so i've seen both your posts from here and game banana, i think i like the idea of a medic engineer, but what i really came for was that dispenser on his back, i've been thinking of a portable dispenser as a heavy weapon and the showing of the functional screen actually gave me the idea of giving the dispenser more usage then just refilling engineer metal, if you'd like i could tell you how it would work

2010 was the year the engineer update came out though, so the "dispenser gun" could have been yet another scrapped weapon concept for that update, just like the repair node.

Basically, I'm trying to pin down which Workshop model could have been intended to be the "Dispenser Gun" that didn't get added officially. Initially I had found this submission, but then I also found the original Provisioner created by Vomitrocious, a Minigun for the Heavy which was uploaded to the Workshop in 2012. There is a chance that Vomitrocious submitted his model to Valve via their email at some point in 2010 or earlier, when the Workshop wasn't a thing. I haven't gotten in touch with him yet to see if he did indeed submit it to Valve earlier or not.

There's a TF_WEAPON string that was added to the engine in 2010, but no weapon was actually assigned to it. It was initially found in the tf2_stocks.inc file in SourceMod (which is a system used for making server plugins for Source engine games) which contains global defines based on things in the engine so that plugins can interface with things. It also turned up in the recent TF2 source code leak. I've documented it on https://tcrf.net/Development:Team_Fortress_2#Dispenser_Gun

My question is this: when was this model originally created? 2018? Or was this made either in, or before 2010 and just not uploaded here until 2018?

I actually like this concept, engi sacrifices his only decent form of personal protection to be a bigger asset to the team, if a spy attacks him on his way to ammo or his actual dispenser, he only has 2 formes of defence, his secondary (which can't be the wrangler or else engie would only have his melee to defend himself) and his melee,

@Mrteapot I've actually heard this criticism a lot. However, I'd like to point out 2 key differences between the Provisioner and the Medigun:[olist]
[*]the Provisioner can't overheal, and [*]the Provisioner has no ubercharge[/olist]
These 2 traits are what make medic so good, and as long as the provisioner doesn't have them, it will never be as good as the medigun.
also, having it just deploy metal would make the weapon underpowered, as dispensers both heal and supply. making the provisioner unable to heal would make the engineer less effective at supporting his team as an engineer with a level 1 dispenser, especially since dispensers are also capable of healing multiple targets at once.

a lot of people are comenting about the model and texture. while I admit that there is room for improvement, I just want to throw in my 2 cents:
re-using textures is easier on the game engine by reducing the number of textures it has to load.
lower-resolution models are also more computer-friendly. that said, if any of you want to improve the model or make a texture for it, feel free; there's a link to the model in the description. just try not to deviate too far away from the original design concept (concept art is also on the model page)

Good idea, but I don't know about the execution... While it will turn the Engineer into a mobile support, the loss of the Shotgun would be a massive problem for any Engineer, and just to become a portable level 1 Dispenser? I don't think it's a good trade. These are just my thoughts though.

It would be cool if it fired a bolt like the rescue ranger does, and is like a crusaders crossbow bolt, but with ammo not health, and the bolt looked like a Rescue ranger bolt with a section of the ammo strap-on whatever that the heavy has.

I agree. While the idea itself is good, the model needs some touchups and you would probably be better off remaking the textures rather than using Valve's default, blurry lo-res textures. This will also benefit you as Valve will be less likely to accept a submission that uses their own textures like this.

I think this model really could use some hard edges and a better quality texture as well as a few design optimalizations. Maybe take this to the tf2 outlet or tf2 workshop emporium (either the discord or the facepunch forum), I am sure they'll help you make this a valve quality weapon
