Lost the files for this so a new upload was required.

It works with Knight Manager and allows you to add trait via a decision now.

I've been playing with it on and it's been working. I think it's actually a super important mod lol! This really helps with keeping the wrong people off the battlefield. Really hope someone can take over.
Velar  [author] Nov 30, 2020 @ 9:33am
Sorry again, I have not been on in awhile. I have been incredibly busy, I won't have a chance to update this until Jan the earliest. If someone else wants to make their own updated version of this you have my permission to use my code / update it and re-release it.
Rams0505 Nov 30, 2020 @ 5:50am
Update this mod for 1.2 pls

KatDLF Oct 17, 2020 @ 5:21am
I love this mod but now the game's claiming it's not compatible.

Any chance you're going to tinker with it, please?
Endrovy Oct 15, 2020 @ 12:01pm
Update pls :) <3
GorishiDan Oct 2, 2020 @ 4:55am
a decision would be great, and such decision should ask the player how much prowess should be needed for their own knights, like, 5,10,15 etc so it can work well for everyone's gameplay tastes
Velar  [author] Sep 30, 2020 @ 5:58am
So I had a chance to test this with the new update, no crashes or anything but it will need to be updated so that it has the desired effect.

I will update this tonight / tomorrow morning, until then you can play your save with/without it while you wait.

Know you are busy, so I don't expect you to address me immediately.

The current iteration of this mod makes the Gallant Tree's 'King's Guard' pretty underwhelming. Even if I have 15 slots for my knights, a lot of the time only 3~4 people are eligible for knighthood. Could you make it so that the marshal could train prowess of people who are not already knights? I mean, it makes sense right? The trainer is there to train inadequate people into competency, not to train 30 prowess blademasters into doing better. Maybe he could train all the children in court as well.

Enjoying the mod, gr8 work.

@Poppy
That wouldn't be hard to add but I just don't have the time to spend on it. If you would like to help out and type up the decision events I can add them here. Otherwise, it will be a while until I loop back to this to add anything. I have other ongoing projects/work/school that take a majority of my time.

@Revelation
No dice, still couldn't get rulers to be knights. I REALLY want to figure it out. But so far I have had zero luck. It is a requirement for my next project so hopefully I will figure it out soon.
Baowow Sep 23, 2020 @ 3:39pm
can you create a character interaction (right click menu) that designate someone eligible to become knight, rather than using console command.
Velar  [author] Sep 23, 2020 @ 6:22am
I tried changing the trigger for ARMY_OWNER no luck there.

I didn't see the 00_relation_triggers though, I will play with that thanks !!
行者 Sep 23, 2020 @ 2:09am
or 00_relation_triggers?
# 10 - Knights
any_knight = {
NOT = { is_in_list = $LISTNAME$ }
count = all
add_to_temporary_list = $LISTNAME$
}
行者 Sep 23, 2020 @ 1:35am
I noticed that there might be clues in some places in 00_rules, but I didn't know what to do.
can_be_knight = {
can_be_knight_trigger = { ARMY_OWNER = root.court_owner }

Thank you for the effort. Be well.
Velar  [author] Sep 12, 2020 @ 10:50am
@William I couldn't figure out how to make rulers also be knights, I gave up sadly. Either way that isn't part of this mod and was never planned to be. Would be cool as a separate mod but like I said I couldn't figure it out. The scoping is super weird and there are other triggers preventing it.

@Magic and Horror, thanks for the kind words! (I also uploading this to Paradox under the same name)
William1976 Sep 12, 2020 @ 10:14am
If you could find a way or show me some tips to make characters be like normal knights that would be great. I love the game, but my only gripe is that rulers cant use prowess like real knights. Thank you.
Magic Cuboid Sep 12, 2020 @ 2:59am
I feel like this is the simplest solution which fixes most of the problems of dying nobles. Thanks!
HorrorExpress Sep 9, 2020 @ 8:22pm
Hey, Velaryon. Great mod.
Could you upload it to Paradox, so it can be put in Playsets through the launcher?

Thanks for the contribution to the community.
Velar  [author] Sep 9, 2020 @ 5:49am
If I can figure out how to do it then that will be my next mod. It would be separate from this though.
alsghand Sep 9, 2020 @ 2:21am
Could player character be a knight and fight as knight?
I have always wanted to use player character prowess,
but it seemed that player character cannot fight like other knights
Velar  [author] Sep 8, 2020 @ 7:24am
You have to console add it duestere.
If you know how to use the console and it doesn't show the trait, unsubscribe and resubscribe, steam has been iffy about auto updating downloaded mods for CK3. If you don't know how to use the console, there are plenty of resources online.

As for the hook idea and opinion modifiers I like that but my time is limited and I am focusing on other projects. If I get a spark of motivation I may look into adding that.

@Violen,

Haha, I'll put that back in, didn't realize I removed it.
duestere Legende Sep 8, 2020 @ 4:12am
can you make generally an option for invite or force a vassal to a knight? i have big kingdom and much good vassals but not on my court.. so i cant get them.. most cant invite to court..

