Cool, thx!

@A Talking Parrot; Currently, no. It only supports vanilla turrets and VFE - Security. I can add support for Rimlaser but I'm not currently maintaining my mods so no guarantees when it'll be done.

When done, though, it would automatically work if the computers are already built in range of the turrets.

I might take a look later today.

Is this compatible with the laser turrets from Rimlaser mod?

@Pied Piper; CE changes a lot of mechanics, including how accuracy is calculated. It might work, but there would probably be weird funky side effects. Feel free to try it, I just can't promise any attempts to make it compatible if it isn't.

I'm curious what makes it incompatible with CE. It just affects the accuracy, no? Wouldn't it be up to the turret itself to have CE compatibility?

@Fox_Follower; You said the same about the original. Do you enjoy spreading negativity everywhere you go? I'd like to see you make a better mod, with your empty profile and 1 game ban.

@Kosher Pickles; lol a Fabric port will be on the way! I promise ;))))

is there a version for Fabric or is this Forge only

This mod should work with that one, though it might produce turrets that can basically never miss. That mod seems to do two things: flattens the post-process curve for pawn accuracy (so longer ranges aren't as bad) and outright sets turret weapon accuracy values to 100/99/95/90% for Touch/Short/Medium/Long ranges.

Since the weapon accuracy stat is the biggest thing that affects hit chances after pawn skill, turrets will almost never miss their shots with both mods.

I've been using this mod Accuracy+ (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2656014499) which claims to improve accuracy of turrets as well as normal ranged combat. And it does dispense with the long drawn out scenes of missing a whole lot, which aren't any fun to watch. Unless you're a Storm Trooper.

Main reason it's 0.5% instead of a higher value is because higher values are actually a lot more OP especially when used on better turrets. +10% for instance might sound more reasonable, but placed on a Charge Railgun it would have 109% base accuracy, which at 45 tiles range would be a 4832% hit chance. That completely negates all weather/cover/target size factors and makes every shot hit regardless.

@Bugsbony; You do you man, I assume the turrets have all the sensor equipment they need to locate a target but lack the computing power to properly account for wind/bullet drop/Coriolis effect etc. That's where these computers come into play, to give them that little bit of extra power to make a shot more likely to land.

With some turrets, it eliminates error caused by the turret's "skill" completely, for instance with the Charge Railgun, two computers puts its base accuracy to 100%. That doesn't mean every shot will hit, but it does mean each shot won't be less likely to hit due to shooter skill.

Essentially, this mod improves the "skill" of the turret, bumping its equivalent shooting skill up by 1 or 2 levels. You could make a mod buff the accuracy stats of the weapon the turret is using, but you'd have to patch that for every turret weapon individually and it wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Maybe another system, like a research upgrade for improved turret rifling or something, might make sense for that.

@AngleWyrm; Before cover/weapon/target size/weather factors come into play, a 96% chance at max range for a mini-turret is about 30% hit chance (0.96^29), while 97% (two targeting computers) is 41% (0.97^29).

Weapon accuracy can't really be changed, other than using other turrets such as uranium slug turret or some Vanilla Furniture Expanded turrets (which this mod supports) like the Charge Railgun, which has 99% base accuracy.

Weather and target size can't really be changed either. And cover should be removed from your enemy at all times anyway.

Placed along a defensive line, one computer can buff about 7-11 turrets depending on how close it is, and each turret can connect two computers.

I don't personally think that a targeting computer addon makes sense. But I was just thinking what could make sense is external cameras that would help turrets if that camera has a better view of the target than the turret has, such as closer, better angle, or less cover. Of course cameras should be targeted by enemies, or maybe only if they notice it, a bit like traps.

Maybe you could show a hits vs misses chart for a thousand shots with and without it. That would demonstrate value. Because 1/2 of 1% of just one of many factors doesn't sound like it will produce a visible change in hits vs shots fired.
