Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Definitive Edition
By Abysswalker and 1 collaborators
Here we are over 10 years later, and Rockstar still hasn't given Grand Theft Auto: Vice City the update it deserves. In this guide we have fixed many bugs from the PC game, and also added some mods to restore things from console versions of the game, without any sacrifices.
 Bikini Girl.png]GTA Vice City, much like GTA III and San Andreas, has a fairly dated PC port.
Rockstar Games seems to not care much for their older games on the PC platform, sadly.
The Definitive Edition patch aims to correct many issues and modernize these ports smoothly.

By installing the Definitive Edition patch you are breaking the Rockstar end user license agreement and when contacting their support, they may refuse due to the EULA violation. In accordance with the GNU GPL license(s), as the authors of this guide, we have a right to non-commercial distribution and modification as long as no changes are made to the original source. We are not the authors of all the following modifications, and therefore any error/crash/bugs should be directed to the developers themselves.

Fixes porting errors, bugs in the game and crashes on Windows 10. Adds support for widescreens, 60 FPS and gamepads. Introduces AI upscaled videos, textures and some elements straight from the PS2, Xbox and mobile platforms.

Before starting the game for the first time, it is highly recommended to install the following libraries in order to avoid crashes and other problems.

Faced with a certain problem, or just want to know as much information as possible before starting the game? Answers to frequently asked questions are published below:
  1. Game logos and Steam Overlay at the beginning of the game may not work.
  2. The graphics settings in the game should look like this:
  3. Steam's save files is doesn't work. Clear the User Files from the My Documents folder and start a new game!
  4. If you are experiencing FPS issues, follow these steps:
    • Remove the AI Enhanced Textures folder from the modloader folder.
    • In the scripts folder, open the file GTAVC.WidescreenFix.ini and change the values to disable anti-aliasing in the game:
      "ForceMultisamplingLevel = max" to "ForceMultisamplingLevel = 0"
    • In the same folder, open the file VCLodLights.ini and change the values to degrade the drawing distance:
      "DrawDistance = 3.6" to "DrawDistance = 1.8" "MaxDrawDistanceForNormalObjects = 600.0" to "MaxDrawDistanceForNormalObjects = 300.0" "PreloadLODs = 1" to "PreloadLODs = 0"
  5. If you want to change the FPS (this may cause some bugs and make story missions unavailable), you can change the following values in the FramerateVigilante.ini; III.VC.SA.LimitAdjuster.ini; MixSets.ini files:
    "FPSLimit=30" to "FPSLimit=60"
  6. If you need to change the aspect ratio, open GTAVC.WidescreenFix.ini in the scripts folder and change the values to the desired value.
    "ForceAspectRatio = 16:9" change as you need. "FrontendAspectRatio = 16:9" change as you need.
  7. If you are experiencing problems running the game, try setting compatibility with Windows XP in the properties of the executable file.
  8. You can enable anisotropic filtering and vsync for smoother gaming and detailed graphics in your graphics card settings.

  • VRTP has been added and merged with AI Enhanced Texture.
  • Various texture adjustments.

Thank you so much for this mod. I appreciate it! So I can make walkthrough with this mod here

I appreciate this mod, but this current version is extremely unstable. I tried both Definitive Editions for GTA 3 and VC. 3 worked fine and ran perfectly. This one crashes constantly (I have to save every freaking time because of fearing it might crash), the transition between Mainland and Beach takes a long time to load the more I play it (in 3 there is no more transition loading between the islands) and I noticed that the more I play the game without exiting, the more RAM it consumes, so every two hours I quit this game and start it again to "refresh it" (memory leak?). I tried running in the windows 98 compatibility mode and it didn't help.

I bought the house at Vice Point and I am stuck in an endless loop of being taken to the save menu

Is there a way to stop making cars and things just pop-in? Or is that just the way this game is?

@Demolisher: Delete the existing config file (which can be found in "My Documents" folder -> "GTA Vice City user files" folder) and let the modded version create a new one.
