I love the ship and have added most of the CV parts. My only concern is the Oxygen is somehow leaking from the main bay and I cannot seem to find where it's leaking from. The smaller areas like the bridge and plots areas hold Oxygen .. but not the Cargo bay.
Any ideas on how to find the leak?

Hanger door sensor is a very very easy fix, took me like 25 secs to fix

@JRandall - Love the concept! Looking forward to playing with her! Thanks for your work. The modular build of the Helios was a game-changer for the way I play and build.

@Jᴧgᴧ - Great ideas! I've been doodling modules for my new Kurma Carrier system for RE (still matches the Helios' sizes). I've done a few for the mini spot and I've just started working a little with the D2 dropship size. I'll see what I can come up with.

Great work man! The only one really useful CV i found here for a decade of playn. Cheap, functional, compatible, upgradable, usable at low lvl and well designed. Real treasure

Fully upgraded this becomes a really good scout/miner. With lots of lift you can just hoard ore until later, to feed to furnaces. Love this ship. It might be a flying brick, but it is a solid investment from day one.

Would be really nice to see a version like this (Base->CV->Module) that utilized the space from the dropship bay for even further game expansion down the line.

*correction* My previous post is wrong, I hadn't powered up the base, soon as I powered it up all the LCD's came on. The ship is perfect.

New to EGS just started playing RE and decided to try this CV. I'm in early game just spawned it and it came w/o any LCD's, thought I should mention it. I watched the video so I understand where everything goes. Love all your ships jrandall, thank you.

Loving this CV. It's been fun building it up. Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but there is no ventilator in the flight deck. Just a minor thing but thought I'd mention it. Thx for your great work!

I assembled a landing gantry for the Janus-ASV Module that may be placed on light to moderate uneven terrain or over water. Built using Reforged Eden, but should work in Vanilla, too.

Love the Base/Ship and greatly appreciate your other contributions, too!

Absolutely love this ship. We use Janus for everything until heavy ship/drone combat. We still take out pirates, bandits and the two lower Zirax ships. I said the name so many times the wife was ready for divorce until she finally spawned in one of her own... Thank you for all the wonderful ships you create for the community.

@Valkerie It's a CV so solar panels add just a bit. 50Watt smalls and 100Watt large panels. You just can not run it without fuel.

love the base but damn does it take juice.. tried to ease that with the portable solar panels for CV's but doesn't seem to add the power generation as the description on the portable panels. did switch everything off not required, anyone have an idea of why the solar is not working?

My Goodness Jrandell, this CV is my dream come true. I hate having ground-trapped bases, so being able make this ground base, into a Mobile base through my own sweat and tears is AWESOME!!! This will be in every game I ever play from now on until you top your own Masterpiece here Sir! Thank You So Much for being SUPER AWESOME!!!

So far with some tweaking of blocks to make room for the new shield chargers and all, its been working as good as ever. This may be the most useful workhorse I have ever had lol.

@jrandall: Vermillion changed RE to have drones spawn in whenever a CV is brought into the game to add more of a challenge for those that spawn in a CV base to avoid drone attacks. I think that it only happens on initial spawn in and won’t continue after that. I would guess a single gatling turret on this would be enough to hold off that attack…assuming you can make some ammo right away.

200 game hours later at the drone farming stage of RE, I’ve been looking for a new upgraded CV to fill the multiple roles the Janus has, but it’s been a struggle. Upgraded the ways I’ve done it, this still has the best balance of low power draw with near max solar panels, high lift for planetary exploration, massive storage capacity, great HV/SV carrier space, and compatibility with either drills or fixed mounted weapons.

The biggest drawback even with an advanced shield has been tanking. It’s all but made of paper and a lot of the storage is rat-holed around the hull’s perimeter. That’s just mutually exclusive with the good points listed earlier.

I’m happy to publish my near fully upgraded explorer/miner/FOB variant if anybody is interested.

I didnt know that drones spawn too lol. I started on Rogue 2 and its empty aside from me. Thats a thing in RFE?

I'll spawn in my modded version take a tester to the 4G plasma planet I got sitting nearby :O The thing is figuratively, compared to most early/mid game CVs, lighter than a feather with just ammo/fuel/oxy loaded. I have used it on 2G worlds almost fully loaded and aside from a little extra heft, it worked very well using upwards thrust. I also tacked on 2 extra Adv thrusters on the back and I still got loads of CPU left.

I feel it will do it. But, gotta test it out, right?

I thought about breaking it down for mats when I made a cruiser-class sized CV, but its just too useful for little side trips and space mining.

