De-roof mining

Hmm, that is weird. I've never encountered any issues while using this mod for over 100 hours at this point. If you want, send me the savefile and I'll take a look at whether the mod's failing for some reason or was it all just mined out.

I went back to an old save, before I added the other mod, and did some testing by having the pawns dig through a large section of rock. And it did not always work, there were some roof collapse events, most small but on a second try with the same save, there was a large fatal one. It's possible some of it had been mined out before, before I started using this mod.

No natural caves on the map.
AllMeaningless  [author] Aug 29 @ 7:47am
Hmmm... The only thing I can think of is if it was a cave. Cause the de-roof mine is an action that only works on a mineable tile, so if there was just a cave with a roof, it won't apply to the already mined-out parts of the cave, since it's a mining job that also removes the roof.

Either something in 1.65 fixed the removal issue, or it might have been an interaction issue with another mod that has since been updated, but removing it does work now. It was a while ago that I'd tried removing it and it didn't work.

As far as the deroof mining actually working or not, at the time I'd tried with the option turned on and off and there was no difference. Haven't tested it recently since the mod I switched to replaces thick roofs on a map with removable thin roofs. Until that mod, I literally had a bit of mountain over part of my base, because it didn't get removed when the stone was mined.
AllMeaningless  [author] Aug 28 @ 8:19pm
I just rechecked both of those things and they seem to be fine? Are you sure you enabled the removing thick roofs settings in mod settings? I believe it is off by default and when it's off the colonists will only remove "normal" roofs.
As for the game interface, I cannot seem to be able to reproduce that behaviour. I removed the mod and loaded my main save and the interface loaded fine. To test further I also made a separate save where I left a bunch of de-roof mine jobs scheduled on the map, then removed the mod and loaded the save, but everything was fine too. Must be a mod conflict of some sort.

Couple little notes. The option to remove thick roofs aka mountains did not seem to work, at least in 1.6. (I ended up getting another mod for that.) And this mod does not seem to be safe to remove from a saved game, trying to remove it causes the game interface to not show up at all.
AllMeaningless  [author] Jul 12 @ 6:02am
That's a Steam Workshop bug iirc. Sometimes it just refuses to actually update the mod unless you unsubscribe and resubscribe.
What-ever Jul 12 @ 4:02am
Nevermind sorry I take my comment back, I just unsubbed, resubbed and restarted the game and now it works, even though 5mins this did not work. Anyway thank you very much for updating it!

This mod is not working for me sadly. When I put the order for de-roof mining, pawns go the spot but are just standing there, no mining happening. Reinstalled the mod, checked for the box in the options - nothing.
Mr. Bildo Jul 11 @ 7:34am
Thank you! This is a must-have mod.
AllMeaningless  [author] Jul 11 @ 7:31am
Just updated for 1.6 support. Should work fine I hope (fingers crossed).
What-ever Jul 11 @ 7:21am
Does this work with 1.6?
PapaJuicy Apr 28 @ 12:03pm
yes its working now after a restart....weird
AllMeaningless  [author] Apr 27 @ 11:31am
Works for me. Have you enabled removing overhead mountains in the Mod Settings?
PapaJuicy Apr 27 @ 11:12am
does this mod still work? my miners have been getting crushed everytime they mine
AllMeaningless  [author] Sep 11, 2024 @ 1:02am
Oh that is what you meant. Yeah that is by design. If I get some spare time I might look into checking if that can be omitted, but it shouldn't impact their timing that much, de-roofing takes less than a second.
Yoann Sep 10, 2024 @ 4:56pm
Just to be clear, I didn't touch the toggle, I kept it off as per default. The pawn can't remove the overhead mountain, but he does the action as if he could (so he looses time).
I will check with empty modlist tomorrow to see
AllMeaningless  [author] Sep 10, 2024 @ 4:36pm
Just retested it and the toggle to remove overhead mountain works properly for me.
Yoann Sep 10, 2024 @ 1:20pm
Love the idea!
The minor attempts to remove the overhead mountain even with the option turned off, could you fix it please?
Also, adding a gizmo on rocks would be appreciate, 'De-roof Mine' and 'De-roof Mine vein'.
AllMeaningless  [author] May 24, 2024 @ 4:17pm
It does work with the Tunneler if you put the de-roof mining order instead of the normal mining order, yeah.
Cruel Moose May 17, 2024 @ 2:12am
does this work with mechanoids like the tunneler?
Fawx May 16, 2024 @ 5:33pm
I forgot I had to enable the ability to remove overhead mountains in the mod options. My bad! Working perfectly!
Fawx May 16, 2024 @ 4:56pm
Not working for me on 1.5 for some reason. Been using it for ages with 1.4. Still getting cave-ins with it.
D9sinc Apr 17, 2024 @ 8:48pm
Hell yeah, I'm glad to see this release on 1.5, I love this mod.
Genghis Dhang Apr 17, 2024 @ 7:10pm
Thank you! I was using it anyway, and I don't think there were any issues, but still thanks!
AllMeaningless  [author] Apr 17, 2024 @ 6:41pm
Updated to 1.5, should be working fine now.
Genghis Dhang Apr 16, 2024 @ 2:59pm
Has anyone tested this 1.5 without any other mods?
JACK Apr 12, 2024 @ 9:45am
update to 1.5 please? :)
BlazingImp77151 Nov 25, 2022 @ 5:02am
shame. means that you cant mine out caves. oh well.
AllMeaningless  [author] Nov 24, 2022 @ 11:55am
Pretty sure that wouldn't work since you can only mine things that game defines as "mineable", so basically only raw stone types, silver, gold etc. You'd need to either spawn a stone under it with the dev tools (that already allow you to just delete a roof anyway so might as well do that) or build a raw stone block underneath with a different mod that allows that. This mod I only intended to work as an extra to mining, not a separate roof-deletion tool.
BlazingImp77151 Nov 24, 2022 @ 9:53am
so to remove thick stone roofs (with that config on), that don't have anything under them would I need to place a wall or smthn there?
TwotoolusFLY_LSh.st Oct 24, 2022 @ 1:43am
ah, i understand how to use this mod.

