Grand Theft Auto III: Definitive Edition

Here we are over 10 years later and Rockstar still hasn't given Grand Theft Auto III the update the game deserves. With the Definitive Edition patch we have fixed many bugs and also added some mods to restore exclusive features from console versions of the game, all this without any sacrifices.

Information

GTA III, like Vice City and San Andreas after it, has a fairly dated PC port. Rockstar Games seems to not care much for their older games on the Steam and the PC platform, sadly. These GTA: DE patch aim to correct many issues and modernize these ports smoothly.

FAQ

Faced with a certain problem, or just want to know as much information as possible before starting the game? Answers to frequently asked questions are published below:

1. Game logos and Steam Overlay at the beginning of the game may not work.
   
2. The graphics settings in the game should look like this:
   
   
3. Steam's save files is doesn't work. Clear the User Files from the My Documents folder and start a new game!
   
4. If you are experiencing FPS issues, follow these steps:
   
   • In the scripts folder, open the file GTA3.WidescreenFix.ini and change the values to disable anti-aliasing in the game:
     

     "ForceMultisamplingLevel = max" to "ForceMultisamplingLevel = 0"
     

   • In the same folder, open the file IIILodLights.ini and change the values to degrade the drawing distance:
     

     "DrawDistance = 3.6" to "DrawDistance = 1.8"
     "PreloadLODs = 1" to "PreloadLODs = 0"
     

5. If you want to change the FPS (this may cause some bugs and make story missions unavailable), you can change the following values in the FramerateVigilante.ini; III.VC.SA.LimitAdjuster.ini; MixSets.ini files:
   

   "FPSLimit=30" to "FPSLimit=60"
   

6. If you need to change the aspect ratio, open GTA3.WidescreenFix.ini in the scripts folder and change the values to the desired value.
   

   "ForceAspectRatio = 16:9" change as you need.
   "FrontendAspectRatio = 16:9" change as you need.
   

7. If you are experiencing problems running the game, try setting compatibility with Windows XP in the properties of the executable file.
   
8. You can enable anisotropic filtering and vsync for smoother gaming and detailed graphics in your graphics card settings.

[14.03.2021] Grand Theft Auto III: Definitive Edition <UPD 9>

The patch has been updated and the following changes have been made:

• Added "III Shadows".
  
• Added "III Passengers".
  
• Added "IIIBreakableWindshields".
  
• Replaced icons when playing with a gamepad. They are now displayed in HD quality and correspond to the buttons on XONE and PS4.
  
• Added "d_hud_sniper_fix. cs" to correct the aiming position when using a sniper rifle.
  
• Partially redesigned "hud.txd". Now the radar map will not "climb" out of the circle, but will always strictly remain in it.
  
• Rebuilt "particle.txd" - this should remove black bars instead of bullet shots, and also solve crashes on some PCs.

Do not forget that the update should only be installed on a clean game. There may be problems with saves in the form of various bugs. Recommend starting a new game!

try out "improved classic" ive found zero bugs with it so far. ive also tried out many other modpacks for the gtas such as "Updated Classic" and "Classic Enhanced", this modpack "Definitive Edition" has appeared the most buggy. Oh yea btw the game is meant to be played at 25 fps even with mods, you're gonna get many issues otherwise

For everyone who wants to install... DON'T. It's as buggy as the official definitive edition. This happens with VC and SA too, they don't longer give support for these patches, and I have to mention that you won't get 60 fps as they promise (it's locked at 30 and for some odd reason it's not optimized.)

Loving this collection of mods game looks and plays great. Only problem im having is shadows doing weird tings like your cars shadow showing up above you on a wall and on the second island you see a lot of shadows going through the tunnel areas people and cars from above. If someone knows how to fix this id love to hear it. otherwise ill just deal

@BMBL #GLF had the same problem on first launch but after restarting the next couple times it's worked as expected.