Thank you very much Adjoint [PAX] and Spaghettioz! @Adjoint [PAX], when I built this, I wasn't aware that drones would attack CV's on planet. When I spawned this in game (RE), maybe I was lucky but did not have them attack it and got a couple turrets on it. But good idea spawning it near some protection. @Spaghettioz, I believe it can handle above 1G fully loaded if the 4 large lift thrusters were added. I have not tested in 3-5G thou. Do to the ship being fairly light weight and small with 4 large lift thrusters, I think it could do 4G but again I have not tested it. If basically has 1 large lfit thruster per 320K storage and of course the weight of anything docked. I am curious myself. lol. Thanks again all!

Had my Janus for a few months now. Its been THE most useful mid-size utility/mining CV I have ever had.

Anyone manage to see if this thing can still survive high Gs as its so freaking light?

Too bad that drones spawn once you deploy the CV. If you have the CV without weapons (as it is stock) , it will be an issue to defend it. I hope it helps a bit to spawn it beside your turret defended base ...

This is an amazing ship. I love it so much. Like others have mentioned, I upgraded the front windows to sloped armored glass to fix the sun reflection problem. Also, for other newbies - one of the right-click options on your multitool ("change & rotate") lets you remove the tinting on glass windows so that you can see out better.

I gotten to really love the Janus thanks a lot for the excellent design.

I've upgraded it a bit and had the problem of the bridge windows reflecting what was behind the ship. Such that I saw two horizons at once while flying. By replacing the bridge windows with sloped armored glass that improved the view and removed the reflection.

For me, I would sometimes park the Janus facing a POI and would walk out of loot-and-dump range. Similar in space, except salvage will be down all six axes with Wreckage POIs, for example.

Thank you plc.reboot and AlphaStrik3! Interesting in the wifi. I had wifi on the helios out in the mdoule bay areas, I thought that would provide good coverage for any docked module. I guess maybe my thinking is wrong on that. Thanks again, good info!

This is the first ship to make me think twice about just building another Wayfarer and getting on with things.
This is a really good concept. It's surprisingly manoeuvrable when kitted out.
One small point - when attached to a Helios dock you are a long way from the WiFi, so I added another one in the nose.

Thank you Lohke, Invictus_66, Druckwelle, and Jupiter Vessel Corp! @Lohke, I would have liked to have solar as well, but no being an option in vanilla combined with trying to fit that in somehow when space was really tight already made me skip trying to do that. @Invictus_66, I only released this version stripped of all the CV related parts as I didn't want to versions of the same ship on the workshop. @Druckwelle, much of the cores slots are for Reforged Eden. In RE you can add a basic core, 2 improved cores, and 5 advanced cores all at once for more CPU. Vanilla is different so I tried to make it work with both. And thanks again everyone!

I like the idea behind this ship. To be able to upgrade it step by step. Sad is that it has no solar. Would be nice especially in the beginning. As a user of Jeffs creations and a new RE player i was (as always) happy with the update instructions and markings inside the ship, BUT i was also very confused about BASIC, IMPROVED and ADVANCED core. Searched these cores in creative menu for a while. Then, after more searching, i figured out that i had to look for CPU extender. Was very confusing for me. Now i know it and it is fine. Will use this ship in my current game.

Quick update: I changed the solar panels and removed the capacitors for the planetary cargo module, this eliminated the red text flag and allowed the module to be put into the factory. According to the 1.5 patch notes for RE, capacitors are not needed for the CVs. So I'm hopeful this will resolve a lot of the issues with the red flag blocks.

I took a quick look and it seems that there are several of the Helios modules, for RE, that are showing red. It looks like there was a division of the solar panels as the ones currently on the modules are now listed as "Base" and there is a different set listed for the CV. The other problem is there is no solar capacitor listed for CV. Those installed on the modules now list "Base" and are likely what continues to give the illegal block error, even when using CV solar panels. Not sure if this is the only item in question but it was the one I found.

It is very basic with parts used, so I can't think of anything that would cause it off the top of head. However comments on lots of my other creations are saying there are problems now too. I believe changes in the game version (RE or vanilla) or a bug is causing this. Well, I will have to research it. Thanks again all!

I love this ship. I use it as my mining and hauling ship. I have it upgraded as shown in the video but I put in mini gun turrets. I still have about 200k cpu left and I was wondering what turrets I should upgrade to from mini guns. I know this isn't really meant to be a combat ship but the more ship types it can kill, the better, right? What do you recommend, Sir?
