UPDATE 4.0: "Definitive Addons" Update!
    -- Spells
  • 10 New Spells: Ramping Fire, Sponge Projectile, Flaming Spray, Freezing Spray, Static Emitter, Personal Disco Emitter, Personal Static Emitter, Personal Gatling Emitter, and two secret spells.
  • All spell spawnrates have been majorly rebalanced. Now, VA spells spawn in more appropriate locations, and rare spells like lethality are actually rare now. Aditonally, there is much more balance between vanilla and VA spells spawning.
  • Huge Spell rework: Almost every spell has been revisited, and given a fresh coat of paint. The complete list of changes is below:

    ----Projectile----
  • Slash: Cosmetic and GUI Rework
  • Stab: Cosmetic and GUI Rework
  • Bullet: GUI Rework
  • Big Bullet: GUI Rework
  • Shotgun Shell: Slight rebalancing (Range up, spread up), Cosmetic and GUI Rework
  • Quad Laser: Cosmetic and GUI Rework
  • Stalling Bolt: Cosmetic and GUI Rework
  • Sprinting Bolt: Damage is no longer scaled by speed (It was far too janky and annoying to use.)
  • Mini Magic Missile: Small cosmetic rework, slight buff to explosion damage.
  • Ampere Rocket: Fixed electric effect jank. Slight Cosmetic Rework
  • Glittering Spray: Reworked to look and act more like the new Flaming and Freezing Spray spells
  • Cannonball: Base projectile now does DOUBLE damage (uses have been decreased slightly). Slight cosmetic rework.
  • Flame Helix: Slight buff. Slight cosmetic rework. The two projectiles of flame helix now merge into one when used with an add trigger/timer mod. There is a technical reason for this, but for now, just assume that it's cool magic.
  • Static Link: Cosmetic rework.
  • Bees: Bees are perfect. No change
  • Bee Bomb: Bees spawned from the Bee Bomb home in from further away.
  • Blink: No change
  • Crescent Waves: The status effect part of each wave is now an inherent part of the projectile itself. This means that it works with things like Larpa spells
  • Solar Ray: Reworked. It now has shorter range, but deals more damage, and actually acts like a laser.
  • Digging Void: No change
  • Sagittae: Firerate and knockback have all been reduced. Homing effect has been tweaked, Cosmetic changes (mainly particle reduction)
  • Lukki Bomb: Explosion power and cosmetics tweaked

    ----Static Projectile----
  • Shattering Explosion: GUI Rework, slight damage buff.
  • Volganone: Slight cosmetic rework to the explosion. Damage buff
  • Jumper Blast: No change
  • Flaming Hail Cloud: No change
  • Laead Spray Cloud: No change
  • Magic Burst: GUI Rework

    ----Modifiers----
  • Laser Sight: Reworked, Recolored, Re-classed to passive. now ray traces properly, and gives all spells on the wand zero G
  • Lethality: Cosmetic Rework. Consistency fixes.
  • Stasis Shot: No change
  • Disco Thrower: Renamed, Buffed, GUI Rework
  • Gatling Thrower: Renamed, Now fires projectiles forward, GUI Rework
  • Snap Homing: No change
  • Sodium Trail: No change
  • Chilly Trail: No change
  • Pure Trail: No change
  • Trail Plus: No change
  • Charm On Drunk: No change
  • Charm On Slime: No change
  • Critical On Shock: No change

  • Consistent Combat: Majorly Nerfed/Reworked. GUI rework
  • Random Modifier: Removed from all spawn pools, as it exists in the base game. Still obtainable via cheats/Cerin's special staff.
  • Mighty Burst: Removed, made obsolete by ramping fire.
  • Superball Shot: No change
  • Rainbow Shot: Green projectiles now inflict a slowing status effect.
  • Spiral Path: Renamed to Vortex Path to avoid confusion with vanilla spells.

