UPDATE: My update to the old mod is now live, and essentially replaces this one/makes it obsolete. I'll leave it up though.
Eternantium  [author] Jun 4, 2021 @ 4:09am
Alas....I don't know why this has happened
But I did dig up an older, 2012 Sicilian mod and updated it to work in the new patch! It's a little broken but, it seems to work so far.
I may post it, but I wasn't the one who made the original.

I have a problem. When ever I try to play this culture, I get a bug in the ruler designer where I can't choose any of the lifestyle trait without the game crashing... any idea why this is happening?

Have been looking for a Sicilian culture mod that does all this for a while! Love this
Eternantium  [author] Apr 9, 2020 @ 7:41pm
@Le_Guiscard That would indeed be very helpful! I'll probably be making a separate mod rather than updating this one, but either way the help would be nice and very appreciated! Message me any time.
Le_Guiscard Apr 9, 2020 @ 11:43am
I specialized in Medieval history and did a few research papers on Norman Sicily if you need help with researching parts of the religion.
Eternantium  [author] Feb 18, 2020 @ 10:30am
I'll keep that in mind if I ever get around to making a new/replacement mod. I'll probably do that when I finally have access to Holy Fury. I'm just now getting back into the game, and honestly a blend of Greek (Byzantine) and Arabic sounds quite "badass".

If you have any ideas on how this culture could work please let me know.

Sicilian culture (prior to the rule of the Hohenstaufens and the expulsion of all Muslims on the island) was primarily Greek and Arabic. There was a certain degree of Italian influence but the unique Sicilian culture you're talking about here was definitely not a primarily Latin culture.
Titan Darwin Sep 7, 2019 @ 11:14am
The buildings I was talking about are in the file with the name 00_CastleCulture.

There's a building for German and French cultures; you can probably just add the Sicilian culture to the list there.
Eternantium  [author] Sep 6, 2019 @ 8:27pm
Oh okay!
Well, to tell the truth, I found it difficult to find a large number of Sicilian/Neapolitan names, so, I would appreciate a source where I can find some to use
Saffronharp5137 Sep 5, 2019 @ 4:21am
yes
Eternantium  [author] Sep 4, 2019 @ 1:17am
No, it probably isn't.
And I will update with the titles soon.
Or
Do you mean the individual/person names?
Saffronharp5137 Sep 2, 2019 @ 3:07pm
and it is Ironman compatible???
Saffronharp5137 Sep 2, 2019 @ 3:05pm
Hello there,I love this mod but there is a problem, there aren't sicilian names.So... you can add it searching it on Google
Eternantium  [author] Aug 26, 2019 @ 12:07pm
Alright
Titan Darwin Aug 26, 2019 @ 11:58am
I'll check the files and get back to you when I find out.
Eternantium  [author] Aug 26, 2019 @ 10:36am
1) Well considering they represent South Italians (like in Vic 2), that's basically a good thing. I don't own the DLC yet.
2) Where should I go to add such a building?
Titan Darwin Aug 26, 2019 @ 9:51am
So far my test game didn't crash, though I noticed two things:
1) Armies controlled by Siclian rulers do use the Italian models if you own the DLC
2) Sicilian culture currently doesn't have a cultural military building. Considering they have knights, maybe giving them the same building as the Normans/French etc would be a good idea?
Eternantium  [author] Aug 25, 2019 @ 8:44am
Okay! I updated it for the new patch!
All the cultures should be available now! I don't know what to do about the crashing, though. If it will still be an issue. This could have been it! lol
Eternantium  [author] Aug 24, 2019 @ 1:45pm
Oof.
I didn't realize Sardinian wasn't a HF-thing. Yeah. That's the downside to this mod. Sicilian has to be in the latin group, but as a result any new cultures added to the main file will not be compatible with the mod.

And yeah, I don't know how to fix the crashing either. I'll look into it, but as an inexperienced modder I don't know what to do most of the time lol. I'll try and update the culture though! I recall there being more than just Sardinian added in recently though.
Titan Darwin Aug 24, 2019 @ 12:40am
The main issues I found while testing the outdated version is that a) the culture list changed since the last update (they added Sardinian etc), so now some areas don't have a culture and b) that at some points the game just plain crashes.

Haven't quite figured out what causes the crashes yet.

And to be honest, I think a lot of us would probably just happy with an update that made the mod compatible with the current patch state, even if you don't have any new ideas for it. :)
Eternantium  [author] Aug 23, 2019 @ 7:09pm
Gah, I am awful add multi-tasking. And honestly not having HF yet is what's keeping me from really updating this. That and a lack of ideas.
Titan Darwin Aug 23, 2019 @ 12:34pm
Btw is an update for this mod planned in the near future?
Eternantium  [author] Aug 12, 2019 @ 2:38am
IDK if I have that DLC model or not, but you're free to DIY and added it into the mod if I can't, since I do not have all the DLC
Titan Darwin Jul 8, 2019 @ 4:15am
Right now Sicilians use the generic European troop models - would it be possible to make them maybe use the Italian ones (provided the user has the respective DLC)?
Eternantium  [author] Jun 13, 2019 @ 1:50am
Sorry guys, haven't been on the game in a while. Sorry to hear about these technical issues, I'll try to fix them, though I'm a very beginner modder, so it may take a while. Do let me know what might be the problem I need to fix.

