@ƦƴѵŁ: to switch from Steam Workshop SMIM to Nexus SMIM, you can simply unsubscribe from the Steam Workshop version then install the Nexus version. You could keep the Workshop version and *also* install from Nexus. It wouldn't break anything, but it would be redundant and take more disk space. Don't worry about the in-game warning when you unsubscribe from the Steam Workshop version that says 'Some .esp files couldn't be loaded.'

To give more details, the Workshop version is contained in two single files: the StaticMeshImprovementMod.esp and StaticMeshImprovementMod.bsa. The .bsa file contains all the art like meshes and textures.

The Nexus version is a 'loose files' version where the meshes and textures are installed to your Skyrim\Data\ folder, along with the .esp files you choose during installation (most users use SMIM-Merged-All.esp for a full SMIM install).

So the two versions don't overwrite each other. I hope this information helps. Thanks for using SMIM!

First, I'd like to say thank you for the amazing work you've done. Secondly, if I downloaded the files here and I'm trying to slowing convert everything through nexus, would this cause any errors if I just downloaded from Nexus and "replaced" all the files to latest version or should I remove the old files via Steam first?

@Kad: thanks for telling me. I've fixed the URL, and I've added a link to the Special Edition version of SMIM for those who play the Special Edition.

I like to delete this mod every once in a while so i get used to ugly skyrim again and can appreciate it more
Brumbek  [author] Oct 16, 2024 @ 8:39pm
@Ermitaum: Thank you so much! It certainly was a labor of love over many years. I'm thankful so many players are still enjoying my beloved SMIM, even 12+ years later! All the best to you!

PS: I love your Embers mini-background and Dark Souls avatar. Very cool!
Ermitaum Oct 15, 2024 @ 10:47pm
This must have been a Herculian labor of love! OMG, congratulatons are in order here! My hat's off to you, sir!
Toothless Aug 4, 2024 @ 2:34pm
this feels like normal skyrim now. i forgot i had this mod and was wondering why my friend's skyrim looked so bad
Brumbek  [author] Jan 20, 2024 @ 12:42pm
@Robin, glad you got it downloaded on Skyrim Nexus. Actually, I misspoke about Skyrim Legendary Edition. This Workshop version of SMIM works on Original Skyrim (2011) and the Legendary Edition (2013). It's the Special Edition (2016) and Anniversary Edition (2021) that are a product on Steam and don't use the Steam Workshop. For people using those two versions, you can download SMIM from the in-game mod browser or Skyrim Nexus Special Edition page. Confusing, I know!

@Brumbek

I AM playing on LE! No wonder it showed an error on LOOT 😅 I went to Nexus and got it there, and I have 0 problems now ^^ thanks!
Robin Jan 13, 2024 @ 6:34am
I downloaded this, why does it say that it's meant for Oblivion and not skyrim :blastshot:
Toothless Nov 30, 2023 @ 8:50pm
this mod became so natural to me i forgot its not part of the base game. feels wrong without it. i randomly find myself going "damn this wood/rope/iron/stone looks good"
Brumbek  [author] Nov 16, 2023 @ 9:12pm
@J-P: thanks much for the nice comment! I'm very grateful that so many people are still using SMIM after so many years. All the best to you!
J-P Nov 13, 2023 @ 1:55am
Still one of the best mods ever created. Gives a great improvement to Skyrim outlook.
Brumbek  [author] Jul 11, 2023 @ 9:46pm
@salleatlet: the Nexus version is more up-to-date, but the differences are small. But if you want everything, you can unsubscribe on Steam and then download the Nexus version, like you said. Thanks for using SMIM.
salleatlet Jul 9, 2023 @ 1:10pm
Just a question. I'm subscribing this version, which I guess is 2.03? According to LOOT I have a old version and I should update. On Nexus it say's that the latest version is 2.08. So should I unsubscribe here and download the on from Nexus instead? Or are they the same versions?
Brumbek  [author] Oct 9, 2022 @ 1:43pm
@jayaitch: thanks! It's wonderful to see SMIM still being downloaded by so many people year after year. Best wishes to all SMIM users!
jayaitch Oct 9, 2022 @ 4:44am
Excellent mod. Makes Skyrim look a lot better. Thanks.

Brumbek  [author] Nov 19, 2021 @ 1:22pm
@TC: Ignore that. I'm not sure why Vortex reports that. Thanks!
TC Nov 16, 2021 @ 7:30am
I'm also seeing a warning in Vortex Mod Manager that this file is intended for Oblivion - is this a known issue? Can it be ignored?
Brumbek  [author] Oct 16, 2021 @ 9:18pm
@SeaMonkey: The different SMIM 'parts' are from VERY old Steam Workshop versions of SMIM back when mods had a file size cap. Nobody should be using any 'part' .esp files anymore. The Steam Workshop version just uses StaticMeshImprovementMod.esp I believe. The Nexus version has multiple .esp files, but most players will use SMIM-Merged-All.esp for the Nexus version.