    ----Multicasts----
  • Deca Spread: Reworked to Myriad Spread
  • Novem Burst: Reworked to Myriad Burst
  • Formation Cross: No change

    ---Utility---
  • All buff spells: No change

    ---Passive---
  • Tiny Dragon: Cosmetic rework. The projectiles now scale in damage with your max health, at +1% for every 1 HP over 100, making this familiar more useful in late game. The projectiles are also much less prone to lighting you on fire.
  • Counter Shield: Slight GUI rework
  • Safety Circle: No change

    ---Other/Reworked/Joke---
  • Charming Field: No change
  • Key Shot: Now creates an aura on hit instead of an explosion. no longer inflicts friendly fire or damages bosses.
  • Ice Thrower: Replaced with Freezing Spray
  • Omega Disc DX: No change, but a DX version of it's bigger brother has also been added.
  • Omega Slash: Promoted to a normal spell. Buff to reload time
  • All other Joke spells: no change

    -- Special Weapons
  • 6 New Special Weapons: Phantom Slasher, Strange Rocket Launcher, Chroma Lash, Chaos Ordinance, Gaurdbubbler, and Mana Mines.
  • Tweaks to Fatal lie, Draco Ferrio, Subjugation Rifle, and Vulcan Cannon

    -- Other Changes and Bugfixes
  • You can now properly use the void shovel even when spells_enabled is set to false. This means that you can play with only the shovels enabled if you so choose.
  • Dev Spells should no longer spawn in secret shops.

PATCH 3.3:
    -- Bug Fixes
  • All spells should now work properly with 1.0 content.
  • All specials should now work properly with 1.0 content.
  • Some specials have been tweaked, and made editable. This change may be reverted if it causes balancing problems.
  • Wand Radar now shows the location of special weapons.
  • The spawn chance of specials in the secret areas was decreased from x4, to x3.

    -- A word from SpazProjects
  • Another big-ish update is coming...eventually, I promise! However, I'm very busy these days, so don't expect it any time soon. For now, this update should make the mod fully compatible with 1.0!

PATCH 3.2:
  • the spell "Invulnerable Status" now imposes a 15 second penalty on wand reload, making game breaks with it a little tougher.
  • Fixed a glitch with buff spells and multi-casts. You should be able to use them properly in this case now.

PATCH 3.1:
  • Fixed a compatability issue with the code that prevented dev spells from spawning.
  • Fixed a quirk with the buff spells, and made them overall just better to use (thanks @LoMoCoMo!). They should no longer inflict buffs on enemies if placed on a trigger payload.

  • Added one new spell: Magic Burst, a static projectile who's blast radius and damage scale off of a wands current mana.

UPDATE 3.0: "Feeling Special" Update!'
    -- Spells
  • 11 New Spells: Solar Ray, Digging Void, Superball Shot, Rainbow Shot, Berserk Status, Speed Status, Cloak Status, Invulnerable Status, Spiral Path, Sagittae, Lukki Bomb.

    -- Special Weapons
  • 9 New Special Weapons: Vulcan Cannon, Tactical Shovel, Russian Roulette, Rocket Launcher, Rock-et Launcher, Venin Axe, Fearless Sword, Desert Eagle, Ballistic Shield
  • Special weapons now have a small chance (about 5%, give or take) to replace random wands in the snowy depths and all biomes after. This spawn chance is quadrupled in the Tower, the Frozen Vault, the Fungal Caverns and the Sandcaves.
  • Most special weapons have been removed from their fixed spawn locations, in favor of them spawning randomly. Draco Ferrio, Subjugation Rifle, Polar Star, Completionists Codex, Bre-si's Trident, and Desert Dragon still spawn in their normal locations however.
  • Special spawning can be tweaked in the config file.
  • Polar star was moved to the opposite side of the lava lake.
  • Desert Dragon was moved to be inside the Dragon Egg.

    -- Balance Changes
  • Buff: Crescent Waves mana cost: 33 ---> 30.
  • Buff: Crescent Wave: Thunder inflicts shock for a much longer duration.
  • Nerf: Crescent Wave: Frost freezes for a much shorter duration.
  • Buff: Mighty Burst mana cost: 30 ---> 23.
  • Buff: Tiny Dragon mana cost: 15 ---> 5.
  • Buff: Tiny Dragon fireballs have less gravity.
  • Nerf: Sprinting Bolt mana cost: 8 --> 10
  • Buff: Sprinting Bolt damage 5 ---> 0.04. Sprinting Bolt's damage now scales with it's speed. (This is a buff, trust me.)
  • Nerf: Consistent Combat was made slightly rarer.
  • Buff: Stasis Shot lifetime bonus: 190 ---> 400.
  • Nerf: Stasis Shot delay modifier: -0.15 sec ---> -0.08 sec
  • Buff: Glittering Spray explosion radius: 10 ---> 16.
  • Nerf: Glittering Spray max uses: 125 ---> 90.
  • Nerf: Lethality mana cost: 120 ---> 220.
  • Nerf: Key shot mana cost: 120 ---> 220.
  • Buff: Blink comes out on frame 1, instead of frame 5.
  • Buff: Blink now lets you teleport through small walls.
  • Nerf: Blink mana cost: 35 ---> 65
  • Nerf: Blink will not teleport you to the edge of a wall if there isn't enough distance to teleport through it.