i keep try order to mining(vanila). so keep left roof.
i found de-roof mine button. and good work =D

people think this mod work to auto. they not click button to de-roof mine button.
so some people say not work this mod XD

anyway, thank you update 1.4 :hardhat::highlvl:
AllMeaningless  [author] Aug 10, 2022 @ 1:27pm
Yes that is correct. As I said it will not remove roofs that are standalone, only roofs over blocks that are being mined.
GrynnReaper Aug 10, 2022 @ 4:37am
works for a bit then roof collapse, would i be correct in assuming that even though connected, roofs not supported by a mineable tile do not get mined?
GrynnReaper Aug 2, 2022 @ 7:14am
a setting you say...
AllMeaningless  [author] Aug 2, 2022 @ 4:30am
I tested on a fresh save and one of my older saves, seems to be working just fine. Are you sure you used the mod properly? As mentioned before in the comments, it doesn't work as just a 'remove roof' job, it works as a normal mining job would, except the roof above the block that is about to be mined gets removed first. Also if it was an overhead mountain roof, make sure you got the option to remove those toggled in the mod settings.
GrynnReaper Aug 2, 2022 @ 1:48am
Well this doesn't work, roof collapsed killing miner
danzloblaha13 Apr 10, 2022 @ 7:23am
OMG would this not solve so much annoying infestations ?!!??
Player 1 Jan 29, 2022 @ 7:34pm
Testet on a "Fresh" Mountain... works good  THX
Player 1 Jan 29, 2022 @ 12:37pm
Oooo...OK. :steamsad:
AllMeaningless  [author] Jan 29, 2022 @ 12:17pm
No no no, so basically: The mod adds a MINING job that will also remove the roof, so that means that if there is nothing to mine underneath, the roof will not be removed. So if you have had some places that you have already mined before installing the mod, or ones that just had the overhead mountain roof with nothing to mine beneath it, the mod will not let you remove that roof, for that I'm afraid you'll have to use something else, a different mod or the dev tools. I made this mod specifically for mining out mountains for personal use, just decided to upload it cause people might need it.
Player 1 Jan 29, 2022 @ 12:04pm
You mean i have to Place again walls into the Hills to deconstruct the Overhead??? In my case i still have 3-4 "Natural" blocks left that hold the overhead... Thin layers they been able to "deconstruct" as far i have seen... But at some Places i get a "Cave Ceiling" message... OK i will try building Walls below it :steamfacepalm:
AllMeaningless  [author] Jan 29, 2022 @ 11:52am
So you are using the De-Roof mine action on a mineable block, but the overhead mountain does not get removed yes? Because if you use it on just a roof that does not have anything underneath it, it will not work, there has to be a minable block below.
Player 1 Jan 29, 2022 @ 11:51am
Base with ALL DLC... and i have NO special MOD for roof types (except your) I have following - Harmony, Humanoid Alien Races, More Monster Girls (+Enhanced Patch), Monstergirl Races, Faster Biosculper Pod, Advanced Moister Pump, Diet-Complicant Survival Meals, Targetin Modes, Wall Light, Nanotech Overpower... So NO other MOD that has spezial to do with Roof types etc... and by the Time i allready have Tested - There still the "Overhead Mountain" there for sure - I send a Miner there for Testing... He's dead... So the Shadow's is "real" :steamsad: Maybe i have to Start a new "Game" that your MOD is working. I dont know.
AllMeaningless  [author] Jan 29, 2022 @ 8:13am
Do you have any other mods that impact caves and/or roofs in any way? Could be a mod conflict. Also which version are you running, base or with DLCs?
Player 1 Jan 29, 2022 @ 8:09am
(German Version) Dont know but i get a message "Cave Celling can't be Removed" :steamsad: They remove some parts... but i still can see the Shadow of the Overhead Mountain. I wait a few Days now to see if something Changes. But i dont think so... ADD - Yes, i switched the "Option"
AllMeaningless  [author] Jan 28, 2022 @ 12:24am
Like all settings, Escape->Options->Mod Settings, there you should have a list of all your mods that have configurable options. Choose De-Roof mining from the list and just tick the option on.
azira_ladysilver85 Jan 27, 2022 @ 10:00pm
Where exactly is the ' option to remove mountains ticked in the mod settings' - in mods? Because my colonist are still getting killed and I've looked everywhere for this option to no avail.
AllMeaningless  [author] Dec 29, 2021 @ 12:00pm
If it doesn't work please make sure you have the option to remove mountains ticked on in the mod settings. Also the order won't remove already existing roofs that do not have a mineable block below them. For anyone having issues please at least give the context and doublecheck the settings. I cannot help anyone who just says it doesn't work with no further information.
Deepcuts Dec 27, 2021 @ 7:30pm
Nor working for me. Even after issuing the new mining order, cave-ins kill my pawns.
