There's no way to fully exclude your Pool Units from showing up under recruits.
ZeZo May 31 @ 7:23am
Hi,

What I want to achieve is this:

1- The recruit list should include randomly generated soldiers only.
2- Only my own character pool soldiers should appear in missions or as rewards.

How can I do that?

I tried this mod and started 2 new campaigns, but my character pool soldiers still appear under the 'Recruit' list.
Sinapus Mar 22 @ 10:57am
Okay, I suspected as much. Thank you for the quick answer.
RustyDios  [author] Mar 22 @ 10:10am
It'll be stuck until the next month rolls over
Sinapus Mar 22 @ 8:23am
Quick question: I'm starting a new campaign and noticed I didn't check the configs on this file and found it set to the default of 7. I use 10 for mine. Is there a way to get the recruit pool to fill it to 10 (console command or similar?) right at the start or is it stuck at that setting for awhile (new game, next in-game month, etc.) since I can easily restart the campaign at this stage.
Ironmonk Mar 12 @ 11:12am
is there a console command to rebuild the recruit list?
RustyDios  [author] Jan 27 @ 10:31am
To get back to vanilla you would set the "bBuyingRefills" to false in the XComRustyRecruits.ini
and then add 'values per month' to the correct section of the XComGameData.ini
Brainslayer Jan 27 @ 7:59am
@Geobeetle could you tell me in which config exactly you changed this back to vanilla? this is exactly what I want as well, to turn off this part of the mod, I like more recruits.. ;-)
Stache73 Dec 26, 2024 @ 3:12pm
As the author has stated: This mod is not compatible with "Long War of the Chosen" (LWotC). Just duplicating this message with the full name of LWotC in case someone searches that text string.
Geobeetle Dec 5, 2024 @ 1:07pm
I like the recruit screen from this mod, I just don't like being forced to buy a recruit to see the next ones so I tried to change it back to vanilla behavior in the config
Geobeetle Dec 5, 2024 @ 1:05pm
If I turn on refill at the end of every month like in vanilla the game starts to lag every time I open the menu/recruit someone after a few months. I imagine that's because of the huge number of recruits it has to load every time. Is there a way to clear out the recruits tab besides purchasing them and dismissing? Or maybe add a limit to the number of recruits and remove the oldest ones?
RustyDios  [author] Nov 17, 2024 @ 3:00pm
All good ideas except;
- Combat intelligence is rolled AFTER recruitment, so I can't show it before
- Can't adjust the UI without some pretty heavy intrusions to the code, in short it's not worth the hassle ;) (Same for pausing scanning)
- the pool "refreshes" (by the default settings) only when you purchase someone, there was a suggestion to have a "skip unit" button, which is possible - I just haven't found the motivation to add something like that
the__mentat Nov 17, 2024 @ 2:41pm
@RustyDios, great mod. Playing with NCE (SWR's one), it is nice to see rookie stats before recruitment. I have a few improvement suggestions:
I would like to offer some constructive criticism, if I may:
* Display combat intelligence.
* If you configure the recruit to not arrive instantly, the label on the UI still shows "Instant". I don't know/think that can be easily changed. Also, when scanning, the recruit arrival event does not stop the clock. Again, these are just nice to haves but probably hard/impossible to implement.
* I haven't yet checked, but does the pool "refreshes" itself every X amount of time or at the end of the month? If not, having a soldier which is always available makes less sense (or why would you hire him if can't find a job for so long).
RustyDios  [author] Nov 10, 2024 @ 1:40pm
@SaintKnave
Hi !!!
I really appreciate you taking the time to give permission for usage, even after all these years. I have updated the mod description to reflect that permission has been given.
SaintKnave Nov 10, 2024 @ 1:20pm
Hi, it's SaintKnave, of the Recruits Conserve Character Pool mod (noticing this after years away from XCOM). You absolutely have my blessing for how you incorporated my mod idea into yours! I'm happy to see it, as I was only dabbling in modding and you clearly know what you're doing. Well done!
mtfrance Oct 9, 2024 @ 12:21pm
Count me as another who would appreciate a clean slate of soldiers monthly.
It would also be neat if a randomization element could be added to the recruitment cost.
Even neater if the cost could be weighted by the statistics of the soldier...
Ray Sep 18, 2024 @ 11:32pm
Oh really whoops haha thanks for letting me know then I was just confused since your photos have a slider and more than 7 I'll go redownload then it's quite nice to see stats on my recruits
RustyDios  [author] Sep 18, 2024 @ 11:26pm
? sounds like this mod working is working fine, it should cap at 7 and each time you purchase a recruit it refills them ?
Ray Sep 18, 2024 @ 10:09pm
Hi Rusty. I seem to have lost the ability to scroll down the recruit list and instead it is capped to 7 in the menu. It was working fine before. I shouldn't have anything that conflicts with the mod too and something weird I tested and found out was there is only 7 available recruits without the mod (I removed it) but with the mod it is an infinite amount I can keep recruiting forever and forever. Got up to 50 new recruits and just reloaded my save.
RustyDios  [author] Jul 15, 2024 @ 9:16pm
@lighteneddark
sorry for a late reply!.. I could try to do something like that, but for this mod in particular, none of it is my code... and I only barely understand what it all does. I took 3 mods that all overwrite (MCO) the same class and merged them so they be able to work together ...