And yes, I may update it further. I don't know if it's compatible with other mods like better looking garbs or anything like that. I suppose not? Depends on what BLG alters.
KingDavid Jun 8, 2019 @ 12:16pm
I have two questions:
1. Would this mod be compatible with the better looking garbs mod?

2. Will this mod be updated?
Mr Serb Apr 4, 2019 @ 2:32pm
Selecting sicilian in the ruler designer causes the game to crash
Silva Feb 22, 2019 @ 8:03am
every time i hire a commander or other courtist the game crashes...
celestialmelon Feb 2, 2019 @ 5:42am
Thank you for the update, and enjoy playing Holy Fury!
Eternantium  [author] Nov 18, 2018 @ 3:41pm
Thanks! Gonna look into that for the next update.

And yeah, I know that. Thing is that I don't have the new file is why I asked. I don't have the money to get HF right now.

Once more, thanks for the directions (so to speak)
Fallsondoor Nov 18, 2018 @ 3:36pm
under Crusader Kings II\common\buildings you want CastleCulture and tribalCulture the hard part is that the description and the building name need to be localised (like pretty much everything you name).

the sicilian culture can be copied straight from the old culture file into the new one.

Crusader Kings II\common\combat_tactics is where tactics can be found the cultural tactics are down the botom, i suggest Ctrl + F 'culture' to find them

Crusader Kings II\common\retinue_subunits is where you can add retinue, i have not been able to do this yet

i sent you a friend request so that i can pm you, gotta get back to work
Eternantium  [author] Nov 18, 2018 @ 12:59pm
Oh wow, thanks! I appreciate the help! I updated the mod just today though, changing retinue to the Norman/French Knights) but, I'd be more than happy to see whatever you got! Would also be great if I could get help making the culture file work with HF - all I'd need is the text of the culture file.

And that sounds like a fine set of ideas. Where would I go to mod cultural buildings and the like? I think I considered trying to mod buildings, only I ended up getting confused. And also modding a tactic in? Intriguing! I've never really tried modding such things yet.
Fallsondoor Nov 18, 2018 @ 12:13pm
i could send over what i wrote if you want
Fallsondoor Nov 18, 2018 @ 12:12pm
it's all good, i know even less admittedly, a cultural building and retinue that use light infantry and cavalry stylized after the Tibetan one could work, 6 distinct cultures had control over the region so anything goes really.

I can suggest naming the cultural tactic Sicilian Defense (a chess move that brakes the symmetry of the board on blacks first turn)

i did some fiddling in the code last night and the only thing i couldn't get working was the retinue (possibly the tactic too)
Eternantium  [author] Nov 18, 2018 @ 7:19am
This mod was made slightly before HF was released. It still needs to be updated. I don't have Holy Fury, so I don't have the file with all of it's cultures. Due to that, whenever new cultures are added this mod is going to make them not exist. The only way to fix this would be to take the new culture file, add sicilian to it, and replace the mod's file with the new one. Unless it's possible to make a separate file but still have Sicilian in the same group. I'm sure a lot of culture mods are going to be the same way until they are updated. If someone wants to help me out with this I'd gladly appreciate it.

And I didn't really think of a culture building, I had no idea what it would be.

When I go back in the game I will update the mod again.

I'm not that experienced in modding yet.
Fallsondoor Nov 17, 2018 @ 7:15pm
was the lack of 'allow_looting = yes' by 'seafarer = yes' intentional

HF added in new cultures such as dalmatian, this mod causes them to defult too noculture
the culture building was also not set up
Eternantium  [author] Oct 8, 2018 @ 10:38am
Thanks, I will update the mod soon (been trying to work on other projects atm). I will update it with a new colour for the culture and now will add in them using the Norman/French retinue instead. Thanks for the suggestion!
Mamlagaut Oct 2, 2018 @ 12:10pm
Yeah, i meant it by the fact norman forces were generally equipped by western (aka Norman) standards, but i am happy to help, this is a great mod for those who enoy playing as the Hautevilles.
Eternantium  [author] Oct 2, 2018 @ 1:01am
So you mean the knights that the Normans use? Is that what you mean?
I wasn't sure what they used historically, just kinda used the pikemen as a placeholder unless I found something more accurate.
Thanks for the suggestion
Mamlagaut Oct 1, 2018 @ 2:54pm
You should make the units western european, since i don't think italian style units fit the armies of the region.
