I really enjoy the lower levels personally.

@Tigerwalker - We feel this style of progression provides a different feel to operating campaigns in FR and on NWN and the dev team has built the server with the focus on bringing the magic setting lower for the region we are in. Mostly a preference thing.

It's forgotten realms....Why is it low magic and low level?

@LucidRaven - Yes, those are in currently.

Are you going to be adding Alternate Combat Animations to this?

By on par I mean have the same relative combat capability, you'd still have spells too which may give an edge in such a scenario.. but it overall brings classes like cleric and other spell casters down a peg which is good from the usual over-used builds.
Lady Crimson (RIP) Nov 17, 2018 @ 10:37am
Another example would be cleric/fighter.

With 20 you could have 4 fighter/16 cleric and have 16 BA (enough for all 4 attacks), have weapon specialization, and still get 8th level spells.

With 18 in order to get 4 basic attacks (ignoring spells, two weapon fighting, ect.) you'd need to be 8 cleric, 10 fighter.

You'd instead be shunted all the way down to 4th level spells to continue to be relatively on par with a pure classed warrior type.

So there is a huge difference in terms of balance work, which is in favor of a more interesting setting.
Lady Crimson (RIP) Nov 17, 2018 @ 10:31am
For example I could be 17 cleric, 3 rogue, and it would have both 9th level spells, and full use of tumble ac spread out over the levels and the additional d6 sneak.

But instead I'm 16 cleric, 2 rogue. The bare minimum for evasion that I wanted, I lose out on my 9th level spells and have to decide how long I want to wait for tumble/evasion and use of skill points.

It gives you another level to think out what is worth sacrificing for your class, and gives pure classed characters a bit more of an edge, if a marginal one. Which I think is good for balance.

Actually it works out pretty well to make you decide between cross classing and getting level 9 spells.

The powergamer side of me hates giving up 9th level spells, but it is really good for balance.

Wye level cap 18 and not 20? the level 18 gives me the air of something unfinished imperfect ... I do not know to me these "indefinite" levels I do not like ... but we see everything and yet to be decided the relase and very far.

@Vanilla - From our tests you should only need to Subscribe and the files will be downloaded to your PC and ready for log-in without any additional effort on your end.

Does this require any sort of scripting or editing with game files? I love how it looks but I don't know anything about editing files or anything smart like that.

@CatTastic -

3) The reasoning behind not restricting Monk/Cleric is the following. Mechanically: We are tweaking Monks to push back some of the stronger reasons to dip into monk (Evasion at 2, Cleave at 3). Additionally, being a level 18 max server it helps with reducing some of the strength of that particular build. Setting: Many of the orders either allow or encourage Cleric multi-classing.

I hope that helps! If you have any additional questions feel free to ask!

@CatTastic - Thanks for taking a look! Responses below:

1) With the addition of Bladesinger we felt we would be including two PRCs that were elven-restricted and since the lack of an "Archer-style" PRC we made the tweak to Arcane Archer. We didn't make such a change with Dwarven Defender for example as we had not added anything to this point that was Dwarf restricted. (We could further restrict the class with additional feats that have emphasis on Archery but haven't made that step at this time.)
2) Wording is inappropriate for the reasoning behind the restrictions. Fair point, we'll tweak that as the reason has nothing to do with the setting and is focused on balance.
