I put it below living world so that this overrides and haven't found issues yet, but I also have terminal restartitis so I've only ever taken over a single ruin one time.
tarworawut22 May 28 @ 5:42am
Hey i have a question, can it work with Living world Mod ?
Lawh  [author] May 27 @ 4:08am
Good stuff. And no problem, mods can get tricky and this mod series is especially prone to conflicts and bugs.
ares' icecream May 26 @ 10:43pm
hey man, found the problem, it was on my end, thanks for your help, probably never would have confirmed that if you hadnt replied. You do awesome work and made an awesome mod. thanks again
Lawh  [author] May 26 @ 3:51pm
Try Port North, and making sure Lady Kana is no more. Then move away from the desert with all of your people, and then move back to Port North to see if there is a change. And no bother at all.
ares' icecream May 26 @ 3:31pm
Ok, between the ambiguity of whose deaths are necessary and the fact that it requires outright death, im having a lot of trouble confirming if the mod even works. sorry to bother you for this, but could you give me one city and a list of who needs to die to vassalize it? because at this point ive fucked up my rep with everyone for no gains, and i either need to confirm this can work, or start over.
Lawh  [author] May 25 @ 6:10pm
Mostly, there is either a vanilla town leader with an important lore role, or a leader with a TOTW_Leader tag in their name, or both, and on some occasions you have to go on a rampage. I never got to really finalizing this system to make more sense, but mostly it's a good idea to kill everyone who looks important. You also have to make sure they're dead, and not unconscious or kidnapped, or anything like that. Proper dead. I've heard use of skin peelers, wild dogs, and crucifixions. Whatever happens to them, they need to end up in heaven.
ares' icecream May 25 @ 6:01pm
Ok, final questions.
what are the exact conditions for town takeover? There are characters with a tag for this mod, do i have to kill all of them? Do i just have to kill the one with a leader tag? is it a complete purge where i have to kill all the ones with the mod label, the characters in town with diplomatic status and their lieutenants?
Lastly, does a takeover require the deaths of the needed character/s, or does kidnapping and imprisonment work?
Lawh  [author] May 25 @ 4:24pm
1. Once you take over a town, the citizens will be of a generic faction named "Your Vassal" or something like that. The populace is replaced with this faction, so there won't be any hostilities with the new populace. The faction you took the town from will be angry though, but they will be angry in their own towns.

2. You should leave the town and go far enough with your people so that the town will reload itself. Then once you return, the town should show up as a green color, showing that they are allied to you. Blue is your color, red is hostile, and green is for friends.
Lawh  [author] May 25 @ 4:24pm
3. There can be a lot of mods that conflict with these take over mods, as this I think is beginning to reach the limits of what an and should be done. The 256 mod should not affect this mod at least, but other mods that change anything about the main towns are likely to cause some problems. The mods that go with this one are quite limited. There is the "limited" version of this mod, which should work with most other mods, but that has no vassals and so on. Only the ruins and little places are conquerable.
ares' icecream May 25 @ 3:07pm
Hey, having trouble getting the mod to work, wanted to ask a couple questions for trouble shooting/future use purposes.
1) Does this mod account for relation consequences? Like if i kill a bunch of people in a town vassalizing it, are they gonna shoot me when i go to collect taxes?
2) where would i see the change in town status? when i mouse over it on the map will the controlling faction be mine?
3) my best guess for why its not working is a mod conflict. Would it be more likely to be the 256 recruit limit one, or a buildable resource node one?
Pode May 19 @ 7:36am
Your least bad shot is to have this load after Living World
Lawh  [author] May 19 @ 3:12am
It's very unlikely. You can try the limited version and see how that works.
Raymond_Hessel May 19 @ 2:42am
Does it work with Living world?
Laffey Mar 23 @ 7:38am
How does this mod work? Nothing is being captured/vassalized from me, although I have eliminated the head of this place. Rescheduling the game did not help.
Lawh  [author] Mar 22 @ 2:34pm
I think if you import your save with "Dead NPCs" on and then relations and so on off, it might work, but not sure.
ttvCarlWheezerOfficiall Mar 22 @ 2:32pm
Is there a way I can be allies with the Police faction that spawns in? im neutral with them and they keep getting mad and attacking me, then all my vassals attack them and it starts a civil war
Lawh  [author] Feb 24 @ 1:27pm
Ah. Well, that's too bad.
Fasces Vitezslav Feb 24 @ 12:41pm
He already did it in the past. He just leaved everything and act edgy in self-pity, while ruining the game for many people.
Lawh  [author] Feb 24 @ 12:32pm
That's unfortunate. I wonder what happened.
Fasces Vitezslav Feb 24 @ 12:24pm
Thank you. This seems like really perfect mod for my new empire roleplay playtrough. I'm starting new playtrough after 300 hours, because Mogwai deleting his mods destroyed my whole save. I will let you know after some hours, how I like the mod.
Lawh  [author] Feb 24 @ 12:22pm
That unfortunately doesn't seem to be possible to do without being overly specific with the modding. Building in a city that isn't yours doesn't seem to work, unless it is a building that you buy.

