@david we have balanced the game's difficulty over close to a thousand test cases. The Spear is so cheap because it's a suboptimal weapon and is not very good at using effort to inflict wounds. If you find yourself with too much effort - consider doing some Planning and channeling a bit of it into Cunning - it could be useful both for scouting the monsters and for Combat actions (like getting rid of the Ogre's armor). Thanks for playing!

Okay - although I got the spear at the beginning of the third level again, I did not win on my second game. I didn't "peek", and got the ogre for level 4. The armor took too long to penetrate, and I had converted too much Small effort to Med and Lg. Still, I think if I had studied the six level 4 monsters, and/or spent the effort to peek at the monster ahead of the battle, it would have been too easy to win. In short, I think the spear is too cheap to build. -- Again, this is only my second game though. What are others' thoughts on the balance?
david 27. mar. 2018 kl. 12:19
I found the scoring at the end a little odd. Small effort is worth 0, so it is wise to convert as much as you (safely) can into medium effort before the final battle - but don't make more Large Effort than you'll need in that battle because that would hurt you during scoring. (Large Effort costs 2 medium efforts to create, but it is only worth 5 points at the end, while 2 Medium efforts are worth 6) The converting of small effort to medium effort before the final battle seems like a hoop that the players shouldn't have to go through. What about counting each small effort as 1, medium effort as 4, and large effort as 8, which is proportional to their costs during gameplay?

I've only played through once so far (and won), so maybe my experience was unusual, but...
I made the spear very early in the third level. Therefore, I found there was little for me to do in levels 3 and 4 but to rest up in order to create lots of effort (of the three types) so I was sure to win the two remaining fights. I found that to be less than ideal, story-wise. Anyone else have this experience? Maybe I just got lucky finding all the resources needed to create the weapons.

@Carrot - Thanks! Solid recommendation, I've seen this come up a lot where people think character abilities are unlimited use. Will definitely bring it up in the rulebook!

also cool game design looking forward to see it develop! :steamhappy:

I think its advisable to put the bit about how using character skills uses the cubes on the character sheet higher up, until i got the sage it diddnt even occur to me that they had limited uses since prepatory step states you can use general skills as many times as you wanted with no mention of the character limitation

Gren.del 17. dec. 2017 kl. 11:10
I'd suggest adding the rules in-game, via a "tablet" component with the rules' link :)

See this on TTS Spotlight and thought I'd try it out, watched the play through had one quick game to get the basics and I like it very much. Will play more games and fill in the feedback form. Thank you.
