Just a headsup: In the Mod Options dialog, I see what AI tells me is a missing translation. NonInteractiveNamingChanceLabel is shown with all-accented characters.

@Yoann Thank you! Rope is what I was thinking of for the "farm-type" animals for sure. I thought about proximity naming (naming within a certain distance), but that'd make the mod a bit heavier since it'd have to check pawn location.

Was also thinking possibly animals could be named during caravans, but not everyone uses those very often, so not sure on that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In vanilla, every starting animals are named. Outside of that, they are named only when bond (since ~1.2), and only animals with at least Intermediate trainanility can bond.
Outside of training, bond can happens during tending, during taming, and when animals spend time near master (drafted, and maybe field work).

You could cover all animals by adding:
_tame (1%)
_tend (0.4%)
_nuzzle (for cats)
_rope (for horses, pigs, chicken...)

Independent settings could be good as some activities happen lot more often (milking every day, shearing every 10~15 days...).

@Yoann - not sure on horses off the top of my head, but I believe cats (and dogs) get names by default. I do have plans to implement naming for animals that aren't trainable/shearable/milkable, but I just started a new job, so it may be a bit before I can dig into that.

@Church.exe well that is weird as heck. The workshop page says 6/10 at 11:32 pm for me, and I can definitely state I haven't uploaded anything since then, lol. Now I'm concerned. Sounds like I need to get the actual update out sooner rather than later.

The steam page says updated on the 11th at 12:32 for me and Rimpy says that it was updated around 5pm, which is why I thought (though according to steam I was wrong) that it updated "about an hour ago". I can also attest that Steam must have downloaded the update around 5pm too since I've been fiddling with the pack throughout the day and it didn't have a version warning earlier. I know steam has been going a bit screwy over the past day or two, could that have caused something to go wrong with the update? (either with the upload on your end or the download on my end)

@Church.exe Odd - we didn't push anything on our side. We haven't published any changes to the mod since 6/10. We should hopefully be publishing an updated version soon, which will hopefully resolve the 1.5 issues.

As a heads up the update rollback (or what I assume was the update rollback since it happened about an hour ago) seems to have broken something with the versioning. In Rimpy the mod is listed as no longer being compatible with 1.5.

To those who don't know, in Rimpy choose Animal Namer, right click and choose open file with Wordpad. just copy and paste 1.4 line in another line. ( <li>1.4</li) and switch it to ( <li>1.5</li) in the About.xml doc. Close, save. Rimpy should stop complaining then then.

Apologies for radio silence - work has been busy. The mod should work on 1.5, the tag being there is from when we did an upgrade but found a bug, causing us to roll back. The only change in the "new" version is to remove an intermittent error with sculpture tales.

This mod doesn't seem to be updated for 1.5. The mod has no 1.5 folder.

I have been using this mod on a 2 year colony for 1.5 and it seems to work just fine, my animals keep getting named organically by pawns interating with them. Just like the mod advertises. So yeah, I'd say it is still compatible and safe to use.

Would be a way for animals that don't produce or have advanced training to get named by colonists too? Like horses. Maybe on taming?

@Victor Ah, okay. I was very impressed with how many mods you have! :D

It might be worth checking your saved game files for Animal Namer TaleDefs and see if something got messed up in there - I'm not sure where that's coming from since I can't find anywhere the def *should* be unnamed...

It seems to happen every time. I don't see any problem happening in my game.
I think something is either messing up my game load or the file saving, probably has nothing to do with your mod. Here is a log I got after enabling debug mode:

@Victor - a couple troubleshooting questions from my end, sorry: does that happen every time you load that save file? Does it happen for all of your save files, or just that one? Is that save file originally from 1.4 or another version? Also, do you mind loading that file with Debug Logs on for Animal Namer and sharing that log, please? Thank you!

@Mooneye I've been thinking about adding that as an option, it wasn't an issue until they were no longer trainable. Would have to figure out a way to have the random naming trigger.
