Is it possible to add ice as a strtegic resource that become obsolete in the industrial age. Ice was worth a fortune in the desert back in the day

This has been great - thanks!

Very, very useful mod! Thank you!

I would recommend instead creating a naval unit(icebreaker) that can break one ice hex per turn(turning it to whatever was underneath) This way you could go after the unique resource(oil, etc) without changing the balance of the game too much.

@micaiahdragon: Not entirely true, if he made it so icetiles would cost an extra move or two, it could represent dragging the boat over the ice with rope and logs. The boat would roll on the logs and have ropes tied to it to be dragged obviousl. This have happened in history many times, maybe not on ice but definitely on land. The reason we don't do it on ice nowadays; we have icebreakers.

Make it an ability unlocked in later eras and also alow for the workboats to remove ice (but be removed as always when they make an improvement). Representing the fact that the work boat is an icebreaker designated to keeping that tile open.

Not very historically accurate, but still useful.

Maybe add that if you end your turn on the ice the workboat dies or loses health?

@brig: As stated in the description. it works for ALL versions, including expansion packs.

for BNW please.

Great idea. One of the many things I found annoying was that work boats could not traverse ice. Why couldn't the workers just drag the bloody things across the ice to the other side?
Thanks for your work.

I am going to use your mod. No worries, I just have a tendency so far to be iceblocked from a chunk of the world by one poorly placed chunck of sea ice. Sometimes this can be managed by building an expensive unfortunate city on a forlorn land-ice hex. A Northwest Passage route made by devoting Worker Boats to it would be a good work around...or a Global Warming mod.

@Minnik: I only added it to the workboat because I want access to those resources. I don't think all the ships should have it, though. One thing that makes the sub unique is that it can travel through ice.

@hecateus: I don't understand what you are talking about.

What I did was add the submarine's "Can Move Impassable" promotion to the workboat, so it teats ice just like the sub does.

Almost what I am looking for. Wanted a workboat which can move onto sea-ice, simply being there allows other ships to cross, including Sea Routes of merchant ships. Possibly using up the boat in the process, which then eliminates the maintenance cost I guess.

Why not add this to all boats? Or maybe in another mod make it so it takes a bunch of movement points to go through ice for other boats or as a promotion to move through ice. Just a suggestion
