The mod still works off Steam and is compatible with the last Civ V patch. However, I am no longer able to maintain external downloads for my Civ V mods (many of which are over 10 years old). If you are having issues with Steam, you might be able to manually download using a third party website like steamworkshop download, etc.

So is this mod dead? cause i cant download it with steam and the external sites arent working

Truewan- thank you for your comment. i am a white dude that sometimes struggles with prejudice.

I live in South Dakota. I was unaware that native american was offensive to your people.I always thought "indian" was more offensive. so do most native peoples prefer "Native Indians"
then?
Truewan 14. maj 2021 kl. 13:04
I am Lakota Sioux

First, getting the words wrong such as Sioux isn't that big of a deal, a lot of work went into this mod and I appreciate being able to play as my ancestors (being a direct descendant of the Minicoju tribe which was Part of the Lakota resistance). I also grew up on a reservation in South Dakota.

That said, please stop calling us "Native American" and refer to us as American indians. This is the term you will hear on my reservation because it's part of our treaties, history, and legal laws in agreements we've made with the United States of America. Every elder, lawyer, and most kids use Indian. I can't tell you how frustrating these comments can be seeing people speaking on our behalf.

History is complicated, but it's 2021 and you can listen to the Lakota people now because of the internet. @Lakotaguy on tiktok for the kiddos.

@Reesey124
The mod was meant to encompass all the Sioux people which includes the Dakota people (more specifically the Santee, Yankton, and Yanktonai peoples) as well as the Lakota peoples.
Reesey124 23. nov. 2019 kl. 17:23
I know its old, but you should've named them Dakota

Lol: 'We're outta here!' OK, thanks -- that makes sense now.
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 29. sep. 2017 kl. 7:49
@Cinn

it refers to the improvement tile. Normally, capturing a city has no effect on the surrounding tile besides change of ownership (all the improvements, even unique ones, stay on the tiles). Tipi improvements, however, will be removed leaving an empty tile unless you pillaged them before capturing the city (at which point you can repair the pillaged ones to use for your cities).

In an earlier build, the removed tipis were converted to a population bonus for the Sioux, but I later removed this bonus for balance reasons. Thematically, though, I still liked the capture effect so kept it. Basically, all the Sioux living in those Tipis get up and move away when the city changes ownerhip.
Cinn 29. sep. 2017 kl. 0:58
Sory if I"m being dense here, but can someone explain what 'Cannot be captured unless pillaged' means please? Does this mean the nearby city can't be captured unless the tipis are pillaged first? Or that even if the city is captured the tipi spaces will remain in the possession of the Sioux? Or something else?

@Sven

If you read the mod description above, you'ld see he said in the Note section:

"- I am aware that “Sioux” is pronounced wrong in the intro. I didn't forward a pronunciation guide when getting it recorded. It is simply not feasible to fix at the moment in what is otherwise an excellent recording by Charlatan Alley."
Sven 12. juli 2017 kl. 7:54
This is a very banal complaint, but the intro reading pronounced Sioux wrong. It's pronounced like Sue.

@The Snake Tornado

I can't repeat the error on my end with the mod by itself. That specific problem is caused when a custom civ doesn't have two uniques (either from an error in the mod or a compatibility issue in another mod which prevents them from loading). However, the only change in this update was 3 lines of SQL to reference one of JFD's mods.

The new version would likely have changed the load order of your mods, as newer releases load last unless set otherwise, which could be why the conflict is only showing up for you now with the newer version. A lot of other mods use the tipi and bison assets. If you are using them, it’s possible one of them is the problem and interfering with your mod list.

Otherwise, the download link for the previous version (31) is still active and available at the bottom of the description. I would suggest just continuing to use that version if it works for you.
Norton 24. jan. 2017 kl. 22:25
@The Snake Tornado you may need to extract it with 7zip
Majestic Steerve 24. jan. 2017 kl. 22:07
Seems to be preventing me from srolling down on the leader list when starting a new game. Maybe a conflict with something else? It worked before today's update.

The Steam workshop is sometimes buggy when downloading stuff, but it's not an issue with the mod. If Steam continues to not work, the best bet would be to unsubscribe from the mod, delete any traces of the mod folders that might still be leftover, then manually download and install the mod from the direct download link at the bottom of the description. Place that file in your mods folder (~/documents/my games/civ v/mods) and it should install automatically next time you go to the mods menu in game.
C4Mgamer 30. juli 2016 kl. 12:09
I can get it to work either, in the mods folder the game duplicates the mod folder but with nothing inside, i dont know why its doing this and i am very confused, help!

Fair enough, and it is an EXCELENT mod. But it is no way an excellent recording. There are three Native American tibes mentioned, and he mispronounces two of them. (It's Chi-of-wa not key-OH-wa). It's just bad. I'm not going to go so far as to say it's offensive, but c'mon, that's pretty tone deaf on a couple of levels. Also, his cadence is just weird ("The HILLS of North Dakota"). It's like he's just putting emphasis on random words. It's just bad. Perhaps the choice of not including the recording would have been the better one.

But whatever, I'm still using the mod because I love the Teepee and bufalo mechanics. :)
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 21. juni 2016 kl. 9:59
@brianholmes_4

If you read the description you would see I already commented on the pronunciation error.

