I play it with 24 civs (double Germany and France, banned Babylon obv because Hammurabi is broken archetype) so no more idiotic city-state and/or great people snowballing you-have-everything-game. And no more free real estate to settle. Instead you need to focus and fight for land and you will lag behind on deity. And that is exactly what I like. Nice challenge.
You just have to accept this is not a map for fast gaming. If you're looking for fast, enjoyable conquest you just better pick something else;)
Also I agree that there are too many hills in the map in general. If hills and mountains were reduced by about 25% that would make a big difference while having strategic gameplay and being realistic
Ahh so I misunderstood the option in the setup.
I remember in some mods of civ 5 that they had real city naming for many spots and thought it‘s the same.

As for Saladin, he ruled from Cairo, Egypt when he came to power. But when the Third Crusade started, his capital was moved to Damascus, so both Cairo and Dmaascus are ok for Saladin, but I guess some additional script for both of Saladin's personas to be accurate. Vizier would spawn in Cairo, while The Sultan would spawn in Damascus.
I am playing DLC TSL Mediterranean map, i thought Dido should be on Tunia, where famous Carthage city should be in the Punic War time. But Dido spawn near Syria.
The Saladin spawn location near the Alexanria where Egypt next to it aaa. Damasscus should be more reasonable place to them
1. Add Ramses to his location of Thebes, which is modern Luxor.
2. Instead of Medina, give Arabia a location of Damascus, as it was Saladin's capital during Third Crusade
3. With Damascus for Arabia, give a condition to Phoenicia to spawn at Carthage.
4. Eleanor's locations should be primarily Bordeaux, as it was always a capital of Aquitaine. But give a condition to second Eleanor to spawn at Poitiers (aka if someone would want two Eleanors in game)
And a final point, which I won't number, because it's an iffy subject. But for Germany, if Gaul is present, spawn it in Palermo, as it was Holy Roman Empire's capital during Frderick's successor Henry VI's rule.
