As a side note, you can create a makeshift fridge by pressurizing a room with the super-cold outdoor air. This will help preserve your mushrooms longer so you can make more early-game steel.

I made about 9 wind turbines before I did any serious production. I then put focus on a hydrolyzer + filtration to produce my needed oxygen. I grew a few mushrooms and put them into the recycler to produce biomass, which when added to arcfurnace produces charcoal to make steel. I then used the rest of my fuel canister + furnace to produce enough steel for a hydroponic station and a stationary battery. Once I had a stationary battery, I added a small transformer to prevent 5kW overload on regular cables during the storms (otherwise I'd need to swap out the cables with heavy cables). Once I got the hydroponic station and stationary batter, the difficulty pretty much goes down hill and becomes easier.
