The problem with nepotism is that these bastards don't get better over time (and don't need to)... why would they? That's kind of the whole point of having the system, the challenge of balancing between political favors and talent. But like I said already, if an easier mode mod (this mod is already an easy mode) which works like that fits your playstyle, go for it.
also again i love ur mod
Let me know what kind of ideas you have or post other feedback here. If it's interesting (and I feel like I can accomplish it) maybe I'll drop in or merge a contribution. Certain types of changes in Paradox modding can be pretty frustrating (or flat out impossible) so I usually keep my ambitions below Caesar level... maybe more Claudius level. I don't mind contributions to merge in but first we'd have to figure out if we both even like the proposed additions, and how we'd facilitate sharing changes.
It is a bit of a powerful mod (esp. as Rome which is already strong) but since I tend to handicap myself with house rules sometimes anyway I guess that's fair, right? :P
Compulsory advanced education. Pay 100(?) gold to force a character aged 16-22 (23? 24? 25?) to start a year long scheme which raises a stat from 0 to 3 points. This is done by the player clicking one of 4 buttons on the character's interaction page. Four types of "tutoring", one per stat. Disallow more training after a stat hits 13 or higher. Ineligible if they already have a job.
It's basically done, but it probably needs tweaks (political cost?) or I might decide to enhance more. Ideas..
-Certain traits prevent certain types of (or any) tutoring
-Require a specific tutor to be selected, which limits how high the maximum increase is, kind of like how this mod does disciples. Not sure how hard this'd be to do since there's a character selection involved.
-Maybe scale the gold cost with income so it's not too cheap late-game
-Require head of family to pay? Not sure how hard that'd be.
I was planning to add a few more methods of increasing stats, such as generals having a chance to gain martial on victories, etc., but just haven't had time to mod very much.
I look forward to seeing what you are working on, if you decide to release it on the workshop.
I'll be honest though, I'm working on a similar mod (it works different and might be a bit over-powered, but also around improving stats), so I'll probably be using that one instead. Nice work here though.
Also, is this outdated? The change notes say "removed required buildings". Which buildings this mod looks at is a little unclear to me, unless I'm overlooking something.
Which buildings?
The change I made was simply to make characters eligible for the study or disciple events cancel the content in life ambition if they are currently pursuing it. Without this, only major characters would actually use the schemes. I am not sure what Invictus changes in this file.
The ruler is a little more complicated. I don't have time to give a detailed response now, but when I have some time to mod in the future, I will try to give you a response.
Could you imagine creating a version where office holders (including the Ruler) are allowed to study? I tried to modify your mod for hours, but I failed to make it work with my very limited modding skills...
@Tomice. Thanks for pointing out children becoming disciples. That was unintended. I will add a check to make sure they are adults.
@Killer Turnus, you can't tell them to study, but can assign them as disciples if you are a monarchy.
A few suggestions after trying it in a playthrough and looking through your files:
1) Disallow children to be disciples. It interferes with their normal "growing up" and "becoming a great X" schemes. They lose stat points they could have got from the normal schemes that tick monthly and can't be a disciple twice, making "disciple" a trap choice for under 16 year olds.
2) You might consider increasing the points a child gets from the two basic schemes instead, as they are generally perceived as too low, resulting in a drop of character quality after the first generation:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Imperator/comments/m00vua/childhood_education_explained/
I personally increase the childhood points by a third and double the "becoming a ...." points.
4) The cost (I believe 5/month) is a bit steep, as I rarely see the study in practical gameplay. Few characters can afford it, especially if office holders are excluded.
5) I would also allow the ruler to study. It has a high oppurtunity cost anyway (you can't "influence stakeholders" at the same time, a very important scheme!) and it would help if you're stuck with a bad king for decades in a monarchy.
6) You shouldn't make the forum a prerequisite for better oratory studying, as it is considered a bad choice in the current meta to increase the freeman desired ratio of your capital. I'd suggest the grand theatre instead.
And I hope you can intergrate it to mod.
It can take some time for characters to actually use the schemes. Also, with the newest update, the study schemes require an academy in the capital.
1. if roll < (static limit) -> +1 stat
2. roll = roll / 2
3. if roll < (static limit) -> +1 stat
4. roll = roll / 2
5. if roll < (static limit) -> +1 stat
The issue is that if the first condition passes, then all following will too. Reasonably roll should be *increased* between the rounds in order to be meaningful.
For example, martial could include reading about the conquests of Alexander or training. Finesse could be going to the market and haggling. Charisma could be practising one's oratory skills, etc.
