Just a heads up, Various Mod Components has been uploaded to steam workshop, so you no longer have to download it manually.
I would still recommend doing so, just for assortment of QoF and balance mini-mods there

I looked into the GlobalDefines.xml and I cannot find "MAXIMUM_WORK_PLOT_DISTANCE" in it. It makes me think that part is hardcoded in; speaking as a guy who knows jack squat about coding. There might be ways around it, but I'll keep fiddling around.

A small update: There are two things in the xml.xml file of this mode. There is one: "PLOT_BASE_COST" which I have seen through and that one works on my end. The other thing describes the "MIN_CITY_RANGE" which I haven't tested, but the fact the first component functions tells me this mod does at least to a point function.

The rub is in the cityWorkDistance.sql file which has the 'MAXIMUM_BUY_PLOT_DISTANCE', and 'MAXIMUM_WORK_PLOT_DISTANCE' stuff going on. Though both has the SET Value=5. Even with those, I am struggling to make them work. I'm going to fiddle a little more with the code and see if I can make something cool happen or not.

I'm of the mind to update it myself for my own amusement, but I don't exactly know what lines of code to change to make it happen and such. I see a "MAXIMUM_WORK_PLOT_DISTANCE" line in the mod's .sql file whose value is set to 5. I wonder if that, or some other line changed fundamentally with the last update in the base game so that they aren't reading from each other?

My resources are limited as I am using a Mac and not a Windows machine, but is there a glossary of terms for modding the dimensions of things in Civilization V?

I 2nd the vote to have this mod updated. I love the idea of this mod and it would be MUCH easier to plan city building to capture resources and such with settlers instead of trying to capture cities be it from City-states or AI Civ only to either fail trying to capture or be set upon by the other AI civs.

Yeah I only get the 3 tiles away. I have the DLL in my game, but I also read that the mod is okay with Community Patcher? Which I have to ask, why even use the DLL if it does work with the latter? Is that for people who don't use it, or is there a different reason?

I actually have both mods running because it doesn't seem to crash or anything, and it still mentions when Settlers are too close. But I still just got basic tile space.

This mod has stopped working ..... When the Industrial Age is reached, the game will shutdown. It is not possible that the player or the AI ​​first reached this era. Can you fix or recommend the same mod that works?

Yeah I put the DLL files in my mods folder and in game when I try to enable it I get an error of "mod is missing required dependencies"

Thanks for the clarification. I looked into it and came up with more or less the same conclusion, unless I use a workaround to script multiples together, and that is, honestly, more work than it's worth to me. I don't use the Community Patch, but breaking other things in its place to solve the issue at hand doesn't make things much easier.
I spoke too soon, as I just did the same thing with the modpack as is standard with every other manually installed mod (I was confused at first since it didn't appear to be an archive, but I should have known better) and it worked seamlessly (although I chose not to continue using it).

@King Manatee There'd need to be a DLL edit one way or another, and you can only have one of those at a time. It's not feasible for me to make this mod break everything else - particularly the Community Patch DLL - just for such a small feature. It can't be implemented with just a database update in the base game.

If you're wondering how to install Various Mod Components, simply download the .civ5mod file and place it in the MODS folder - usually in C:/Users/<your username>/Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/MODS/. If it doesn't load the first time you can either use 7zip to unzip it or manually rename the file to .zip and extract it that way.

It's a pity there isn't a mod that expands working radius without relying on external dependencies. Can't even see how the file is meant to be implemented on the website, as all of the documentation pages come up blank. There used to be a standalone mod to do this.

The free aqueduct from finishing tradition does not appear using this mod the Various Mod Components DLL linked and IGE (which doesn't have the issue on its own). It's a small price to pay, but it would be really nice to have it work if possible. Thanks for the great mod.

@dninemfive I have been using it with a few other mods and it still allows my cities to spread to 5 hexes, but it no longer prevents cities founding within 5 tiles of each other, so the games are getting as cluttered as ever with AI cities.

@Tonywoks Are you launching the game from the main menu or the mod submenu? After enabling it in the mods section, you must continue into the specific modded game menu instead of the main menu.

@ci The Community Patch works as a prerequisite for this mod, and I believe it already contains C4DF. If it doesn't, the full CBP does, though I don't like all their balance changes, personally.

If not, I'm fairly sure there's a way to do it, but I don't know how.
