After using this alongside Direct Control I can safely say that this mod is absolutely unfair. Shadowbind and Replicate are free actions. A single Spectre can singlehandedly wipe a whole squad. This one is going into the bin ASAP.

Well this mod is crazy broken if you hack a spectre and get them to shadowbind someone. After that, you just get an army of spectres capable of regeneration and shadowbinding more. The shadows will forever stay on XCOM's side as well as whatever spectres that spawns from them, even if the original hacked spectre dies. You can make an AI revolution against ADVENT.

.... it does seem like a cool idea but coming from a mission where i had to deal with four spectres.... on top that they just kept making more shadows which just kept making more spectres put me in a endless loop

Small update. Added a function to check if you are also using the Robotic Spectre Mod and if so, to allow its change to Spectre's being robotic and allowed hacking to work along with the added abilities and changes of this mod. So both mods can now be used together IF you want to be able to Hack Spectres. The Immunities write up will still read that Spectres are immune to Mental statuses (ie Hacking/mind control). That will not change for the purpose of this mod but ignore that if using the Robotic Spectre Mod :)

The new shadowbind mechanic is cool because you have to counter it differently than mind control (in most cases, turn out the alien who casted it). The self-replicating thing is a bit too much imho but is a nice idea nonetheless. It took me once 15 turns to kill two spectres and their "brethren":)
I found a dirty but easy way to disable it:

Go to My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Config in your documents directory, open the file XComGameData_SoldierSkills.ini and add the line
AbilitiesShadowCantHave=ShadowUnitSplit
below the line
[XComGame.X2Effect_SpawnShadowbindUnit]
Save and they don't split anymore.

Do not recommend if you play with Beta Strike. Makes it so the Spectre will double itself for a Shadowbinded unit, replicate the copy, and heal quite a bit, meaning it will slowly wittle down your squad while staying at peak performance and increasing.

I have lowered the encounter list to level 1, so you can get them in gatecrasher... but not sure i could handle these in gatecrasher! but love the idea of them self replicating

A warning if you intend to play Beta Strike with this mod, it makes spectres pretty much OP level since they can duplicate and the duplicates can in turn shadowbind soldiers, requiring you to kill double health spectres and soldiers as well.

I think it was intended for this mod to boost the Spectres' powers. I have faced several and had no issues. And while it is annoying dealing with their shadow bind mechanic, but I prefer this over the vanilla one. This give them an additional edge in combat.

As for "puts them on a level of a secctopod or a gatekeeper with this mod", I don't think that is the case. Sectopods and Gatekeepers are definitely stronger than this force with the mod and can wipe away a squad a lot faster if you don't move right

I am sorry you had a rough time with the mod, but the description and previous posts should have been a warning to you. This mod is meant to improve certain mechanics and increase game difficulty.

Worst fucking mod ever. No counter play to the Spectres and makes them way to powerful for a middle game unit. I would say it puts them on a level of a secctopod or a gatekeeper with this mod .

Be aware, potential downloaders, this mod is absolutely brutal. The first one I ran into shut down my campaign with a squad wipe assisted by a Armored Berseker from the EU Berserker mod.

Hey man, just wanted to let you know I ran into a small issue. Found out that you could justice a spectre but not its shadow clone. Not sure if it was an error, oversight or just bad positioning on my part. Enjoying the mod

Quick question. Will this mod work with the A Stronger Advent Mod (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1728797464) . It is mostly an addon mod for ABA, but may impact this and the revamp mods.

I thought that might be the case. I don't suppose you would consider adding similar vulnerabilities to this mod? I like your changes but I consider the electrical damaging abilities against a robotic enemy as a fair mechanic. Also I think the two changes combined would make for a very well balanced enemy.

well the explanation to that is that the end of the game is too easy in vannila, your soldiers vastly outperform all of the alien units, so we use mods to increase the difficulty, alas it also increases the difficulty of the early game which is already the hardest part

Just ran a mission with a spectre with this mod active. Daayum, son... these things are damn terrifying. Definitely a challenge for people who are running campaigns balanced for 8+ man squads. Cool stuff!

tryed it today, spotted 2 spectres and 2 of my soldiers get shadow binded.. mission lost! xD holy shit.
