I have considered going back and adding some visual markers or something to better hint at the route through, but the problem is integrating it visually without it looking hacky. The escape route already looks pretty bad. :/

Seems it. It wasn't intended for people to follow the 'tightrope' the whole way, and the wave's reasonably fast if you can see the flow for it. Unfortunately it doesn't read as well as I thought it did - I've had a bit of feedback about it and people seem to struggle with it more than wave 9, which I thought was much harder. I've picked up a lot of downvotes on this one and I think most of that comes back to 8 in particular, which is part of why i'd gone back and added an 'escape route' below the wave.

Still, lesson learned. I need to make sure any future layouts are much clearer about what the players is *really* meant to do.