So ignore any warnings about missing 'SMIM-part 2.esp'. And make sure you've got the latest version of SMIM here on the Steam Workshop. Thanks for using my mod!
SeaMonkey Oct 15, 2021 @ 9:41pm
I am reworking my mod list on MO2. It keeps saying I am missing SMIM-part 2.esp. Did you combine them into one at some point? Where can I find the part 2 esp?
Brumbek  [author] Jul 11, 2021 @ 9:02pm
@DrKizzMe: just ignore that. Not sure why you'd get a flag about that. SMIM files are all Skyrim format. Thanks!
MegaSkyHammer Jul 10, 2021 @ 8:31pm
hey i keep getting a flag from a N.M.M about a file meant for oblivion instead of skyrim
Arienrhog Jul 10, 2021 @ 10:10am
I was playing skyrim for fun now it's for observe the landscape.

Brumbek  [author] Nov 6, 2020 @ 8:40pm
@QrX: the install order for SMIM and the Official High-Res DLC doesn't matter. Both work fine with each other, and SMIM always replace certain textures from both the base game and Official High-Res DLC. Thanks for using SMIM.
V!cks Oct 31, 2020 @ 2:43pm
Hi
Thanks for this great mod i am using for a long time working on my old computer.
But i discovered the HD texture official DLC and i was wondering if it still works with it and where is the best order to load it if it does.
Thanks again for this job !
Daddelmatz Aug 18, 2020 @ 10:48am
In the video you say "Don't come here. I'm crazy" I had to laugh so much :)

Yes the mod is cool. 1000 small things and each one worked out well. Thank you so much!

I also tried a mod, but somehow I couldn't handle it. An "all-in-one workshop", but opening lids, nice ropes, bones - I never paid attention to it!

I always go there now and take a very close look :)
Brumbek  [author] Aug 17, 2020 @ 4:20pm
@Black Rose: thanks for using SMIM. I hope you enjoy your time modding Skyrim! Such a special game made even better with mods.

@daddler88: thanks, I have many times been accused of being crazy. But I'm the only sane one. Anyway, thanks for using SMIM! Enjoy!
Daddelmatz Aug 10, 2020 @ 12:51am
YESSSS!

What an achievement, very impressive. No wonder you're crazy - I like you! :)

THX! :)
Black Rose Aug 6, 2020 @ 1:33pm
Ok, thanks for the reply. I'll get it from nexus. I've spent the last week and a half looking over the nexus mods and tons of youtube mod reviews, and I must say that your mod is probably the one I'm most exited about (not kidding). I've recently picked up Skyrim again for the first time since its infant stage, and I want to go mod-heavy. Thank you so much for your hard work. I'm sure it'll be an endorsement from me as well :)
Brumbek  [author] Aug 5, 2020 @ 2:14pm
@Black Rose: Yes, the Steam version is lacking a few features from the most recent SMIM releases. I never updated Steam because it's so much work. But you're only missing out on a few minor features, so don't stress too much about getting the Nexus version. Thanks for using SMIM.
Black Rose Jul 23, 2020 @ 1:25pm
Dude, you're at version 2.08 on Nexus, but 2.03 on steam. Does that mean we have to register at Nexus to download your latest version?
Void, the Violet Knight Jul 14, 2020 @ 7:10pm
I haven't even played it yet, I just like saying "Smim".
InvincibleToaster Jul 9, 2020 @ 11:49am
@Brumbek I cant say what it was that caused it but I loaded up the game a couple times and the issues are all gone away. I guess I forgot about my comment. Anyway, its all good now for whatever reason, thanks.
Brumbek  [author] Jul 9, 2020 @ 9:25am
@InvincibleToaster: Sorry to hear about the glitchy shadows and camera movement. SMIM isn't at fault, though. You can pick any custom install options on SMIM and nothing will break since SMIM in no way edits or modifies any game engine settings. So I'm sorry to say there's something else going on. Best of luck figuring it out! Did you modify any .ini files recently?
JohnSNEG Jul 6, 2020 @ 11:47am
смым
InvincibleToaster Jun 26, 2020 @ 10:43pm
recently installed SMIM and its the only mod in my load order, but now shadows and camera movement are glitchy as hell? its not my framerate, that never dips below 29. is it possibly because I chose custom settings for the install options? or am i barking up an entirely wrong tree.
Fartface O'Houlihan Jun 6, 2020 @ 5:53pm
Cool mod but you totally missed the opportunity for a Young Frankenstein reference in one of those screenshots.
Darkclaw3050 Jun 5, 2020 @ 4:27pm
Looks great, works great, still plays nice with other mods and doesn't hog all the memory. If you only get one mod on Steam, I would recommend this one. Thanks for making it.
Brumbek  [author] May 27, 2020 @ 5:49pm
@Secretlysupernatural: SMIM only adjusts the physics on the barrel lids, themselves. So items that are placed on top of barrels may fall off when opening, but nothing should fly around. Usually physics issues like that are because of running at uncapped or non-locked framerates. Or possibly from other physics mods or .ini edits. Hope that info helps. Thanks for using SMIM!
CrypticCutie May 23, 2020 @ 12:36pm
love this mod, makes everything a lot cleaner. Only problem is when I open a barrel/door items in that room go flying everywhere. Not sure if it's doing that because it's interacting with my other mods in a funny way, or if that's just how it goes.