I am well aware of how to correctly pronounce Sioux. However, I didn't forward a pronunciation guide to Charlatan Alley, who otherwise did an excellent recording. It's also more trouble than it's worth to organize everything to have it re-recorded and the choice is to either include the recording as it is or not include a recording.
divisible by zero 21. juni 2016 kl. 9:06
The intro voice over bugs me. Sioux is pronounced "Sue" not "Si-Ox". Love the mod, but honestly, how can you put this much effort into it and not know how to pronounce the peoples' name?
Shimms 13. juni 2016 kl. 13:46
looks like you have e&d for them too, which answers my question. Thanks!

@HorsemanOfHades

The Nakota are linguistically distinct (despite sharing common ancestry) from the Sioux, so they are not always included when talking about Siouan groups. The Sioux proper are only the Lakota and Eastern and Western Dakota. Santee and Yankton-Yanktonai are also divisions, not the names of subtribes like Hunkpapa and Oglala. The Santee subtribes analogous to Hunkpapa, etc. are the Mdewakantonwan, Sisseton, Wahpekute, and Wahpetonwan. The Santee and Yankton-Yanktonai also never used Eastern or Western to distinguish themselves, despite being distinct Siouan subgroups. Because of this, it’s completely correct to use the division names alongside Lakota (which also have the advantage of being more readily distinct). Even Wikipedia organizes the three major divisions as Santee, Yankton-Yanktonai, and Lakota while excluding the Nakota.

The Polemarch 22. maj 2016 kl. 3:09
You have Lakota correct, but, if you are going to use dialectical groups (as most do at this point) the others should be called the Dakota and Nakota (all of which mean "ally" in their respective dialect). The Santee, Yankton, and Yanktonai are Dakota subtribes. The Nakota subtribes include the Assiniboine and Stoney. The Lakota subtribes include the Oglala and Hunkpapa. However, to say that using "Sioux" is improper is incorrect. That is how they recognize themselves and that is how they are seen in culture. Many Native tribes are known by the names their enemies called them (Comanche is Ute for "people who want to fight all the time"; Apache comes from lost Spanish origins; even the mentioned Ojibwe comes from their enemies, either because they tortured their enemies or because their language sounded like stammering to other tribal groups). It is proper. In fact, most tribes simply called themselves "The People" in their language and came up with the fancier names for their enemies!

Hey, everyone!

I’ve just updated my Benin (BNW) mod with new art by the amazing Janboruta! Please check it out!
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 8. maj 2016 kl. 9:52
Hey everyone, I’ve released a new civ for Brave New World:

Shang (Brave New World)
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 5. maj 2016 kl. 8:59
That's interesting, thanks. For the mod, though, despite having Sitting Bull as the leader, I didn’t mean for the civ to be specifically a Lakota civ, but instead represent the Lakota, Yankton(ai), and Santee. “Sioux” was the best term I knew to both encapsulate all three cultures and that would be widely recognizable by a general audience.
Terijian 5. maj 2016 kl. 8:50
Note: The term "Sioux" isn't really a tribe name. This false identification of the Lakota came in error when 18th century French fur traders asked the Ojibwe's what kind of people lived to the west. They said "sioux" which in Ojibwe language means "enemy" - not a tribal name. The word "Lakota" actually means ally.

Hey everyone, I’ve released a new civ for Brave New World:

The Kuikuro (BNW)
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 26. apr. 2016 kl. 9:27
Huh, I'm pretty sure I already coded that in. Maybe there's a typo in the code preventing it from triggering or an update with another mod is interfering with it. I'll double check and fix in a update.
Deads 25. apr. 2016 kl. 21:12
I could be wrong, but shouldn't the Strong Hearth upgrade to the Cuirassier when using the Enlightenment Era mod?
Julia970 8. apr. 2016 kl. 17:35
Ah, yes, now it's working. Thanks! Added to my "rotation". (I'm making a list of modded civs to pick from randomly, so I don't have to have everything loaded at once)
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 8. apr. 2016 kl. 6:15
The tipi generates culture after you've researched Chivalry. I'll change the description to better explain this in an update. Thanks.
Julia970 7. apr. 2016 kl. 23:40
Great mod. One thing I noticed though, the description says that my tipis should be generating culture, but they aren't. Am I missing something? Using latest version.
lightbrigade43 22. feb. 2016 kl. 20:09
Thank you for all your works. I really enjoy your American Indian !
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 20. feb. 2016 kl. 17:29
I believe it was "Sundance" and "Hunting the Buffalo" but it's been a while so I don't remember 100%. If you look at the sound files from the mod in a file explorer, it should still say.
Emiline 20. feb. 2016 kl. 16:18
Can you list specific songs you used from the soundtrack or did you use them all?
Tomatekh  [ophavsmand] 24. jan. 2016 kl. 6:45
Are you sure you are loading the mods (clicking next after you check them in the mods menu instead of going back to the main menu)? Otherwise, it could be a bug with the steam workshop. If that's the case you can try manually downloading/installing the mod from the direct download link at the bottom of the description.
Publius Rusticus 20. jan. 2016 kl. 13:13
I'm subscribed and have the Sioux selected in my mods in game, but I can't select them when I try to start a new game. Help!
