I'm sorry but indeed I do not have time/energy to put any more work into this mod :(. I am not sure why it worked at first and then not. But feel free to use the files from this mod and upload your own!

An other workaround I have tried was to add the "slave" faction simply to the britons, gaul, ... warband units ins the export_unit_descr file.
That allowed me to recruit the faction specific units in the military buildings.This is not ideal and the unit icons were broken and only showed peasants icons.

Sorry for the huge spam. I just wanted to wrote down all the stuff I did in case you are interested.

Okay, I have tried using that_backup files of yours and fixed the errors.
However that did not help either.
I am pretty much done with what I know.

I'd be very glad, if you left a short comment on if you will ever try to fix that or not.
If not, I might want to join some TW modding discord some day (not in the near future probably) and ask for help.

Rebels always were super cool to play and I'd like to expand their roster a bit.

From 2.0.3 -> 2.0.4 I did not see like the export_descr_unit and export_descr_building had a breaking change except that one which you have fixed in your files

Rome Remaster has a BETA channel which seems to downgrade to 2.0.3 retail version.
If I use that and apply the changes of your "*backup.txt" files, will that bring back the units?

Which Rome version was the last one which was compatible with your mod?

Hmmm, I had a quick look at your changes via Git diff.
It does not seem like there are some super huge changes.
One would have to check what has changed in the backend of Rome.

I would be very pleased, if you could take the time and one last time fix this mod.I don't know if I will have the time in the near future to invest into this and debug it.
Rome seems to be quite stable now and you have more experience in that regard than I have.
So if you could one last time have a look at this mod and fix it, I would be pleased quite a bit :)

Any chance you will ever try to get back the barbarian units?
I really love playing as rebels, original game and Barbarian Invasion.

If you don't have time for this any more, I could do a global diff between original files and your files and see if something needs to change.

Is there a way to download the old files, which did unlock the units, but were crashing? That way I might be able to debug this better.

Hey everyone, sorry for the long wait... I guess I fixed the crash on startup... and custom battles are hopefully working too! but on campaign, it's now not possible to recruit barbarian units anymore it seems. I guess feral changed some base file I am unaware off, have to look into it...

I've had the same issues with crashing as the others have here, however I deleted the EDB lines in the mod folder on diplomats so no one could recruit any and the problem still persists. I'm not sure what's specifically causing it, but in my case at least it's always to do with reloading a saved file.
I initially tried just running through a new campaign by just spamming the end turn button and it worked fine up until turn 30 when I got bored and started a new campaign proper.
In my actual campaign, I saved and the end of every turn, and it crashed at what would've been the start of turn 6. However, turn 5 was the only end turn where I reloaded for a battle.
I also couldn't reload any of my earlier turn 1-4 saves in this campaign either without them CTD at the start of the next turn.
Not sure how that's any help but I guess if you can keep the game running in the background without reloading it'll be fine?

Played on Hard for map, Medium for battle. Only other active mod was the classic main menu sequence.
Always crashed at the end of a turn. No visible consistency of enemy faction movements between each game which could have caused a crash.

Hate to add to the pile but I'm experiencing the same thing as Falstolf. For some reason, going back a turn and doing things differently has staved off the crash for a turn but it always comes.

I don't know what is making it to crash. I don't think that languages are the problem. Crash happens at the end of AI turn. Sometimes it takes 5 turns...sometime 30 but I always get CTD. I have been playing your other rebels mod for barbarian invasion and it works perfecly. Thanks for trying to fix this one. I am looking forward to play the original campaign XD

I found one error in the classic trade/merchant file that will be fixed, as for the CTD's... I really can't grasp what is going wrong to be honest. No matter what I try or how many turns I play... I won't encounter any CTD's unless I build a diplomat... I just hope that the small fix I made will stop these CTDs from happening somehow...

I think languages shouldn't be an issue either, the only language related thing I changed was the campaign description for the rebel faction (which is not a necessity).

Gousman, let me just say THANK YOU for this mod. It has made my RTW experience 100 times better, and honestly as I don't have the time or knowledge to do the modding myself, I am indebted to the person who put in the hard work. Hello, after doing a bit of testing with default settings I have found that my CTD seem to be related to recruitment of units and the construction of buildings. as soon as the AI finish their turns and new units and building are made it crashes. Hope this helps

As for the diplomats: i cant remove them from the rebel faction, as the diplomats you recruit are actually "owned" by all the other factions! (You will notice in recruitment that each diplomat has the color of a different faction). So removing them will remove diplomats from the game entirely. This is just how the rebels are hardcoded, I will look into it one more time, maybe disable them in some other way, but after that just leave it be to be honest. Maybe I can change their discription to let players know they can't recruit them. Since rebel diplomats have no diplomatic options (you can't propose things to the AI), it doesn't make sense to have them around anyways.

But Black Ice you are implying that other factions can't create diplomats as well?

For the capture CTD: for now I can only advice to play on remastered only, since personally I haven't encountered CTDs there. I will check on the other settings when I have more time, but the toggle options are not always clearly defined within the scripts. I thought I fixed the merchant classic option, but perhaps there are other files involved I am not aware of. Same goes for the other options.

Pretty much the same as Lawfulpotato, only thing I can think of that might have tripped something is previously before this mod I tried to mess with the descr_strat.txt file in the campaign file to allow myself to play as rebel but with out this mod it crashes as you hit end turn. I'll try to return it to normal and try again.

Scratch that, The CTD occurs when a settlement gets captured while a tier 1 governor's building is in progress.

Oh haha yeah, I should probably tell you, this is known in old rome: rebel diplomats can not do anything. Unfortunately the way they work... I can not disable them for just the rebels (without taking them away from all other factions)...
