Would be great if anyone knows what exactly those numbers means.
Rips Mar 27, 2022 @ 4:28pm
@Zepper202 thank you for the explanations. I will keep an eye on shifting in vanilla and if I am still not happy with it experiment with using this mod and see if it makes much of a difference despite you sadly no longer being able to maintain it.
Zepper202  [author] Mar 26, 2022 @ 9:24am
Keep in mind that the vanilla values I changed in the mod are still the same vanilla values that the current version of the game uses even though the problem is not as severe. I don't know what Paradox did to make a workaround for problem, but they didn't do it by changing the same values that I did. Therefore I can't guarantee that messing with these same modifiers will work for you like it did when I first made the mod.

I hope this helps mod makers and gives some closure about where this mod is going in the future. (3)
Zepper202  [author] Mar 26, 2022 @ 9:23am
The modifier changes to the 00_defines file have already been described above, and really those three values are all the things this mod changes. I included some additional modifiers in the mod file, but those don't actually change any vanilla values. If you were to tweak the values that I use, I would start with POP_ETHOS_DIVERGENCE_RATE_MULT; adjust the 1900 by +/- 100 and then run a save for a few years to see what happens. If you want to completely eradicate the last traces of an ethic, drop that POP_ETHOS_LOWER_ETHIC_THRESHOLD to near 0 (I don't know what would happen if you actually made it 0, but it could create problems). I apologize for being generally neglectful of this mod for over a year now. To be honest, I felt that the problem this mod aimed to fix was solved by Paradox some updates ago, and as such I stopped trying to work on the mod. I do not plan on continuing to update this in the future, but anyone who feels that the vanilla pop ethics shifting doesn't work the way they want it to has my full permission to make and publish their own version of this mod. The rest of this message thread will include some tips for making your own version. (1)
Rips Mar 26, 2022 @ 2:24am
Sadly my pops don't seem to shifting as anticipated from the mod notes. Since the logic sounds fairly straight forward that it should work fine with the latest version of the game, without an update labelling it as such, is it possible to confirm that it does actually work still?
Схуяли Feb 15, 2022 @ 10:05pm
Update pls
Pamparampampamparam Nov 18, 2021 @ 12:51am
I'd rather disable ethics drift for the AI completely tbh
VMacWolfV Apr 27, 2021 @ 5:32pm
@BlackLaser this mod will probably never get an update. You can simply change the settings yourself and the version. Just open it up in notepad.
BlackLaser Apr 21, 2021 @ 6:32pm
Seconding LexieLaochra's question... will it get a 3.0 update?
VMacWolfV Apr 16, 2021 @ 7:27pm
If the launcher notification annoys you so much go open up the descriptor.mod and change "supported_version="2.6.2" to 3.0.x
VMacWolfV Apr 16, 2021 @ 7:25pm
Why are y'all so annoying about updates? update it yourself even though it's unnecessary. It's literally five lines of code. Here's the entire mod:
NGameplay = {
POP_ETHOS_LOWER_ETHIC_THRESHOLD= 5.0 # If the % of pops following an ethic is <= this relative to its attraction do not diverge away from it
POP_ETHOS_UPPER_ETHIC_THRESHOLD= 2.0 # If the % of pops following an ethic is >= this relative to its attraction do not diverge to it
POP_ETHOS_DIVERGENCE_INTERVAL= 360 # Number of days until a Pop has a change to diverge from empire ethos
POP_ETHOS_DIVERGENCE_RATE_MULT = 1900.00 # Chance of a pop evaluating its ethics every year
POP_CHANGE_FACTION_CHANCE= 100.00 # Once every month a pop has X chance to change faction but only if the pop wants to
}
LexieLaochra Apr 16, 2021 @ 8:23am
Will this be updated for 3.0?
Kryndude Apr 9, 2021 @ 1:37pm
Update yet?
Astro1 Feb 21, 2021 @ 6:20am
Doesnt really seem to work, or atleast when you have huge pops it doesnt make much of a difference sadly.
Dalek Overlord Jan 31, 2021 @ 1:44pm
It's been a while since I've had Stellaris installed as well, but I'm getting a new SSD and have decently large amounts of free time to do nothing in, so if you'd like any testing assistance, feel free to let me know.
Zepper202  [author] Jan 30, 2021 @ 11:22pm
I've taken a long hiatus from this mod (and Stellaris in general), but having gotten back into the game I've noticed that the problem is back now. I'll start experimenting with the values again for a new update, starting with what's been suggested to me.
Aus1rathia Jan 23, 2021 @ 9:21pm
Surprisingly, it seems this mod still needed.

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/stellaris-pop-ethics-shifting-still-does-not-works-as-supposed.1453534/

P.S: I think the best setting is
POP_ETHOS_DIVERGENCE_RATE_MULT = 5.0
POP_CHANGE_FACTION_CHANCE = 1.0