    -- Cosmetic Changes
  • Shovels and Special Weapons now have sparkles, and create the expected text upon pickup.
  • Shovels no longer create the "Wand Empty" sound when used. Additionally, all shoves are much quieter, especially the void shovel, which is now much less performance heavy.
  • Special Weapons sparkle with blue sparks, to make them easier to pick out from normal wands.
  • Tiny Dragon was made slightly prettier.
  • Snap Homing's detection radius was very slightly decreased, to better match it's indicator.
  • One new joke spell, and one new secret spell.

    -- A word from SpazProjects
    I try my best to ensure everything in Varia Addons is more or less balanced to the base game's standards. However, as a single person, I can only do so much. As such, I've opened a discussion for the sake of maintaining this mod's balance. If you feel something needs buffs, nerfs, or tweaks, please do not hesitate to post about it there.

    With that out of the way, I have one more thing to say. When I first started making Varia Addons, I never thought that it would gain nearly as much traction as it did. I had a lot of fun creating this mod, as it was really just me adding all the features I myself wanted in my game. As such, this mod is fairly personal, so it really warms my heart to see all the people that enjoy it as much as I do. I'm going to start College very soon, so I won't have nearly as much time to work on this mod. But even still, I wanted to show my appreciation for the people that have stuck with it. Thank you so much to everyone who plays with Varia Addons. I'm incredibly grateful that you enjoy it.

PATCH 2.2:
  • Added a config file to the mod's folder! Hate shovels with a burning passion? Now you can disable them!
  • Significantly reduced the number of particles that snap homing creates, to prevent lag.
  • Ampere missile was moved from the sky alter to the sand caves orb room, on account of being way better than expected.
  • Avernus was made to have less mana, but faster fire rate, to really hone home it's burst-y-ness

  • Reworked 3 unused spells:
    Circle of Persuasion, Icethrower, Key Shot.

  • This brings the total number of spells (including timer/trigger variants, and joke spells) up to 64!


-- Shovels
  • Shovels now spawn in the Niota world! Shovels are tools that take the RNG out of finding the perfect digging wand. They always spawn in the same places every run, take up a wand slot each, and are completely optional, so feel free to ignore them if you deem them too unfair.

  • There are three shovels:
    Shovel: Located to the right of spawn. Can dig through dirt and soft rock/materials at a medium pace.

  • Golden Shovel: Located to the right of the final boss arena. Can dig through anything except cursed rock at a fast speed.

  • Void Shovel: Located in the gold biome to the east. Can dig through anything at a ludicrous speed.


-- Special Weapons
  • 13 Unique weapons have been hidden around the world of Niota! These artifacts have varied effects, but be it simple or complex, all of them are fun to use. Like the shovels, they spawn in the same place every run, and are completely optional.

  • Please see the compendium on the main page for a list of all special weapons.


-- Changes
  • Quite a few reworks and changes to be had!
  • Slash was reworked to be a bit less janky (it might have been more janky in the process, but we'll see). It is also now slightly less common.
  • The trigger and timer variants of slash unfortunately had to be removed, as there was no easy fix for the slash glitch, and these spells weren't that interesting anyways.
  • Bullet and Shotgun Shell displaying two spread stats has been fixed.
  • Gatling thrower shots now make less noise
  • No U's particles were changed a bit to match it's color more.
  • Bullet Cloud's effect was buffed by 50%
  • Stalling bolt's particles were changed a bit.
  • Ampere rocket was made weaker, but also given cheaper mana cost and lower delay to compensate.
  • Lethality now only plays it's kill sound if it's effect activates, as opposed always playing to even when the enemy was killed by the base projectile, and not the Lethality effect itself.
  • Removed all periods from spell descriptions, since the base game doesn't have them.
  • New wand effects (custom cards) for Quad Laser, Mini Magic Missile, Glitter Spray, Cannonball, Shattering Blast, and Lethality.
  • Added one new joke spell: Bad Time Bone, and one new joke Shovel: Nuclear Shovel, which can be found In the underground gold biome to the west, below the lake
  • Removed Herobrine.
