For comparison: At room temperature, meat will only keep for 2 days, Milk and Berries will keep for 14 days, and eggs for 15 days. I think it would be better game balanced and a bit more realistic of such a passive cooler could only cool down to, say, 5°Celcius in order to get double the normal spoil time. Alternatively, 4°Celcius would allow meat to keep for nearly 5 days, Milk and Berries for 35 days, and eggs for 37 days (keeping in mind that an in-game year is 30 days).

To keep the game balance it should be used as a container.
You can put a stack inside and keep it refrigerated.
That's the way it was intended with passive coolers.
This will keep it balanced since its only 1 stack what you can refrigerate and you need to keep the same amount of wood being utilized.
You can still put it outside to get it refilled by the rain but the items being refrigerated should be deteriorated as if they were " roofed " to keep balance.
