there is a snorkel, but to go deeper it relies on stored momentum and steam pressure from the boilers. It will only work for a few minutes before you run out of steam (literally)

any depth, but if you aren't neutrally buoyant you wont get back up

haha I felt that if would be a bit difficult to manage an entire submarine and perform torpedo calcs, this was a happy medium, you still have to point at the target!