What you can do is put this mod into the editor and see what I have changed. In there, you can edit the characters that spawn inside vassal towns to your liking. It is relatively simple to do if you have the basics of the editor under control. You can look for you YouTube channel for a video on the editor. It's quite long but it should include what you need.
Fasces Vitezslav Feb 24 @ 12:06pm
Would be possible version, where you can vassalize the city, but change the race of the population and also build there?
Lawh  [author] Jan 31 @ 3:50pm
Once you take over a town, it is filled with a faction that is your vassal and all the original people who lived there will leave.
ly Jan 31 @ 3:40pm
Once you take over do all the people despawn?
schizobunny Jan 7 @ 9:02pm
No owner?
schizobunny Jan 7 @ 9:02pm
Uh it's blank
schizobunny Jan 7 @ 8:58pm
Wait do u need to download TOTW as well or only VOTW?
Lawh  [author] Jan 5 @ 12:36pm
The mod introduced leaders have a "TOTW_" in front of their name. In some towns these aren't needed since the towns have leaders of their own.

There is a small window when you enter a town that shows you the owner of the town. Who owns the Hub when you enter it?
schizobunny Jan 5 @ 12:21pm
There's destroyed buildings everywhere in the hub can't seem to find a tax man anywhere, killed barman and shinobi dudes
schizobunny Jan 5 @ 11:59am
First time using ur mods may I ask how do I know it's a mod introduced leader?
Lawh  [author] Jan 5 @ 7:29am
In the Hub, I think you should get rid of the shopkeepers and the mod introduced leader. I'll try to get a chance to check it out.
schizobunny Jan 5 @ 2:40am
Hey may I ask what do I have to kill in the hub, heng and the 2 shek kingdoms so that I may be able to vassalize them? Unfortunately I have no other mods on and I went as far as halfway across the map to ensure that ur mod works but it don't work...
Lawh  [author] Oct 16, 2024 @ 12:43pm
@Loopadoopa
Forgot to get back to you. I looked at it and didn't find an issue. It could be a mod conflict or something I missed.

@youwandag
I think if you edit this mod, you can make any faction table it over and the game might automatically populate it with the faction's guys. Specific changes are difficult for me to make as the basis needs to stay as neutral and uniform as possible.

The limited version will allow you to take over locations other than main towns and so on. It's unfortunate that there needs to be so many different versions but three is still manageable.
youwandag Oct 16, 2024 @ 12:16pm
Is it possible to make the Noble in the Stone Camp be the Slave Trader faction, not Trader's Guild? I meant to take over the Stone Camp, but accidentally made mortal enemies of the Trader's Guild!

Also -- I didn't realize I needed TOTW-Limited to take over *towns*, good to know! Thank you.
Loopadoopa Oct 6, 2024 @ 4:59am
Howdy, I have killed the Barman and Ninja Guard Leader+squad in The Hub but I cant seem to Vassalize the town. Any ideas ?
Lawh  [author] Oct 6, 2024 @ 4:59am
I can't immediately see what the issue could be, but please do keep me posted if you find any clues.
NightlyPeace Oct 5, 2024 @ 7:59pm
@azrieljohnson I am having the same problem as well! Ill keep you updated on if i figure it out
azrieljohnson Oct 4, 2024 @ 10:46pm
I ran into an issue with Mongrel. I killed all of the TOTW people, then went away and when I came back, it was regular Mongrel with no TOTW or VOTW people as it would be if I took it over. I'm going to unsub, load and resub to see if things get fixed. I'll post this on TOTW as well.
Pir0man Oct 4, 2024 @ 12:15pm
compatible with genesis?
NightlyPeace Sep 10, 2024 @ 5:53pm
Hello, love the mod so far but i can not seem to find the Taxman for Squin
Azure Aug 3, 2024 @ 5:44pm
Get it,thanks
Lawh  [author] Aug 3, 2024 @ 9:23am
I think that is limited as well, although you can try to change all the town names to English ones and see if that works.
Azure Aug 3, 2024 @ 6:14am
Thanks for your reply! Then what about game language? Is that we could only use the english language version of the game?
Lawh  [author] Aug 3, 2024 @ 6:08am
This has the same rules as the other versions, so town changing mods won't work unfortunately.
Azure Aug 3, 2024 @ 6:04am
Is this mod compatiable with mods like living world? And can i use non-english version of kenshi?
Prottum Jun 30, 2024 @ 7:44am
Been trying to capture stoat, ive killed lord Iniba, walked away to make the town reload and killed half the population. Still i cant seem to vassalize it.
azrieljohnson Jun 6, 2024 @ 9:05am
For anyone looking to take over the ruins and make the towns become "Your Vassal", load Vassalize Over the World first, then Take Over the World (both near the end of your mod list). I've just done a test run and all of the towns with TOTW characters turn to "Your Vassal" and the ruins become yours outright. Also, any empty ruins become yours automatically. You can't repair the destroyed Ancient Citadels, but you can build small shacks on the sides at the top level, so that's something.
Etruvius Snell May 20, 2024 @ 7:02pm
And I guess for anyone encountering something similar whilst trying to get this mod to work for their own custom towns, maybe here's a fix for you
Etruvius Snell May 20, 2024 @ 7:01pm
@Lawh Alright, well I think I've figured it out (mostly). It seems that something with the taxman squad resident is crashing my game when my custom town(s) (I made multiple while trying to test to see what was triggering the crash) switch to the Vassal faction. This is strange considering that I remember encountering and interacting with the taxman in conquered vanilla towns. Do you perhaps know what might be happening? I removed the taxman squad from the faction in my own 'fork' of the mod file, and everything seems to work. Perhaps an update broke something? If you could do some testing on your own end, perhaps with some custom towns, it would at least be interesting to see whats happening here (at least for me as I have no idea why the taxman squad is crashing me, maybe a messed up script?). Either way, thank you for your reply and suggestion as I did indeed try it, though, this was the fix that I ultimately found.
