Thanks for this mod! Makes it so that I don't feel like I have to leave my follower behind whenever I want to be a little sneaky.

@kryptopyr

This is one of those mods that actually helps Skyrim's AI and just not adding something stupid or putting a new map. I like these kinds of mods that help your companions not be freakin' ding dongs. If you could do something like THIS, you could actually make a new combat style for Skyrim! Not just plain-old swinging swords till 1 dies. Like you can actually parry and such! Just a suggestion but you just helped A L O T with using companions during stealth. Thx for the mod bro, peace

I'm using the Legendary Edition and currently (and I believe permanently) I'm using SERANA as companion. If you're familiar with her (the Vampire Lady, daughter of the Grand Vampire Lord), she is BY FAR MORE "interactive" character, she's sneaking around, her behavior is very independent, so sometimes ESPECIALLY DURING stealth missions, she's ruins my "stealth-kills".
Will this mod improve it... WITHOUT LOOSING her unique "interactive" character - in general, not during stealthing?

great mod, has a great impact!

Thanks for the support and kind words. While I don't often have the time to respond to individual comments, I do check back here occasionally to read what people post. It's encouraging to see that my work is still being appreciated and making a difference in peoples' games.

Happy New Year!

Sorry you won't see this but you really have made a big impact om my gaming and I appreciate it so much... and to all the other modders[??] out there who take time to share and prepare either for own or for publc use... I cannot access the nexus thingy or I would make it over and tell him, maybe one of you who does can ... Cheers and this is a great piece of work on my machine at least with 44 mods currently working together..... :)
Kad Jun 10, 2015 @ 1:12pm
wow, what a difference this makes - my sincere thanks, gaming has taken on a new thrill -
and much less of an anger bank
ENGINEER_H4RR7 May 8, 2015 @ 10:02am
Hi, Serana doesn't have the dialog option, where dawnguard memburs do.
gord davies Jul 29, 2014 @ 8:00am
outstanding mod! thank you! lidia is now very helpful instead of a PITA
Wolf_of_5hadow5 May 31, 2014 @ 8:32am
does it work with follower mods
Jaron Kitsune May 6, 2014 @ 5:05pm
Forgot to come back and mention, it's working now for Meeko. I eventually got a CTD (Not from this mod I'm quite sure) and when I started back up I had the option.
Jaron Kitsune Apr 30, 2014 @ 12:23am
Does it work on animals like Meeko?
123Rullh Apr 7, 2014 @ 9:15pm
Im not getting the dialogue, but Im suspecting this might be because Im allready using a stealth mod which lets you either ask followers to silently kill enemies when ready, or on your signal
(a "power" granted as you pick the dialogue option which you have to "cast" on the ground close to a target thats in line of sight from either you or the follower.)

That being said, im pitching the idea of these two mods working in unison, as the follower stealth-kill mod doesnt modify ...."reckless"...follower behavior, and from what I can gather from reading here, this mod doesnt have the stealth-kill feature.

Maybe theres a chance to collaborate and merge the two into one awesome stealth-mod?

(unless such a version allready exists that is, I haven't really prowled nexus for it as I prefer the simplicity of the steam manager rather than faffing around with zips and data-folders. and yes, im lazy I know :P Still, figured i'd pitch the suggestion =) )
Mike Feb 16, 2014 @ 6:42am
the dialogue doesnt appear :(
Wraith Jan 15, 2014 @ 10:49am
i just took their torches
Willoloh!!! Jan 3, 2014 @ 3:28pm
Does it affect ressurected units?
kryptopyr  [author] Dec 21, 2013 @ 6:45am
I disagree. The way steam installs and maintains mods can create a lot of problems if you're playing a heavily modded game. And Nexus is definitely more user-friendly for mod authors.
r4pt0r Dec 3, 2013 @ 7:06am
but steam is so much easier than the nexus
kryptopyr  [author] Dec 3, 2013 @ 6:56am
I'm no longer active in maintaining my files on Steam. I found that I just didn't have the time to update and maintain the files on two different sites. For the latest versions of my mods, as well as my more recent mods, go to Nexus:

shadow_prism Dec 1, 2013 @ 10:19pm
On this Mod - rated + and Thank you, it's so nice not to end up shooting my minions when they rush out to fight while I am being stealthy.
shadow_prism Nov 23, 2013 @ 10:37am
lukataushimo - that is because most Brigands in Skyrim are drug adicts, hooked on Skooma - it clearly messes with thier minds and makes them stupid.
lukatakushimo Nov 21, 2013 @ 8:37pm
great mod. now if someone could figure out how much AI it takes for bandits and others to stop looking for you when they arte all dropping around them with arrows in their heads. I would think the sneaking got real difficult real quick and stayed that way cuz they are getting slaughtered but ten seconds later it must have been their imagination. must be hearing things. thought i heard something. geuss they got away. what AI are they using...lol
valley29 Nov 4, 2013 @ 8:27am
Very useful mod. I hate it when a Follower(s) make that mad rush into combat just because one enemy may have noticed something is wrong.
Gothic_mando Nov 1, 2013 @ 12:59pm
hey man great mod just wondering what the update 3.3 adds? does it add bug fixes or something else?^^ thanks!
OliviaBarbara Sep 22, 2013 @ 3:41pm
Does this work with Inigo?
MackDaddyJew Sep 7, 2013 @ 8:25pm
Hey there kryptopyr I uninstalled the steam version of "Better Stealth AI for followers" and instead went to your Nexus page and I believe I installed the Dawngaurd version correctly (Not entirely sure where the "Sound" folder should go so I put in the Data folder). But now the mod doesn't function at all for other followers, not just Serana. I can't get the dialoge option for stealth to appear in conversation at all :(
kryptopyr  [author] Sep 5, 2013 @ 1:52pm
There is a version on Nexus that includes support for Serana; however it won't work at certain points in the Dawnguard quest (so as to not interfere with quest-related AI).
MackDaddyJew Aug 27, 2013 @ 11:27pm
Hey Kryptopyr thanks for the mod it's great. But is it compatible with Serana from Dawngaurd DLC. I have her following me around but the dialoge options are not showing. Is that because she uses a different follower AI than the one you're altering or do I just have to complete the quest line or something like that?
Pyramidhead'sHole Jun 30, 2013 @ 12:21pm
lol jodahavatar theres a mod to turn off dog bark s by errasing there need to bark
Pyramidhead'sHole Jun 30, 2013 @ 12:20pm
cool i was just thinking about that last night lol ty man cool mod i hated how all my frickin followers charg in that i have to have them wait out side
Skyhaven4 Jun 17, 2013 @ 12:41pm
Sorry, i just have to make sure, does this work with your other mod Brynjolf and Vex as Followers?
🅥🅐🅛 Jun 6, 2013 @ 10:48am
im not gettin dialogue box :(
Ryan May 12, 2013 @ 11:59am
Can this make Barbas back the F*** off while you are sneaking? And shut the f*** up too?
kryptopyr  [author] Feb 9, 2013 @ 12:41pm
It depends on the dog and how the dog is added as a companion. If the dog uses the default follower quest then it should work with them.
Shadow Feb 9, 2013 @ 10:33am
Does it work with a dog companion?
ATypical Hal Feb 7, 2013 @ 8:49am
thanks, good mod.
kryptopyr  [author] Feb 7, 2013 @ 6:29am
yes
ATypical Hal Feb 6, 2013 @ 8:03pm
Does AFT mean amazing follower tweaks by DHeuster cause i just dont know. Just making sure.
s-cardenas63 Jan 11, 2013 @ 12:14pm
thanks for this mod. i love the sneaking but it seems either the follower uses a torch or starts fights when i'm trying to be sneaky.
kryptopyr  [author] Oct 31, 2012 @ 2:10pm
Actually, yes, I'm currently working on a mod that will better balance stealth gameplay and make sneaking much more difficult and challenging.
Dovakiin Oct 31, 2012 @ 12:03pm
sorry didn't look,is their a mod that gives enemy NPCs better awareness of the player during stealth on steam or can you make one?
kryptopyr  [author] Oct 24, 2012 @ 2:20pm
You should see one additional line of dialogue added to your followers: "Let's discuss stealth combat tactics...". If you select this dialogue, you'll get two options (the text that is displayed changes depending on which mode the follower is currently in, which is why it appears to be four options). The one option is basically "Don't initiate combat" or "Wait for the enemy to initiate combat" -- this is the stealth mode. The second option is "Attack first" or "Initiate combat whenever enemies are near" -- this is vanilla. Keep in mind that your followers will continue to unequip torches while sneaking, no matter which setting you have selected.
kryptopyr  [author] Oct 24, 2012 @ 5:04am
Something that isn't necessarily obvious, but is another benefit of the approach that I've taken is that you can often recall your follower even after they've gone into combat (as long as they haven't been injured yet). For example, if you were running through the wilderness (not sneaking) and passed a fort and the occupants went hostile. If your follower rushes toward the fort to fight, but you would rather continue on and ignore the fort, you can simply start sneaking and it will recall your follower to your side (again, so long as neither of you has been injured).
kryptopyr  [author] Oct 24, 2012 @ 5:04am
Thank you for relaying this information. It's nice to have it confirmed with AFT. As far as the delay with your follower initially equipping the torch, this may have just been a quirk of the game or an issues related to another mod. My mod doesn't change anything that would affect when the follower chooses to use the torch or not, it just takes the torch away while they are sneaking and automatically returns the torch when not sneaking.

I don't think you'll have issues with any of the quests. I have 100+ mods active in my game. I have a few of the same quests installed, but they're fairly recent additions for me, and I haven't had a chance to play through them yet. I don't anticipate any problems with them.
kryptopyr  [author] Oct 23, 2012 @ 8:45pm
I far as I know, it shouldn't conflict with any of those three mods. However, I have not specifically tested it with those mods, so I cannot give you a 100% guarantee. I would be incredibly surprised if it conflicted in any way with the Horse Armor mod. The only way I can think that it might conflict with the Armor Disguises would be if scripts from the two mods interfered with one another, but again, I would be rather surprised if they did. If AFT is set up similar to UFO or EFF ('Extensible Follower Framework' - another large multiple follower mod), then it should work fine. The only issue that some people have had when using this mod with UFO is that you need to talk to your follower and reset them back to the vanilla combat mode before you dismiss them. I'm not sure whether this will be necessary with AFT or not. If you do decide to try it, please report back, so I know if it works.
Wardancer Oct 23, 2012 @ 6:15am
Amazing! I'm so ready to try this but have to got to work. Hopefully this afternoon I get to see if Vorstag stays the hell out of my way!!! Thanks again. I subscribed and can't wait to try it out and let you know later today how it did. I cannot believe how fast you did this!! :)
kryptopyr  [author] Oct 21, 2012 @ 5:32pm
Thank you! And thank you for confirming that it works with mounted followers.
KennyBall Oct 21, 2012 @ 2:22pm