... and I did that 4years ago ... and have never needed to look into/study/change/adapt the code since...

@nightmaredream
this mod only effects recruits coming from the recruit screen. it doesn't affect who you have in character pool, you can easily manually make a 'Bradford clone' though. I suggest mr.Cloista's male clothing pack, that gives a fixed version of his torso
NigthmareDream Jul 15, 2024 @ 5:40pm
rusty bro I need your help your mod can make me get the central bradford from characther pool??
LightenedDark Jun 30, 2024 @ 3:08pm
Great mod. I put the starting and refill values back to vanilla 10 and 5, but I noticed the refill/overwrite system of vanilla isn't conducive to the idea of soldiers you want to be or not be recycled from your pool (either fluff or NCE). Once my pool refills at 5/month to the maximum of 10, the weak/annoying troops will sit there, filling up those precious 10 slots, forever, right?

If so, could you add a 'Save for Later' button for soldiers you want to keep in your recruitment pool who don't get overwritten? Or perhaps a 'reroll' button up to 5 uses, if that's easier. Sometimes I just want different recruits, and I'm pretty sure I've heard streamers express the same desire. For now, I'll just cheat for the supplies to get the 5 soldiers per month and dismiss them...
Circle of Psi Jun 15, 2024 @ 12:31pm
No worries o7
RustyDios  [author] Jun 15, 2024 @ 12:15pm
sorry, lol.. list is the list, it gets addressed in the order it's in to not show favouritism. The only thing that gets bumped is immediate game-breaking bugfixes that are required
Circle of Psi Jun 15, 2024 @ 12:13pm
Ahh I see, that makes sense how it'll be a completely different Recruit Screen, good to know, it's a shame it's on long (x3) of yours but totally understandable.

Now, I don't suppose there is a way for me to say, bump that to the top if the list, right?, just curious :coolstar2022: if not, no worries, will have to wait :steamthumbsup:
RustyDios  [author] Jun 15, 2024 @ 11:45am
Allies Unknown uses a completely different Recruit Screen and 'recruit barracks'... an entire separate plugin would need to be made for that and it's just never been on my radar to do so. Added to the long long long list of 'stuff to do'
Circle of Psi Jun 15, 2024 @ 11:11am
Hey so, this doesn't seem to work with Non-Human Soldiers (AKA: Allies Unknown), so this won't work for the Vipers as example, is there a way to allow this mod to effect the Allies Unknown Soldiers or is this something that Configs won't fix?.
Sniper677™ Apr 19, 2024 @ 10:47am
Thank you RustyDios and Dragon32 for your feedback.

I found myself a workaround as using 'Unlimited Recruits' is a one time action for my only.

As information as it might be interesting for you or others:

I am using 'Starting Soldiers' to get a small amount of customized soldiers from character pool on campaign start. But this leads somehow to an empty recruit pool and I couldn't figure out why and how to fix even with several configs for this mod.

Therefore your main feature 'refill on each buy' is not working, which pointed my to 'Unlimited Recruits'. I wanted to use the console command or load/save feature to get some recruits into the pool. But 'Unlimited Recruits' was not working at all.

Workaround is to start new campaign with 'Starting Soldiers' + 'Unlimited Recruits' enabled, save the game and restart XCOM with your mod enabled only.

But I guess I will go for a 2nd option in the future, with only your mod and monthly refill feature enabled and wait a month.
RustyDios  [author] Apr 19, 2024 @ 9:37am
Correct. As per point 5 of the Known Issues;
Unlimited Recruits Has major conflicting configs and theme.

Technically most of those configs are shared, and you could potentially set this up in the same way, at least for the starting barracks size and number of recruits each month. The default replace after each purchase can be turned off - but that is a main feature of this mod?

