What I want to achieve is this:
1- The recruit list should include randomly generated soldiers only.
2- Only my own character pool soldiers should appear in missions or as rewards.
How can I do that?
I tried this mod and started 2 new campaigns, but my character pool soldiers still appear under the 'Recruit' list.
and then add 'values per month' to the correct section of the XComGameData.ini
- Combat intelligence is rolled AFTER recruitment, so I can't show it before
- Can't adjust the UI without some pretty heavy intrusions to the code, in short it's not worth the hassle ;) (Same for pausing scanning)
- the pool "refreshes" (by the default settings) only when you purchase someone, there was a suggestion to have a "skip unit" button, which is possible - I just haven't found the motivation to add something like that
I would like to offer some constructive criticism, if I may:
* Display combat intelligence.
* If you configure the recruit to not arrive instantly, the label on the UI still shows "Instant". I don't know/think that can be easily changed. Also, when scanning, the recruit arrival event does not stop the clock. Again, these are just nice to haves but probably hard/impossible to implement.
* I haven't yet checked, but does the pool "refreshes" itself every X amount of time or at the end of the month? If not, having a soldier which is always available makes less sense (or why would you hire him if can't find a job for so long).
Hi !!!
I really appreciate you taking the time to give permission for usage, even after all these years. I have updated the mod description to reflect that permission has been given.
It would also be neat if a randomization element could be added to the recruitment cost.
Even neater if the cost could be weighted by the statistics of the soldier...
sorry for a late reply!.. I could try to do something like that, but for this mod in particular, none of it is my code... and I only barely understand what it all does. I took 3 mods that all overwrite (MCO) the same class and merged them so they be able to work together ...
... and I did that 4years ago ... and have never needed to look into/study/change/adapt the code since...
@nightmaredream
this mod only effects recruits coming from the recruit screen. it doesn't affect who you have in character pool, you can easily manually make a 'Bradford clone' though. I suggest mr.Cloista's male clothing pack, that gives a fixed version of his torso
If so, could you add a 'Save for Later' button for soldiers you want to keep in your recruitment pool who don't get overwritten? Or perhaps a 'reroll' button up to 5 uses, if that's easier. Sometimes I just want different recruits, and I'm pretty sure I've heard streamers express the same desire. For now, I'll just cheat for the supplies to get the 5 soldiers per month and dismiss them...
Now, I don't suppose there is a way for me to say, bump that to the top if the list, right?, just curious
I found myself a workaround as using 'Unlimited Recruits' is a one time action for my only.
As information as it might be interesting for you or others:
I am using 'Starting Soldiers' to get a small amount of customized soldiers from character pool on campaign start. But this leads somehow to an empty recruit pool and I couldn't figure out why and how to fix even with several configs for this mod.
Therefore your main feature 'refill on each buy' is not working, which pointed my to 'Unlimited Recruits'. I wanted to use the console command or load/save feature to get some recruits into the pool. But 'Unlimited Recruits' was not working at all.
Workaround is to start new campaign with 'Starting Soldiers' + 'Unlimited Recruits' enabled, save the game and restart XCOM with your mod enabled only.
But I guess I will go for a 2nd option in the future, with only your mod and monthly refill feature enabled and wait a month.
Unlimited Recruits Has major conflicting configs and theme.
Technically most of those configs are shared, and you could potentially set this up in the same way, at least for the starting barracks size and number of recruits each month. The default replace after each purchase can be turned off - but that is a main feature of this mod?
The only thing 'missing' then would be Iridars console command for spam adding recruits ...
I'm sure the Known Issues would say if there were. Also, XCOM 2 isn't Skyrim so load order's not something mod users can use.
I tried it using AML with different mod orders, but it did not help.
It's a simple UI mod
What would the use case be to repopulate a short list with new people, so you have a fresh choice of recruits each month ?
Save the game, recruit a bunch of soldiers, then check their stats.
Reload and repeat and you will see they always stay the same.
I was actually looking fr a mod that can do that and I was hoping that this one will.
You might be able to do something if you enable this mod and then disable the MCO in LWotC, but I don't know without looking at what ELSE the LW-integrated MCO does ... so, that's an option to try at your own risk (and I don't play LWotC myself to test it out, as testing for LWotC seriously messes up my own Covert Infiltration campaigns)
On another note, is there a way around that conflict when playing LWOTC? I would like to ration out my Character Pool if I could.
in my own games I tend to run with a pool of about 80-120 people (it was 115 when I last exported my pool as a backup), including a good distribution of factions and sparks. I don't normally see randoms except from the Flawless mods rewards (Retaliation finished with high civ count rescued).
Normally assigned people as rewards etc get picked again later if you don't collect them, or they die on the rescue mission. Not sure about the +rookies POI (map scan), might work differently
After I checked that all works, In started new campaign and ended up with +/- 20 soldiers in my Armory. But after some time, new soldiers and new recruits started to be randomly generated.
I have a theory that If you have recruits as reward on the map, the game assigns soldiers from your pool there even if you don't pick them up. Can you confirm that? And is there a way to remedy that? Thanks
:-)