if you want thing balanced as PDX actually intended (The ethics once held by the intellect do not change easily, and if it does, MTTH will take about 15 years.)
Azerbaijan_Technology Dec 8, 2020 @ 11:26am
Does it work now?
Venerator Nov 7, 2020 @ 3:12am
Oh frick yeah, try to impose your ideology now you xeno lovin' bastards
RedAurelian270 Oct 30, 2020 @ 10:48am
Thanks for answering zepper keep up the great work mate
high cholesterol Oct 30, 2020 @ 7:34am
My game won't boot with this enabled, worked fine in 2.7
Zepper202  [author] Oct 29, 2020 @ 1:18pm
I didn't see any potential conflicts when I was reading through the patch notes. The mod should function like it did in 2.7
RedAurelian270 Oct 29, 2020 @ 12:04pm
Hey zepper will we need an update of the mod for 2.8?
Zepper202  [author] Oct 15, 2020 @ 11:56am
I haven't dug around much in their code, just checked to see if they altered the same values I did when they updated the game and they didn't. Functionally though, it works the pretty similarly to what the mod does; pops are way more responsive to different ethics attractions and they'll gradually shift to them depending on how strong the attraction is as well as based on other planetary and personal factors. If you played the game with my mod you should get a much stronger and faster shift than what you'd normally get in vanilla. Personally, I think using the mod makes the shifting too powerful now, but I won't mark it as obsolete because some people enjoy having it that way.
JenkoRun Oct 15, 2020 @ 6:51am
What did PDX do that differs from this mod? Trying to decide which I prefer, thanks
Zepper202  [author] Oct 12, 2020 @ 12:00pm
As far as I can tell the original bug has now been fixed. The mod handles the fix in a different way to what the devs did though, so using this mod with the current version of the game should lead to very rapid and fluid pop shifting, which wasn't my intent but I know some people like that. That said, I don't plan on continuing to work on the mod.
MeteorJunk Oct 9, 2020 @ 4:43pm
will this mod be updated to 2.7
Zenith Jul 4, 2020 @ 1:31pm
Aight, time to suppress all of my current factions and pray to god that my pops turn militarist.
Wish me luck lads.
Dr. Edward Jensen May 25, 2020 @ 7:03am
Hey! I do love the idea of a ethics shift check per ONE YEAR - but I can't get the mod to work, is there any place it should be put in the load order? I've tried putting it at the top and at the bottom of my load order, but no change:C

Also does it fix that awful 2.7.1 bug with "POP Ethics dance?". I'm looking for something to fix this issue :C
Starlancer May 18, 2020 @ 3:41pm
@That Cute Dragon Paradox is aware of that bug and they fixed it in the 2.7.2 beta patch
Zepper202  [author] May 17, 2020 @ 11:56am
That's something I've also noticed when I'm not running the mod. I get wild shifting between my most popular factions with some losing over have their members in just a couple years after hitting their peak then bouncing back a few more years later. I'm not sure what's causing that behavior, but I know it's not the mod.
That Cute Dragon May 17, 2020 @ 9:55am
I've noticed pops changing ethics/faction like crazy in 2.7.1 in vanilla (though still very slow over time as they seem to go back and forth daily). Anyone else confirm, or is this a bug? Maybe this is something to do with the recent "bug fixes"?
Zepper202  [author] May 12, 2020 @ 3:25pm
As far as I know, nothing related to how ethics attraction works has changed between 2.6 and 2.7, so yes it should work.
No Name May 12, 2020 @ 2:11pm
Does this work with 2.7?
Zepper202  [author] May 7, 2020 @ 1:30pm
Unfortunately this isn't achievement compatible
Spcike May 7, 2020 @ 12:02pm
achievment compatable or no
casual Apr 23, 2020 @ 9:34am
The uniform ethics bug doesn't seem to be a problem of this mod, i have that while the mod isn't even enabled.
Clairelenia Apr 23, 2020 @ 4:54am
@Zepper202 ... jea, it seems like ethics shift is just as always buggy and broken as hell :)) your mid simply accelerates ethics shift, but the main base of ethics shift is not influenced by suppressing a faction or predicted values.

There should be a mod that adjusts ethics to the predicted value ... maybe that would/could work

But still! I really like your mod and if ethics shifting would work correctly, it would be one of the most important mods to use!! :D
Zepper202  [author] Apr 21, 2020 @ 1:09pm
These are all weird issues. Unfortunately for me the system seems to be working fine and fairly similar to how my mod used to function, which is bad news because it means that I can't accurately tweak the mod to see how it should work for other people. I might need to hand this mod off to someone who would be able to continue refining it because I don't think I can be that person.
MT Apr 21, 2020 @ 10:24am
2.6.3 seems bugged. The pops never shift and the size of each faction does not look anything like the ethics attraction values - they are almost equal in size on pops, but the attraction are almost entirely that of the government. Something is wrong for sure.
Georgiebest Apr 19, 2020 @ 7:59am
For me pops change ethics, but they do not change to the expected distribution numbers at the top of the faction page.
Clairelenia Apr 18, 2020 @ 12:03pm
hmmm ... i dont know, my empire still does not change their ethics one bit (with and without mod) :P but maybe because im already in year 2500+

Maybe there is a rockhard point of no return in your society ... or ethics shifting is still just a broken concept

Zepper202  [author] Apr 18, 2020 @ 9:59am
So after playing with the new patch without the mod for a while it seems to be working pretty well for me. Are people still having issues with the new system or were those kinks from the beta fixed?
J0hn185 Apr 15, 2020 @ 7:18pm
@Hexagoros Nope, I've tried new games both with and without this mod. It seems not to be working in both cases. The problem seems to be that the odds calculations. Tried with one vision, edicts and even the unity edict to increase chances of ethic shifting, and it seems imposible to lower pacifism, xenophile or spiritual if you are playing the opposite ethics.
Georgiebest Apr 14, 2020 @ 10:25am
@Zepper202

From what I've seen in my games, ethics do seem able to switch ethics, but it seems to take place at a pretty glacial pace still.
키으기 Apr 12, 2020 @ 4:12pm
Thank you. I'll use it well
Liseq Apr 11, 2020 @ 9:49am
So there is no need for this mod anymore?
Hexagoros Apr 10, 2020 @ 6:31pm
@John are you running any mods that touch ethics - like any at all?
J0hn185 Apr 10, 2020 @ 3:37pm
The beta does not fix ethics shifting. It seems to be the same for me.
