What I meant to say was thanks for the mod.

Just hit this point in the story, and it's even dumber than the first time I saw it. Not only does the dragonborn defeat demigods quite regularly, but even if not there is NO WAY they would offer up eternal servitude to Nocturnal. I've been to Sovngarde! The first time I walked away from the entire quest as ridiculous.

Bethesda really has a problem with some writers not understanding agency.
DjAlien360 May 3, 2021 @ 1:57pm
It's a very stupid quest indeed.. like the Dragonborn needs the help of Nocturnal or being a nightingale to defeat Mercer.. come on! The player can defeat dragon gods of legend, vampire master with hundreds of years and the first dragonborn.. but needs to pledge his soul to an minor daedra just to have "enough" of an edge to defeat Mercer.. simplly bs.
Rhia Sep 21, 2020 @ 3:14pm
I love this mod. Can you make a version on Bethesda .net, so that I can add it to Skyrim Special Edition? Thanks in advance. :)
Scythia Apr 24, 2019 @ 8:07pm
I always keep a few excess dragon souls around, to use to cover such debts. Once I absorb them, they are technically my souls, so if I owe a soul they're a fair trade.
gameythegeemer May 18, 2017 @ 7:42pm
I like this mod. I am playing as a vampire, so I've been dead for centuries. Don't have to do anything after you die.
Von-Reaper Dec 30, 2016 @ 1:43pm
Hey question, Will this get a Xbox port? i hate having to do this quest tbh, but with this mod it made it less annoying.
Squidia Sep 19, 2016 @ 1:00pm
I'd prefer to keep souls and afterlives as far away from my story as possible, barring some nice ghostly horror, so this mod is a breath of fresh air to me. It may not affect gameplay, and it may well be easy enough to headcanon lines of dialogue away, but not having to hear them at all goes a long way with immersing you.
Nerin Nightingale Nov 6, 2015 @ 10:37am
Definately consdering this. I did the Thieves Guild Questline once then refused to do it again after that because of that reason.. I didn't like the idea that my Dragonborn would be denyed her place in Sovengarde because she has to be trapped for all eternity. This might get me to do the quests again, because it was good, I just hated the ending.

Also, does this have any known bugs/glitches?
Saturn Oct 30, 2015 @ 7:07am
Nice but Nocturnal still says at the end ''Your fate waits you in the Evergloam''. Would be nice if you update the mod and remove that line.
Jay Oct 7, 2015 @ 7:01pm
Ugh, THANK YOU for this mod. If I could I'd skip the entire quest altogether, considering I'm more than capable enough to take down Mercer all by myself. The armor is crap aside from looking good, the powers are crap, and the oath is crap. At least this way I technically did not pledge myself into eternal servitude thanks to Karliah selling us into slavery because she wants revenge on something that has absolutely nothing to do with me.
Dovahsdottir_864 Sep 20, 2015 @ 5:47pm
I wonder if the Dragonborn's choice comes into it at all. If so, most of my characters probably end up in Hircine's Hunting Grounds.
The Smithybot Mar 24, 2015 @ 7:38pm
@SirDean

Actually, as Dragonborn, supposedly Akatosh has claim over your soul. And you're also supposed to go to Sovengarde. So either the Aedra have to play too, or you end up trolling all the Daedra.
Naedmi Dec 8, 2014 @ 8:56pm
The funny part is that throughout the game you can pledge your soul to several Deadra. And they never get mad at you if you pledge your soul to another. What the hell happens after you die? They all must play some kind of poker match to get your soul.
StandardLolgic Dec 5, 2014 @ 11:39am
@Brother_Hank By right of birth, the Dragonborn always goes to Sovngarde. Besides, all who are honorable and good and who die valiantly in battle can go to Sovngarde should they desire, like the Ebony Warrior. He was a Redguard who goes to Sovngarde after you kill him in a duel.
BradtheBarbarian Nov 28, 2014 @ 1:21pm
The way I see it, half the deadric princes plus Shor are going to be fighting over who gets the Dragonborn's soul after he dies anyway; assuming he does all the deadric quests. I've love to see a mod where they all duke it out to see who finally wins! Hircine? Nocturnal? Shor? Meridia? Or maybe even Sithis?
Witch_Doctor2020 Nov 19, 2014 @ 9:37pm
Thank you for the mod. I personally bought pretty solid into the Dark Brotherhood quest line, and was perfectly fine with its implications, and then this after thought questline with the Nightingales / Nocturnal really screwed with it. Hell even the Companions you could opt to go your own direction and refuse the eternal servitude. That just left Father Sithis....the way it should be!
[►] Djerůn Oct 8, 2014 @ 1:42am
I like when my characters pledge their soul to every single daedric prince just so in case of death none can claim it before dealing with the others :trazz: And then making them wait an eternity by becoming a vampire :cgrazz:
Maybe at some point I need to make a mod for the battle over your soul where the daedric lords who claim your soul go on a free-for-all battle for it :rrazz:
Bruce Boy, KING OF THE CLUB!!! Aug 13, 2014 @ 3:02pm

