Sounds like a Steam problem, try re-starting or running a Verify Files (which'll overwrite any changes you've made to local XCOM 2 files)

But seriously I just love VPs with "whole sentences and less 1-2 words quips". Really give the soldiers some personality beyond what may or may not be written in their bio and much more immersive.
