Wouldn't it solve a lot of problems to make this replace the stable instead of granary? Drop the maintenance cost and horse resource requirement, up the production bonus back to 2, and keep the +2 food bonus as well as the bonus to cows, sheep, horses, and bison.

You could also add +1 production to bison, since bison ranches do exist, but if you do you might need to drop the +15% mounted unit production bonus to balance it out.

These changes would solve the awkward flavor/fluff conflicts like having ancient era banana ranches.

Great mod - THX

I've finally bothered updating this to now include Bison in the list of affected resources. I've also cut the production bonus from +2 to +1 for balance. A unique this early getting such a bonus was a little too good.

@mobrown
Done for gameplay because I didn't want to remove from Granary's list, only expand it. Also done because ranches do, as the description says, sometimes raise plants to feed the animals.

Banana ranch? Really?

This building to me is a very fun double edged sword. While the food and production is nice, there is the possibility of overgrowth the the point where you stop growth in order to keep the happiness. While there is nothing wrong with the building itself I actually think this building should be unlocked at Horseback Riding. It makes sense and allows the working of luxuries and other preparations for this building. Just a minor suggestion as it only delays the building of this UB. Thanks for the mod. ;)

That's a known and unfortunately common error with Steam Workshop and Civ 5. The issue is that the game has already added the mods to its database and thus thinks it downloaded them, but it didn't actually do that. To fix it, you need to delete the mods database, which forces the game to reevaluate which mods it actually has and download the missing ones. The only negative consequence is that this "unchecks" all of your mods, so it's not dangerous to do, just annoying to have to do.

Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\cache
In that folder is a file named "Civ5ModsDatabase.db" Delete that file and ONLY that file and then start the game back up and enter the mods menu. I've had to do this at least twice before for mods that refused to download for me. It's annoying, but at least you'll know how to fix it in the future.

I can't get this mod and amercian tourism to download. I had the ranch before and ive tried unsubscribing and resub restarting game restarting game plus waiting has been about 3 days now ive been trying to get it back on m od list plus the american tourism trait. any ideas??? also if you make another unique ability mod for america. please give them free social policy every era. america has been about laws and policies as much as poland ever was... if not i still like the ranch and trait you already have and wish i could figure out why they will not download. i got a bunch of your other mods... peristyle ect... but i really want to start playing with america just wish i knew how to mod the ability. i cant find the xml for polands UA anywhere i find a bunch of other civs UA's in the xml of the game on my computer but for some reason the very thing i want the polish unique ability is alluding me?????/

I like the idea, but I second that it should be a stable replacement, in which case it should add +1 food and +1 hammer per sheep, horse, cattle, or deer. Maybe I should edit the lua to accomplish this..

I second Sapphire Bullet's idea, a Ranch should be a Stable replacement.

Oh snap! Thanks for the info. It might unbalance some civs but make it more fun to play them.

@Crayola's Colored Pencils
That was done for balance because nobody's supposed to have three uniques. If you want to keep it though, it's as simple as deleting the code that removes the unit. Open up AmericaTheBeautiful.xml in Notepad and just delete the section that removes the B17. I comment most of my mods (this one I know I did) to make it easier for anyone else who wants to edit them, so there won't be any trouble knowing which section to delete.
Your mods folder will likely be "Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS"

I would download if only they didn't remove the previous UUs. Otherwise these are great mods.

I'd have thought a Ranch would make a bit more sense as a replacement for the Stable.
Also, this looks kind of powerful as a replacement for the Granary.

Ok, thanks I'll give that a try.

Sometimes tossing your game's cache files out does the trick.
Keukotis  [author] Aug 4, 2013 @ 12:32am
Extremely common problem with Civ V and the Workshop. Happens with all mods and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it.

Can't get it to show up so I can check it and use it.
