Bug with the Roman ballista and onager (to my knowledge):
When using them to attack a specific target, it'll start moving the ballista/onager unit towards the target even in a straight and plain terrain. It won't attack. I can only allow it to fire automatically

when a roman legion gets out of attacking testudo from being in range of an enemy, they don't throw their pilums first but immediately go into melee; is this as intended or a bug?

@Geronimo98 Reminds me of WH40k DoW II, when the Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons Team crew didn't have their lasguns coded in - you can see where it goes from there :P

the only thing that ive found that needs to be fixed is when using the ballista and commanding them to attack a specific target they close range to attack with dogs and dont use any artillary fire

To role play as ROMA, you get every single tool under your belt. pick and choose on the fly, adapt. The thing about DEI or with any other submods that I really want to change is, repetition. I like the desperate need to adapt.

@TheRealThing08 Yes is true in manual Romans, or so far as we know, wasn´t common but not mean they can't use it, because in moments of desperation any tactic is valid as a good soldier and Romans a lot of time do that. They use special shields against Lusitanos because the swords broke their (roman) shields.

Romans most certainly did not fight in testudo while going into melee but okay. Lindybeige has a good video on it if you're interested

Hi guys, after many years out due to my career, I am considering modding again. I am thinking about a mod for DEI, which I consider a master piece. DEI is done to a level of perfection that leaves litter room for improvement, but I was considering some tweaks to make it more ROMA role-play. I made one for myself, so I would probably post it here if you guys are interested.

one more comment, that might be seen, maybe not, anyway: i noticed that roman pilum-armed infantry (hastati, princepes, legionaries, etc) are now all treated as ranged units. in order for them to attck an enemy unit they need to be put into melee mode manually. when the player does this, the unit only charges but soes NOT throw the pila, liek in vanilla and other mods. pila are only threown if in ranged mode. this has led me to have my men throw first for a bit and then manually order them to attack. its tedious and requires far more control. in vanilla (and in real life) this was automatic, part of the drill and the men did this as they charged with no extra orders.

nice alternative to the UI clutter that results from "Best Roman Formations" mod, haf of which doesnt work. only issue I saw was that when i activated your mod, the "for rome!" ability didnt exist for any of my units and i set up a custom battle with pretty much every vanilla roman unit.

Just to say, Rome was OP because of it's geography, and the centralized authority and bureaucracy of the Republic and later Empire.

The "Legions" were hardly special. They lost many, many, many battles. What set Rome apart, was not the tactical efficacy of the Legions, it was the states ability to raise legion after legion when they did lose them. Carrying out an attrition based style of warfare that very few other kingdoms/city states/confederations they ran into could match (none of them west of the Levant could).

The success stories of the Roman legions echoes the same success stories of every other actor at the time. When they were fielding veteran armies, they ♥♥♥♥♥♥. When they didn't, they got ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Case in point. 2nd Punic War. Hannibal rampages up and down italy for a decade, wiping out Legion after Legion, which the Republic replaced over and over. Finally Hannibal loses, ONCE, and Carthage is KO'd.

remove the dogs, they disable the ability to manually target with siege units until the dogs are released when close to an enemy unit. this makes the artillery useless

So idk why its not like the mod doesn't work, its just the formation itself doesn't really keep intact. Some soldiers in the front will keep getting out of it eventually, and before enemies charge the units will taunt which also disrupts it.

I love this mod, but when I started a Rise of the Republic campaign I can't recruit any units. After awhile of ticking on and off other mods, this one was the issue. Please fix, this is my favorite mod!
