I need help with the DEI reference topic, because I want to make a mod for Divide et Impera but I don't know how to start, I've been reading guides but referring to vanilla and not one to DEI
but they released in the tools section in your Steam Library, the Assembly Kit, and in it there is a variant editor
now the thing is, you're gonna have to extract everything that are model files and such to the "working_data" folder cause much of the stuff in DEI is custom made, so it won't show up in editor, the unit will be missing parts cause it's trying to find references to stuff that doesn't exist. so the variantmesh folder with variant models and variant definitions must be in the working data folder of the editor(you'll see it when you start looking through the folders to open the application).
DEI team used the slots in a creative way to get a lot more customization done and I get it, but yeah it's like a maze at times. Took me a while to figure it out.
But this one is simple go into the variant editor so you can actually see the unit and go into the part that contains the helmet and replace it with w.e
Lastly you guys are always welcomed to copy the mod and make your own version(replace the variant mesh entry of that helmet with a different one or an empty one), and share it even, just share the original source back to this one if you kept everything else the same.
I think makes sense since they are the early units, anything else being worn on the Spartan Youths wouldn't make sense, to have an overly decorated(everything looks overly decorated compared to a pylos) on them...and as for the Spartan Hoplites and swordsmen, the reason Ieft them there is because the unit cards show them with it and they ought to be wearing it due to tier level. I only made the exception to remove it entirely from the Spartan Thorax Hoplites.
That tall conical helmet without cheek plates looks really bad man. I realize that in no way is the helmet model your fault and that you are trying to maintain some historical accuracy, but I would just really love enhancing the aesthetic that YOU have cultivated with the mod and making them look overall, WAY BETTER YOUR WAY! Thanks, and honestly, I will pay you $5-10 US for you do it man, that's how much I HATE that helmet haha!
Also, @Juukavin, I share your sentiments completely sir and agree!
If anything I have my mods at the top of the load order, but I never had an issue with missing armor or w.e
and thats like my only complaint with the base game too
Edit: would you mind making the Corinthian helmets more prominent in general? Or perhaps you can tell me which helmets in the variant_mesh files to tweak? Thank you!