Helix Jul 24, 2014 @ 9:27pm
I don't really think the Dragonborn can be held to any of thier many eternal contracts they make throughout the game. They're just too powerful for any of the Daedra, or even the divines, to enforce their contracts.
A Really Fluffy Dog Jul 24, 2014 @ 12:38pm
@malcomy: get rekted.
Good mod for it being so simple, I was less than enthused at the prospect so I'm glad there's a simple fix. ^_^ thanks!
ali.txt Jul 15, 2014 @ 9:08am
I'm a khajit and eternal mead-drinking doesn't sound too good to me. But then again, neither does speulcher-guarding. But neither does eternal hunting! (Werewolf) And my khajit even worships Hircine! I'd say he'd sneak off to the non-alcoholic section of Sovngarde, if there is one. "Milk drinker!" "Yes. Yes I am."
Reprogrammed Automaton Jul 12, 2014 @ 12:08pm
Hahahaha, and I would just like to say for the record I do care about this, there is a long enough list of people waiting for your soul at the end of the game, one less is nice.
Kotommi Jul 12, 2014 @ 11:46am
Haha

Everyone, I have an important announcement to make.

TWO YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS AGO I made a fatal error. When making this mod, I didn't anticipate malcolmy's specific needs and preferences when he was looking for a Skyrim mod that met his preferences in July 2014.

You have my unreserved, deepest apologies regarding that.

malcolmy, I sincerely hope you can forgive me. What I have done - taking 30 minutes of my life to make a mod that fixed something that bothered me personally, and then uploading it to Steam Workshop just in case someone else would ever find it useful - is inexcusable. Next time, I will learn to 3D model, and painstakingly craft subtle, architecturally sound and staggeringly beautiful improvements to in-game areas, on the off chance that 28 months down the line, you stumble upon my work again expecting more than I have offered you.

Your devoted servant, sincerely and eternally,

-Kyle Hyde
beanus Jul 9, 2014 @ 12:24am
no offence im sure a wonderful modder but mabey try making a mod that does something people care about. i mean it doesnt change anything but a few bits of dialogue so whats the point?
mabey if you do something like this again at least make Nightingale Hall a bit cooler.
Kotommi Jul 8, 2014 @ 1:02am
@Achenar, I think that is there by default.
Yung Ducky Jun 27, 2014 @ 9:50pm
Yeah Karliahs a fucking bitch. The only real reason she brought both you and Brynjolf was as payment to Nocturnal just to find fucking Mercer.
Zariel Jun 10, 2014 @ 8:01pm
lol thief jesus. hahaha
Sunder May 26, 2014 @ 6:38am
still I think I'm going to get this to see if it fixes the glitch
Sunder May 26, 2014 @ 6:37am
yeah funny thing I've actually been using console commands on this part of the quest for a long time because Karliah never opens the gate... and the last time I did the final quest of the thieves guild I hid from Mercer, and then slit his throat before he could find me again. this was ofcourse after him saying I couldn't get the drop on him... so I geuss what I'm saying is LOLs I'd have to use console commands anyway.
Nonabelian Apr 30, 2014 @ 1:23pm
I think this is referenced in the main quest, when you go to sovngarde to defeat Alduin, and the dude asks you why you should be let in.
Bruce Boy, KING OF THE CLUB!!! Apr 29, 2014 @ 5:13pm
i alwayes hated it when karliah says i need nocturnal to defeat mercer even though im level 248
DBswag Apr 14, 2014 @ 3:43pm
I don't care what Nocturnal says I'm going to Sovngarde! I'm a nord and a Dragonborn nord at that so I ain't takin' sh*t from her.
james Mar 16, 2014 @ 4:32pm
I always assumed that scince the dragonborn had absorbed so many souls he would be able to use them as bartering chips to go where he pleased in the after life i mean what if your a nightingale a nord and a werewolf and had a comitment to a couple other daedra were would you go? So i always just assumed that the dragonborn would be able to pull some strings in the afterlife
KoolKidDeluks Feb 21, 2014 @ 12:50pm
This is great, I personaly don't want to give away my soul either.
sandalsocks Jan 14, 2014 @ 8:37am
This is a great addition (or maybe subtraction is a better description)! This always bothered me too, as most of my characters have nothing to do with any of the Daedra and then you get to this point and you are forced into servitude to one. Thank you for fixing it!
Russianderp1 Jan 5, 2014 @ 2:58pm
XD I have a mod that lets me marry Lydia :P
tyndal Jan 5, 2014 @ 9:59am
No Biggie. I think out of the group, Mjoll is the most confident in wanting to fight and adventure but also the most messed up. She wants to save Riften, because of Honor.. but as the wolrd falls apart.. still chooses to wander around inside Riften's walls. She was even too afraid to go and get her own weapon back.

