This mod is wildly unbalanced. I don't know if it gets better and perhaps I'll come back later to review it but the mod author doesn't seem to understand balance very well. Just watched five of my guys get wiped at full health from a level 2 freeze spell at the Polka fight where Gerhalt joins. While it was a good idea to have magic be affected by attack power, the ratio is insanely off to the point that casters on both sides can 1 shot characters with cheap spells.

Yo the rats fight isnt hard. It is just boring. REally boring and slow. Perhaps the most boring , pointless fight i have had to endure in any tactics game lol. Other than that love the mod.

Just as addendum, I read a post down about the Quick Save/Load via F3/F2 respectively...it works. Wish I'd read it earlier. Fml. Make sure you select the MOD under the Shining Force 2 game and it will work, otherwise you may just be playing the Vanilla game.

Play on original difficulty. It's fine. Otherwise you run into Gizmos stage 1 that do 108 damage. LOL. The game gets difficult depending on whether you farm and utilize the train feature. Farm at bosses if you need to since they are great places to get money. Items also don't break.

When upgrading to MAGUS, the person will lose all their spells for RAZE (up to 3), a range 1 spell and a summon. Wizards honestly seem like the move, but RAZE and ring effects are too good to pass up also.

Wanted to share my experience with this mod- it is AWESOME. Literally felt like playing a new game in how characters are recreated and battles are reorganized. Dialogue is reimagined to continue the original Shining Force storyline. You are rewarded for remembering the placement of the secret items, and the game even changes the locations of areas around. There was a lot of love put into this mod and I felt overjoyed to explore and play the game just a bit differently.

I couldn't save like lots of comments have said but I just left the game on and came back to it when I could. Only advice is to save constantly in game. I didn't get to after I beat the underground level, so when I lost at the post credits fight, I had to do that again with all the items and just gave up.

Just a comment to people on the fence about trying this mod. It's very well done, and a lot of care and effort went into this mod. That said, magic damage in the early game is very punishing and learning your damage types is critical. It plays more like classic fire emblem than shining force 2.

Ok... so, there are LOTS of tiling errors and such. The first gizmo goes from being a dark monk, to dark wizards to finally a griffon. Not only that but the very first enemy attack hits my 10 HP main character with 122 points of damage??? .... no...

you can use F3 and F2 to quick save and quick load the game with mods also because I know I was worried about it when I first did it if you close the application it doesn't get rid of your save so you don't have to worry about having to keep your computer on or having to beat the whole game in one go just quick save and your all good.

This is awesome, thanks for making it! I haven't replayed SFII in 25 years. I don't like missing things in games but I'm old and I won't be able to menu->search every map. Do you have some tips I could use to not miss out on high yield secrets in War of the Gods, like Dark Matters etc? For instance, is there any way to smell the sulphur around it like the inventor in Granseal mentions ? Thanks!

The steam genesis emulator struggles with saving for lots of genesis rpgs. You probably want to use a separate emulator.

How do I save the game in this mod

Nothing to send, since the game won't save. Another day of grinding levels in this fight. Up to mid 30s now on pretty much the whole team.

Will say, the level of satisfaction I'll have if I do manage to get through this fight will make it worth it. Really enjoying the play through, even if it has bent me over several times along the way.

Both of those files are from 2/26, so that's probably from my last play through of the normal game. Finally lived long enough to see Kane get to my team, and he also 1 shots anyone on my team. Fun. At this rate it's more likely my PC shuts off for some reason and I lose all progress than it is I see Kane or Dark Sol die, let alone beat the fight.

@Starks if you change your mind the save is located in your Documents folder inside the Sega Mega Drive Classics folder

@alexbharmon No idea how to find saved files on Steam, if the save is even working. Haven't closed the game in 2 days because I'm pretty sure I'll have to start over if I do. I'll figure it out eventually, just getting really frustrated at boosted Peter/May/Luke/Rune/Grim/Kazin not being able to get through 4 enemies before Dark Sol is 1 shotting the other 6.

@Starks If you send me your save file I will record myself beating that fight with your party.

Really don't get how I'm supposed to beat this Dark Sol/Kane fight. You split my party up, and I have to try and rush my top party down to meet my hero because if I don't let the enemy smack my main group from a safe distance non stop and actually try to fight them, Dark Sol and Kane IMMEDIATELY run straight towards this group. Half the enemies dodge every physical attack so half the characters are useless. Everyone's right around level 30 and I've been able to make no dent in either of the bosses. There's not enough time to get my party together. I don't get it.

Raze is a physical spell, only certain classes get it. It is a method of utilizing high ATK to bypass DEF.

Don't play on Supers, that way you avoid high ATK Gizmos

Aura is a spell exclusive to Clerics.

The Creed quad are all pre-promoted. You may promote them as you like.

For what it's worth, to my understanding, if you go Monk with Karna, she won't get a heal spell? As aura is class-tied to Cleric and Sorcerer. BUT I SAVED THE VIGOR BALL FOR HER, SO LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS

Raze does a ton of damage and I used it all the time. I think it's meant to be just physical damage, but don't quote me.

Also, regarding Kazin specifically, I used the secret book to promote him and I greatly regretted it. I preferred the spells he already had. That's just me though! You may love it.

Also, is the Silver Tank removed? legit spent 10 minutes looking for it in that fucking cave.

Question: What is Raze. I just got Luke and he has it. I've cast on several types on enemies and it just does ~35 damage.

The Quad you get from Creed. Do they come promoted already? Should I save the secret book, etc etc? Because Kazin hit 20 and I'm afraid of what to give him, because this game seems to be about some optimizing.

Hello! I finished the mod and I loved it. Really enjoyed all of it. I had a few quick questions if I could. These are spoilers in some cases as well:

1. I thought I remember someone in the game saying there were 4 orbs, and that you could use them to access/fight enemies. Is this true? I only had the Ground and Air orbs but I couldn't find a place to use them.
2. Is there any benefit to fighting all the enemies in the secret fairy forest battle? I assume more gold. I killed the Ancestor before getting to other enemies and the battle ended.
3. Anything super secret I might have missed? I completed the battle in the Tower basement to get the key and necklace. I used the key and did that stuff, and I fought the secret battle using the necklace.
4. Is Lemon the last character you get?
5. Anything else random?

Hello! I just got to the dwarven blacksmith village. Can I get to the dwarf who makes the items? I am pretty sure I've gone in every staircase and can't seem to get over there. Loving the mod so far!

Well the Camela battle is the easiest way to get money. farming the hell out of it lol.
