I Passed the Invisible Walls, and You Can Too
By Ebanezer
Goodneighbor offers a way to explore past the invisible walls, because Goodneighbor follows its own rules.

I don't have recording software on my computer, so i don't have any gifs or videos of this, sorry. Also some of the screenshots look bad because i couldn't find a good angle for them and was too lazy to put in console commands, so sorry again (but less this time).

The basic rundown of how this is going to go is I'm going to share my experience in finding this glitch, and then say how to do it. So skip to the end if you just want to know how to do it, but know that i have very pretty screenshots of the out of bounds area in the experience section.

Also sorry for spelling and grammar errors, but i just don't care
Finding the glitch
(Again if you just want to know how to find it skip to the section "How to find it" and if you want screenshots skip to the section "In 'No Man's Land'")

The way I found this glitch was a complete accident. I was exploring high places around GoodNeighbor (I have a jetpack mod intalled so I was flying around the rooftops), and I got bored of it so I decided to leave. I started walking along the overpass and when i got to the end I jumped off.

One way of entering the town of Goodneighbor is by dropping in from above, so when I dropped off of the overpass outside of the city, I was fully expecting to be loaded outside of Goodneighbor in the CommonWealth. instead, i dell to the ground and discovered I could walk around in the decorative zone just outside the city.

Expecting it to be a small amount of intangable buildings followed by a dropoff into a skybox, I started wandering, curious. After a while i realized that when decorating the zone outside of a closed city, Bethesda apparently loads the whole map as a backdrop, but changes it so that no enemies may spawn, normaly solid entities become intangable, and some of the really far away textures don't spawn.

I'd assume that if you could find a way over the wall of Diamond City, you'd be greeted by a similar sight.
In "No Man's Land"
As I was at first both confused and curious upon discovering this glitch, i forgot to take screenshots until the very end of my exploration. The screen shots you see are all far past the invisible barrier South West of the Glowing sea (the regular map area, while interesting to look at, is very ugly, with half loaded smeared textures everywhere, so you arent missing much.

Why I'm showing you these though is to show how good the gane looks, even in areas that were never meant or thought to be seen by player eyes. I don't know if this is randomly generated or what, but either way, good job Bethesda. (Although there also isn't really much to see here, while it is pretty, it can also be bleak, barren, and uninteresting at times, like some areas of the Mojave in New Vegas)

I'm somewhere over here

Here you can see the game still is saying I'm in Goodneighbor, the quest markers are pointing to the exit to the city

Here you can see the Prydwen and the larger buildings of Boston

Once you start seeing this, you've gone very far. You're character may experience stuttering, jumpy movements, while still moving forward. This is (what I presume) the game having difficulty calculatind where your character is in the engine because they're so far out of bounds. Just accept this and keep moving. Your character may also start fallng short distances, this is also part of the jumpy movemet issue, no players were supposed to be out here, so why generate stable terrain?

Eventually, seemingly out of nowhere, your character will accelerate forewards extreemly quickly, if you turn around you may catch a glimpse of the map fading away in the distance. I've tried to capture a screenshot of this, but it happens so quickly and suddenly that i'm caught off guard every time. When this happens, it will last for around a second, then your game will crash (or at least mine did)
How to Get out of Bounds
So the first obvious answer to getting out of bounds like I did is to intall a player jetpack mod and fly up there (the one I use is the CROSS Jetpack, I use it on nexus, but i'm pretty sure it's in the in-game mod library). But not everyone has access to mods or wants to use them, so I wondered if I could find a way to do it in game using only resoures found in the vanilla game, and without using console commands, and there is.

In order to get up there at all you'll still need a jetpack, it's the only way to get to high places in the game. Luckily, power armor comes with a jetpack attatchment (yeah, you have to work for this one). So the first "step" is to craft a jetpack at a power armor station, any one will do. You will also want to bring any AP restoring food (I suggest Quantum), i'll get to why later.

Now that you're ready, it's time to travel to Goodneighbor, specifically, Daisy's Discounts in Goodneighbor, the general goods store right across from the entrance to the town.

You'll want to head up to the second floor, access is easy due to a staircase in the back.

When up the stairs round the corner to your right completely. You shold see a dirty matress and some bookshelves.

Walk up to the dirty matress and look up, you should see a hole in the floors above you, leading to the roof, jetpack up these floors.

Once on the roof of the building, you be standing next to b bunch of air vents and what looks like a shack on the higher roof of the building next door. Jump up onto the vents.

From the vents, hop onto the roof of the shack, from there you can reach the overpass but you need to listen to this tid-bit first.

It's time to crack out that AP restoration food I told you about earlier. If you have really high AP you probably won't need it, but it's always good to have insurrance. This is going to be the highest jump you make, so you are going to burn through a lot of AP. I'd suggest binding your food item to a number by favoriting it in your Pip-Boy (I know you know how to do this but i'm going to say "press 'Q'" anyway).

As you fly, press the bound key any time your AP drops to low, and it will refil, making for a longer flight time.

Congrats! You should now be on the overpass. Simply start walking away from Goodneighbor along the overpass, and jump off the area where the bridge is collapsed.

(yes, I know that second to last one is a bad picture)
You are now out of bounds! you can travel in any direction and explore the half-loaded purgatory CommonWealth. You can even move past the invisible barrier of the game map, but going too far past will cause your game to crash (see the section "In 'No Man's Land'"). You can leave at anytime by fast traveling to any location, and any saves in this area will be labled as "GoodNeighbor" no matter where you are in dicount background Boston.

Keep in mind that textures don't load as often here, especialy further out, so the game may look wierd and your character may start walking on air or through rock at times. Also be cautious, as water still holds the same properties as it does in the normal game, and could still drown or irradiate you if you don't have the "Aqualad/lass" perk.

stop praising bethesda, they don't deserve it. If they'd made the game correctly this would have been impossible.

Wow, this is an awesome find! I love the screenshots of "No Man's Land" in daylight, very nostalgic to me (for some reason).