She is with a man who rescued her who follows her around like a puppy.

She also has no concept that to clean up Riften, it's not the Thieves guild that needs cleaning but Maeven's control. A strong Guild can tell Maeven to Buzz off, and if the Dragonborn is both The Thieves guild leader and the listener.. Maeven's threats are now useless.
Nidai Nekomaru  [author] Jan 5, 2014 @ 5:17am
Oh for pity's sake. I was just thinking "Man, this is a mod that changes a later Thieves' Guild quest, why would a thief marry Aela?", then I remembered that Aela is the Companions girl and Mjoll is the one I was thinking of, who hates thieves and wants to clean up Riften. My mistake.
tyndal Jan 4, 2014 @ 8:53pm
A wood elf does.. what a wood elf does.

I liked Aela because she had some attitude, that you loose when she becomes your wife..

I dislike the hearthfire having her complaing about bringing up kids outside a city because of bandits and wolves and such.. she is a werewolf.. who loves to hunt.. (not sure why being out in the woods would bother her :)

I love building a story around a character. In the end I liked Aela and figure with her lifespan enhanced by being a werewolf and me being able to give her Hircine's Ring, her life would be extended. in the end I could wager with Hercine for her after her death... but would I even want that.

Based on my story of the last dragonborn being cursed to live tied to Alduin..
When alduin was released it reset the clock on Alduin's Time. As a side effect of a dragon soul and consuming 100+ dragon souls the last dragonborn (who consumed mirrak - the first dragonborn)

Good to see you still check in here :)
Russianderp1 Jan 4, 2014 @ 5:47pm
Lol I dont mind the oath you make to nocturnal because I have a statue of every Daedra in my house XD
Nidai Nekomaru  [author] Jan 4, 2014 @ 5:43am
Also,
>marrying Aela

tyndal, what are you doing.
Nidai Nekomaru  [author] Jan 4, 2014 @ 5:42am
I don't really play Skyrim anymore, so I apologise if this mod is somehow broken or outdated after recent patches and newer expansions, as unlikely as its simplicity makes that.

However, I find it encouraging to see how many other people were bothered by the quest in question, despite it being solely a lore/fluff thing and not affecting anything gameplay-wise.

You guys have good instincts.
Russianderp1 Jan 3, 2014 @ 8:39pm
You also make a pledge to another Daedra near Solitude
Kotommi Jan 3, 2014 @ 12:04pm
Well.. my warplan here is to sign that eternal soul of mine to as many daedric lords as possible. Then at my characters deathbed, rely on them arguing over it and the situation ending in Akatosh refusing to give the soul to anyone (that bastard child of a dragon Skyrim devs make you be gives you some dragon blood) and results me not having to do anything for them. Perks in life, no duties in death, excellent plan.
Fat Traveler Jan 2, 2014 @ 2:03am
Thank you
