The modding scene for R2 is so dead though. The only people who could do it are people I already know. And I have asked many times.

You should make a post in Steam asking for someone to take over

If only somebody could take over the modding scene for me, I've long left this game for years now. T-T
Chrissant  [author] Feb 6 @ 2:14am
Hah.. the mod is perhaps out of date.
Jovecore Feb 3 @ 10:01am
I've used it with DEI 1.3.3 and 1.3.4
Chrissant  [author] Jan 31 @ 2:22am
That's really strange . . . mind linking which mod it is?

I use the roman units reskin and when I turn on this mod the textures of the shields, the bodies of the units disappear. It's weird, but it's a fact.

I believe the mod should not need an update. Pls let me know if it does.

the standard defensive formation does not behave the same as the shieldwall ability. It is just the same as the hoplite phalanx with lower range. Defensive formation can at times be better but the issue is due to how the engine works it can actually end up being disadvantageous to use it at all. Shieldwall on the other hand is better against crowded infantry and even cavalry.
Jovecore Sep 6, 2024 @ 10:42am
Bro, update pls!
Invxus™ May 17, 2024 @ 2:06pm
not sure if you're still responding but I've found that the Roman shield wall is just so underwhelming compared to a standard defensive formation

the stats on a shield wall boost armor by like 3 but cut weapon damage in half

in my testing, the same unit in neither formation beats one in a shield wall

I considered doing that long time ago but it would have to be a separate mod, and also a lot more work. It's also something I'd have to update again and again with each DEI update which I'm not willing to do.

Can you consider adding this for the Greek Thorax/Thureo infantry, something so that the Greek factions can really compete with the Romans without exclusively having to use pike units.
Franck Aug 20, 2023 @ 2:03am
Ty for your answer.
Chrissant  [author] Aug 20, 2023 @ 2:01am
Unfortunately I can't make the mod work for vanilla. It depends on something only in DEI
Franck Aug 20, 2023 @ 1:20am
Hi Chrissant. Ty a lot for your mod. I have a question. Your mod need the DEI Pack. Can we make the same mod for the vanilla game ? If yes, what do we need to make it work ?
Chrissant  [author] Apr 29, 2023 @ 1:42am
Note that the units can't throw pila with the shieldwall ability activated. Nothing can be done about that.
Olek Apr 9, 2023 @ 10:18pm
Tested this as a possibility to add to our existing head to head campaign, and no matter what I did I couldn't get the Units to throw their Pila.
Chrissant  [author] Aug 6, 2022 @ 5:03am
So yes the ability itself is not a separate custom ability, but DEI's shieldwall. What I modified was the animation set used for the legions. DEI Shieldwall is mostly used by barbarian units that has the back row holding spears and the front row holding swords. I played around with animation sets a bit to make the back row also hold swords and put their shields up, whilst retaining the ability to throw pila. By all means you can do whatever you want with my mod.

First and foremost, thank you for your awesome mod! Just a question if you don't mind, I am looking through your tables and that of DEI and notice that (I believe) that you "gave" the DEI shield-wall ability to the legions correct? So, your mod doesn't create a "separate" formation? Reason I ask is that I want to create a "Roman Shield-wall" ability and was hoping to tweak your mod for my own (not to be published) needs. Thanks for the help/clarification and again, for your modding efforts!

Thank you very much!

If you have more questions simply go to the DEI discord server where a bunch of nerds will gladly help you out.

If you really want faster battles I have a better solution, simply make a PFM mod yourself. Simply edit the base DEI unit hitpoints, lower them all to your liking, this way without having to make sure a dozen different weapon damage stats are balanced, you still have faster battles. You can also increase base hit change via kv_rules. That will make battles faster without you having to change anything. You won't even need the faster battles submod.
Chrissant  [author] Jun 2, 2022 @ 4:51am
2x faster battle submod edits weapon damage and is not going to be compatible with any submod which edits weapon damage including this mod. Romans extravaganza require a functionality patch with DEI to function. There is an updated one available. You can modify the weapon damage of this mod and any other mod to fit the increase in faster battles submod, or simply put the faster battles submod above everything else so it has the final say on weapon damage. Note that for Roman shieldwall to work, gladius1~4 must have at least 2.5 to 3 weapon length. Otherwise the shieldwall doesn't function.

I have 2 questions. First, using this mod makes my romans invisible which I think is because of the mod "Romans Extravaganza", are they not compatible? I placed your mod above everything. I'm using 2x faster battle submod and I think Romans weapon damage is very low in this mod, is it possible to modify the stats in Pack File Manager? If yes, do I have to modify your mod or base DEI? Thanks.

Thought it did, cheers mate love the mods
Chrissant  [author] Jan 14, 2022 @ 7:45pm
Yes. They can still throw the pilum though.
CENTURION Jan 14, 2022 @ 9:04am
Does this mod remove the Pilum when the soldiers are marching?
