As a starbound player who has subscribed to too many mods, I don't think the crashes caused by updates are too bad compared to mod conflicts. I haven't played starbound for three months now, just waiting for an update and opening a new save
Yes and yes.
Nothing you did wrong I assure you. My game decided to soil the bedsheets when I had to do a fresh install of the game and mods to fix another issue. Now a bunch of mods are having errors, from missing item recipes to crashing maps when a modded ore or monster fails to spawn. Fixed a few errors by reinstalling mods, but some couldn't be fixed. Working on transferring bases using WEdit to fresh vanilla maps made without the mods installed, but after I did that, I had to reinstall those mods to lower chances of them crashing from something. Main concern now is if my replacement maps will be affected by this mod spawning demon monsters on them now. Once I remove the legacy mod, which I plan to do when I update, I don't want my new maps to be corrupted due to demon monsters no longer existing. Unless of course oSB can prevent this?
Wait, how is this the legacy version having issues spawning demon monsters? Nothing about them has been changed in years?
Yes, you should. This mod doesn't just add the Angel race, but also villages, random encounters, a teleport location, and a unique mission. All of these will break when the "update" comes, because it's not an update. The entire mod will be remade from scratch and this one will be removed and the new one uploaded instead.
Heya. In the overhaul update you'll be able to choose between Angel or Demon. However, the Ruined Angel "race" will be NPC only. Though I have no qualms with someone making a mod to enable them! It's just not something I will do, myself.
Unfortunately the Legacy Version will not be updated with a way to counter it, but the overhaul will. However, that being said, even in the Legacy Version they should only show up maybe between... 45-60 minutes?
thanks
You have to complete the main story (vanilla), and then the angel near the Ark will have a quest...!
Thank you for your patience!
Amazing, its understandable that the Tier 5 would require more time to be added, but Im grateful to know that Tier 5 vanilla equipment will be available to the angels in the future, you are amazing, and hopefully we will see the mix of aegisalt bow and holy bow.
I could add the generic vanilla craftable weapons to the races, yeah. Unfortunately I don't have plans for T5+ weapons to be introduced right away with the initial overhaul update, but they will be re-added with time. Along with other content that will be reintroduced: encounters, lore, etc... All in due time!!
Complain (verb): To express dissatisfaction or annoyance about something. - Source: Literally googling it.
You told the author not to change the IDs because it would "nuke every planet". That is you openly expressing that you don't like the fact that the IDs will be changed. As such, you were indeed complaining.
And you know what?
In recent times, before all this, I came to be embarrassed about the current version of this mod. It didn't feel true to my current skill level. But ever since I've been working on the overhaul, it reignited my passion and I'm so excited to continue the future of this mod.
I even explain further in the mod description above.
This is why the legacy version is available as a pak file so people can safely unsubscribe from the Steam version and not get any future changes. If someday they want to try the overhaul, they'll have to handle it one way or another on their own. Perhaps they can test it on Starbound Unstable? Or maybe by then they'll be willing to reset? Who knows.
All I know is that telling me over and over again that things will break is... pointless. I realize that. I'm not over here celebrating. It was a very hard decision.
You're complaining about something we've been warned of. The IDs are gonna change, the two versions will not be compatible. That's how things are, and we'll just have to live with it.
Well, I've been working on it for a bit, but it isn't a huge amount of progress. I'm 18% done right now, and that's just a bunch of small easy tasks...
When I first started, a script I made predicted at least A YEAR.
So, based on the amount of progress I make each week... That still seems to be true...?
Angel characters, absolutely. Planets? If they have Angel encounters/dungeons, most likely. And since it adds custom monsters... that are added to planet spawn pools... Yeah. That too.
I have a section for that in the description, lol.
It exists so that people can still enjoy the mod before/after the update and such. If I do that, it completely takes most of the mod away.
You cannot transition from legacy to overhaul by just removing encounters. Very important IDs will change - it's pretty much a guaranteed reset unless you know what you're doing to preserve characters during the switch.
If you're asking to have Legacy content in the overhaul to prevent crashing, that goes against the whole point of the overhaul: no remnants of old organization/the former mod left.
Thank you for the suggestion, though.
That's actually also what I prefer for everyone else to do as well, lol.
My older mods are pretty bad in their current state anyways...
That's a fair way to look at it, yeah.
Hallowed is right up there with the Angels, because it was my first ever planet mod.
So, thankfully, this does mean there's a chance not every single old mod of mine will cause severe character/universe issues with their eventual overhaul update. But, I'll have to update the users of whichever mod I'm working on if it's really fine or not. I'll get there when I get there!
Hello!
Cosmic Husbandry just needs sprite changes, some minor design/mod direction changes, and other tiny things; extremely small stuff. That mod will be fine!
The Nebulac Race is questionable, but I may be able to rebuild them without breaking any saves. At most, some items may be removed, and some object IDs changed, but that just causes the game to crash once to turn items into PGIs. After that, it's fine. I'll let the users of that mod know eventually.
Starry Planets mostly needs sprite updates, actually! It's newer, so the file organization and prefixes are good, it's just outdated in terms of looks.
The Angels of Starbound is the most egregious because of its age. Like I've said before, this was created in 2018/2019!
That's great!
Going through the ol' files, it seems they are only available via finding them in encounters?
You could always just spawn them, though!
