Thanks! I've been coding from an early age, so I didn't pick up lua in particular anywhere - my best recommendation for learning to mod civ 5 would be decide on the mod you want to make beforehand, then look for examples of code for things you want in existing mods. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot them my way.

I noticed it with any modded civ that added tiles to cities, I tested with this one just to be sure that was the issue https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=752809107&searchtext=fire+emblem
Whenever i would launch the game as this civ with one-tile starts the game just crashes at the load screen

What civ are you talking about? Shoshone doesn't have any issues.

love this but unfortunately it causes crashes with civs that increase the amount of starting tiles a city gets so i won't be using this in my regular modpack

Interesting! I can see this being useful on maps where civs are cramped together!
