Game much likely crashes because it fails to unzip the graphics assets (100mb).
Go to "...\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS" and unzip civ5mod files manually (software example: 7zip).
If the files are not there or are corrupted, you will have to download mod (through steamworkshopdownloader or dropbox links on civfanatics) and then unzip them in MODS folder.
Unsubscribing and deleting unzipped files should also fix an issue - no need to reinstall.