Violen Sep 8, 2020 @ 4:12am
I Miss the hilarious comment about "no more grenading nobles" ahahah xD
I'm so guilty of this LOL
GODOG Sep 8, 2020 @ 1:18am
Would be great if you could force low Prowess people to fight as a Hook/Negotiation action. Would make the cheesy aspect of forcing your 1 Prowess Courtier into the meat grinder less meme-y
Velar  [author] Sep 7, 2020 @ 5:11pm
Update: Added trait that allows you to force someone to be a "knight" with less than 9 prowess. Use the console and type add_trait vel_force knight <charID>
Velar  [author] Sep 7, 2020 @ 3:39pm
@Rams0505, this mod is working correctly as it is to prevent low prowess knights, it has nothing to do with low prowess commanders. I haven't played a faction that allows me to command and fight, is that a pagan thing? Either way, for the scope of this mod that won't be addressed by this. It is mainly to prevent grenading nobles with low prowess.

Also, as Minos said use battlefield safety for stuff related to surviving combat, its pairs well with this.

@EyeRuvDumprings,

There is always a catch, everything must be perfectly balanced. If you don't want the AI to kill off their rulers with low prowess than you cannot do the same with your sons. Try keeping it in your pants you filthy pagan.

That being said, if you convert to a proper reformed faith, and stop all the annoying raiding of civilized lands, I will consider making a console addable trait to accomplish this.
MINOS Sep 6, 2020 @ 11:32pm
@ Rams0505 :

Did you try the Mod "Battlefield Safety" yet?
It drastically reduces this Stuff and you can even go inside the Mod itself and lower just the 2-3 injury Numbers.
Rams0505 Sep 6, 2020 @ 10:51pm
Do you know how to change the wounded trait to have moderate health penalty instead of the severe health penalty it has now? Feel like if that wounded health trait penalty is changed to moderate instead of severe they will have better chance of surviving even if they command armies with low prowess.
Osium Sep 6, 2020 @ 10:05pm
Is there a way to allow the player to override via the forced champion toggle (maybe it does haven't tried it yet), but enforced for the AI? Playing as a tribal, one of the only ways to address having 8 sons, is sending them all out as champions and hoping that Odin sorts them out. At the same time, the AI gets absolutely crushed by using low tier champions.
Rams0505 Sep 6, 2020 @ 7:45pm
@Velaryon you sure this mod works properly? I think this only allows knights to be 9 prowess or above but AI rulers can still command armies with even much lower prowess since they are not knights but commanding. I just had an AI duke command an army agasint me with 3 prowess and getting maimed in combat. Kinda defeats the purpose if AI rulers with really low prowess can still command armies with this mod on. Pretty sure this only puts a prowess cap on knights not commanders.
MINOS Sep 6, 2020 @ 4:30pm
I'm also using the Mod "Battlefield Safety".
Before it, I had Tons of crippled and dead Nobles everywhere.
Many interesting Characters just vanished and shattered their Holdings, leading to weaker Realms.
If Nobles just die in this Game too easily, it creates Ton of Problems and adds Tons of Chaos.
Not problematic if you like Chaos, but it makes it way easier for the Player to paint the Map.
Rams0505 Sep 6, 2020 @ 4:16pm
@Dragatus Isn't that a good thing if AI nobles aren't leading armies with under 9 prowess and dying easily? Im running this with your mod, if I lower the prowess requirement for this will AI rules with low prowess still survive than before? I might lower it to 5 instead of 9 and see if they still level up without dying super easily.
MINOS Sep 6, 2020 @ 3:43pm
@ Velaryon :

So the Ai fills up with at least 9 Prowess Knights automatically; interesting and good enough to know.
Velar  [author] Sep 6, 2020 @ 3:17pm
In theory, this should force AI to search for knights. They have coded triggers if they do not have enough knights in their armies and that forces them to recruit new ones.
Dragatus Sep 6, 2020 @ 2:46pm
The vanilla game accounts for Prowess values up to 36 in the knight death calculations too, so 9 is 25% of the soft cap, which seems sensible as a minimum value.

The real issue IMO is that too few nobles are getting trained for war.
Velar  [author] Sep 6, 2020 @ 2:33pm
Minos, I went off of the in-game indications of skill. Anything under 9 is considered poor.
< 8 is poor
9 is considered average.

I feel like in my playthroughs I had knights with 9 prowess fairly easily. If you search for knights the min you can get is 12~ prowess.
MINOS Sep 6, 2020 @ 12:38pm
Isnt 9 too high?
wouldnt it be better to put it on 5 or 6 ?
I had a Ton of Knights which i couldnt even use, cause most have at least 4
Rams0505 Sep 6, 2020 @ 11:09am
@Velaryon Can you please make a mod to make declining allies call to war to lose -200 prestige on top of the opinion modifier? They way it is now, its better to decline the calls to war and then offer to join after.
Velar  [author] Sep 6, 2020 @ 6:22am
Thanks guys glad its helping!

Duestere, Paradox will most likely address this soon and my time is limited so I would rather not spend more time on this since it works for my intended purpose and goals for it. You are more than welcome to expand on this and make it a decision, I could help point you in the right direction if you like.
Rams0505 Sep 6, 2020 @ 2:03am
Thanks :) I was getting sick of all the AI rulers being children bc of this glitch of ruler dying in battle.
duestere Legende Sep 5, 2020 @ 9:54pm
sounds nice, but can you make it as ingame option with free selectable required level ?
BoRus Sep 5, 2020 @ 9:47pm
Thank you very much. I was getting really tired to do this manually)
I wish there was also some quick way to prevent councilors from participating in battles like a decision or something.