The only thing 'missing' then would be Iridars console command for spam adding recruits ...
Dragon32 Apr 19, 2024 @ 8:14am
@Sniper677™
I'm sure the Known Issues would say if there were. Also, XCOM 2 isn't Skyrim so load order's not something mod users can use.
Sniper677™ Apr 19, 2024 @ 1:53am
Is there any way to get your mod working together with 'Unlimited Recruits'?
I tried it using AML with different mod orders, but it did not help.
RustyDios  [author] Jan 22, 2024 @ 4:53pm
You have conflicts if you are getting lag using this mod.
It's a simple UI mod
Волк Jan 22, 2024 @ 4:48pm
Mod - 20 FPS! Be careful!
LockeEdwards Aug 16, 2023 @ 8:17am
Yes, actually. And if I'm using the Starting Soldiers mod, I don't want duplicates of my already existing characters to be up on the list for the rest of my game.
RustyDios  [author] Aug 16, 2023 @ 1:42am
That.. might be possible ..
What would the use case be to repopulate a short list with new people, so you have a fresh choice of recruits each month ?
LockeEdwards Aug 16, 2023 @ 12:41am
And I mean in a way that wipes the list that existed the prior month and completely repopulates it.
LockeEdwards Aug 16, 2023 @ 12:40am
Is it possible to get the pool to refresh with new soldiers each month?
Oblivious Naga May 29, 2023 @ 5:33am
I saw it ignores the Allies unknown alien recruit menu. I don't know if there's something I missed in the config or theres just no hook for it. If theres no plans for it, Its no big deal for me. You get a strong alien out of it which makes up for the lack of info
ZeZo Jun 16, 2022 @ 1:26am
I don't think that combat intelligence is rolled after purchase.

Save the game, recruit a bunch of soldiers, then check their stats.
Reload and repeat and you will see they always stay the same.

I was actually looking fr a mod that can do that and I was hoping that this one will.
RustyDios  [author] Feb 14, 2022 @ 8:23pm
Combat Intelligence is rolled after purchase so this mod won't be able to show it before purchase
dbairdt Feb 14, 2022 @ 7:59pm
Is there a way to show combat intelligence before spending supplies with this mod (or is the a mod that does)?
RustyDios  [author] Feb 11, 2022 @ 10:12am
Unfortunately NO, because LWotC now integrates the LWotC Display mod directly ... and you can't have two things MCO the same file at the same time. (That is why I made this mod in the first place for default WOTC)

You might be able to do something if you enable this mod and then disable the MCO in LWotC, but I don't know without looking at what ELSE the LW-integrated MCO does ... so, that's an option to try at your own risk (and I don't play LWotC myself to test it out, as testing for LWotC seriously messes up my own Covert Infiltration campaigns)
zion6 Feb 11, 2022 @ 9:24am
I appreciate you giving the information about SaintKnaves Preserve Character Pool and incompatibility with LWOTC. He didn't allow comments on his page and thus I had a slowdown of PC due to that incompatibility. I had to actually install and use AML to find the conflict because he was too rude to leave a comment area where someone like me could point the conflict out to others....thanks for the documentation!
On another note, is there a way around that conflict when playing LWOTC? I would like to ration out my Character Pool if I could.
RustyDios  [author] Feb 3, 2022 @ 3:34pm
I don't, sorry. It won't take long to build up a decent pool of your own creation :)
Jonny Woo Feb 3, 2022 @ 2:53pm
Thanks for reply. Do you keep your soldier pool public anywhere by the way?
RustyDios  [author] Feb 3, 2022 @ 2:39pm
The game does do that yes. I know of no way to remedy that other than make a bigger pool.
in my own games I tend to run with a pool of about 80-120 people (it was 115 when I last exported my pool as a backup), including a good distribution of factions and sparks. I don't normally see randoms except from the Flawless mods rewards (Retaliation finished with high civ count rescued).

Normally assigned people as rewards etc get picked again later if you don't collect them, or they die on the rescue mission. Not sure about the +rookies POI (map scan), might work differently
Jonny Woo Feb 3, 2022 @ 1:59pm
Hi, I have a pool of 46 soldiers and I've tested the mod it works all well in the beginning of the game. Basically I made it so that 3 new recruits are available at all time. If I start hiring after some time my 46 soldiers end and random start to appear.

After I checked that all works, In started new campaign and ended up with +/- 20 soldiers in my Armory. But after some time, new soldiers and new recruits started to be randomly generated.

I have a theory that If you have recruits as reward on the map, the game assigns soldiers from your pool there even if you don't pick them up. Can you confirm that? And is there a way to remedy that? Thanks
