FINALLY got to the end of this map after two years (the farthest I ever got before I had to wrap up was near the end of level 2)

it was surreal to say the least, but also a very interesting mod. I spent at least a half hour stacking props to get over the wall at the end, and even longer on the cliff-climb (take it slow - HL:A ladders don't like you going fast)

I hope you're still working on this mod, or at least planning on it! enjoyed it

I know it.
For me, there is no such thing as 5 stars or 100% on anything.
I'm much more pragmatic than that. People are like, "THAT WAS GREAT! LOVED IT! 100%"
I could not stand to be in the same room with such people. They are just loud liars, or simply have no way to control their emotions. Nobody is that manic!

Likewise with reviews of any type, movies anything. There is no such thing as a perfect anything. And with reasoning that in mind, a lot of things are going to be average (50%, 2 1/2 stars).

The waterfalls are quite nice. I mean it. Look at Sky Mesa. Yours are a full magnitude better!

 Dinosaurs are not good in any way. The waterfalls are nice. The canyon experience is okay.

I seriously can't tell you how long I've waited for this... Trespasser (before the devs even knew it) was meant for VR. Ground breaking physics, perspective physical body, hand interaction and physics based problem solving. Seriously, thank you so much for this. Trespasser was the absolute number one game of my youth.

Jurassic Park Trespasser is one of the craziest games I've ever played, I was blown away due to how ahead of its time it was (though very clunky and experimental) and I had an incredible time playing through it because of how its ambiance and artstyle make me feel, I can't describe it, the feeling is simply incredible. I usually don't hear anyone talking about Trespasser, and when someone does I get excited to hear the smallest thing. Now imagine my reaction when I saw a mod that lets me play trespasser on VR. Thanks for making this, I hope we can one day play the entire game on VR.

Thanks man, I've taken some time off from the mod but thinking of getting back in to it to make the town level. Glad you enjoyed it in the current state, there is so much work needed to improve it but I'm glad it is 'playable' and out there for people to have a look at.

Beautiful, strange, awkward and lonely -- just like the original game. An absolute blast! I'd love to see more voice lines from the game and the town from level 4, but you're already made something special. Thank you

So I jumped directly into Level 3 and all of the enemies were pinned to the ground and couldn't move. If I walk up to them, they can attack me. I've seen similar behavior with glitched zombies in other maps. Quick playthru video showing the issue: https://youtu.be/Y_zDKrz8vIU

Super excited to see this progress. Trespasser is one of my all time favorite games and was basically a VR physics game 15 years too early.

I think JamesAsner's comment is spot on and reflects some of what I said in my video review. Definitely a nice start and looking forward to seeing how you develop it further, and in what direction you go: https://youtu.be/wD8NyGqgqDo

I agree, I've been tweaking the response of the dinos to damage and making them run faster. I still need to improve their animations which will also help that a bit.
Sammool May 1, 2021 @ 10:38am
i mean like it was, but it was just for one map. anyways, great mod, although i do think the dinosaurs should be faster.

Ape scare dinosaur frozen?

This is cool ape like dinosaur but dinosaur don't move for ape :(

I'm not sure about recreating that level. It would be fun to do it but I'm going to just focus on the core game first. Trying to get that finished alone is a big task.
FrotzFactor Apr 11, 2021 @ 8:58pm
As someone who really enjoyed Trespasser, I think this is an exciting project. Do you have any plans to create the infamous missing level - the geothermal plant that was supposed to go between the town and the labs?

Also, if it's helpful to you, I have a really detailed map of the entire island (with coordinates and elevations) that I downloaded from a fan site way back in the day. Let me know if you're interested and I can send it your way!

I agree with what you're suggesting. My goal for the first couple of months was to see if I could actually make it work in HL:A.
NPC creation doesn't really exist so the raptors are a combination of animated models and invisible prop_physics. They have the Vscript for following the player which sometimes doesn't seem to activate which is frustrating, I think that causes them to die and not animate.

It is my intention to change the enemies to make it more interesting although I will still follow the original game to some extent.

And yes, unfortunately HL:A doesn't have water! I didn't know this when I started the mod :)
Hopefully that might change in future and it can be updated.
JamesAsner Apr 10, 2021 @ 7:41pm
Trespasser is very much a walking simulator with dinos randomly placed in levels and raptors rarely in groups. It needs to be re-imagined with VR friendly puzzles and 'arena' battles that make you look around to avoid danger. The arena near the end of level 2 was a nice touch. Linear levels like level 3 are going to feel so boring in VR. Like an arcade rails shooter.

I would take the basic idea of the original game and build something new. It was a fun game back in 1998 but only diehard JP fans love it today because boy is it flawed. Survival horror with dinosaurs in VR could be amazing and even the low poly raptors are scary when they run at you but a 1 to 1 remake of the base game won't be fun in VR (imo at least).

A few enemy bugs. Raptors stand in place sometimes. They die but don't fall and just keep animating but without collision. Also, does HL:Alyx not have water? To think that Trespasser had water physics with ripples and Source 2 doesn't (yet?).

Awesome work! As an avid modder of both Trespasser and HL2, it warms my heart to see someone else appreciate it in 2021 :)

I love Jurassic Park Trespasser

Hey, thanks for the feedback.
'Feel' is not something I've really gotten to yet as I'm really just mapping out the levels and trying to add in the basic details. The game is supposed to be set on a jungle island. I think to make this I will need more vegetation and more lush textures.
Narrative in the original game is through voice lines and monologues. I would love to have them in this but I'm still unsure if I will or not. I could also tell the story (of what little there is; escape a dinosaur island) through different means in world.
This mod has the potential to be an enormous amount of work so I'm trying to just hit all the basics first and see where it goes from there.
collindrennen Apr 9, 2021 @ 8:22pm
That part of the level with the see-saw was a little tricky for myself. I thought I could place a barrel on the one end to flip up the other, but when I did, the barrel seemed to fly to another part of the level. Ultimately, I think I wound up pushing down on one end, and running like heck to the other to get to the next part of the level.
Good luck as you keep developing the level.
collindrennen Apr 9, 2021 @ 8:22pm
There are a number of workshop offerings that have vast open levels, but at least this one had a different environment from the majority of them. I couldn't tell what type of 'feel' you are going for as far as atmosphere goes: Egyptian, Tropical, or Desert. It was only because of the dinosaurs did I have an idea.
The level was lacking an overall narrative as to why I was there (aside from the crashed helicopter). I'm not looking for a full-length story, but giving a sense of purpose, or a goal, gives me incentive to keep playing (blasting things for the heck of it is fun, but short-lived for myself).
I agree with the other comments that the raptors were slow and blocky, but I believe your future updates are going to show some wonderful improvements.
Stevokenevo  [author] Apr 6, 2021 @ 9:49am
Thanks for making a video, I enjoyed watching it. The enemies do change run animation after taking damage but only after 10 seconds by which time you had killed them :D
I need to lower that time I think.
Willhart Apr 6, 2021 @ 9:36am
I made a video for this here. The enemies felt a little slow, but other than that it was great.

I appreciate the comments and encouragement, definitely going to continue working on it. The aim is to complete it by October. Going to need some help with the modelling and animations as you can probably tell from the demo :D

Thanks, it is still very early in nearly every way, glad you enjoyed the open environments.

While still very basic - it's also something I've wanted to see in VR for a while now. Seeing such vast open levels in HLA is very impressive, can't wait to see what you do with this in the future! :)
