Guide to Dazzle Support (7.06)

Dazzle is a unique hero who can sustain his teammates in a fight for an extended period amount of time. His shallow grave is a unique ability which can be game changing and win many team fights. His early game potential means that he can perform ganks reasonably well with his poison touch and is a great harasser in lane. Dazzles shadow wave is great for performing massive amounts of heal towards his whole team whilst having the potential to get solo kills with his heal bomb and his ultimate weave can be used defensively to keep his whole team alive or offensively to negate the armour of his enemies.

Each young acolyte to the Dezun order must complete a series of rites before becoming a shadow priest. The final rite, the rite of shades, is a harrowing spiritual journey through the Nothl Realm, an unpredictable domain from which not all visitants return. Of those who do, some return mad. Others return with strange aptitudes. But all who go there are changed by their experiences. Driven by the need for enlightenment, Dazzle was the youngest of his tribe ever to request the sacred ritual. At first the order refused him, saying he was too young. But Dazzle was not to be dissuaded. Sensing something special in the headstrong young acolyte, the elders relented. Dazzle drank down the sacred potion and sat by the fire while the rest of his tribe danced through the night. In this ethereal dimension of the Nothl Realm, the properties of light and dark are inverted. Thus his brilliant healing light, beautiful to our eye, is actually a sinister kind of evil; and the darkest deeds are done in a dazzling glow. The elders' intuition was prophetic: Dazzle returned to his people as a Shadow Priest like none seen before, with the power to heal as well as to destroy. Now he uses his gift to fight his enemies and help his friends.
Dazzle's abilities
Poison Touch - Is a spell which is cast on enemies to slow them while doing damage over time. It is one of the best level one spells in the game for zoning out the enemy offlaners early on in the game. This spell lasts for 7 seconds and ticks damage every second which is great for canceling blinks.



Shallow grave - Is a spell which grants an allied hero invulnerability from death for five seconds (with exception of axe culling blade). This spell works well with a tp scroll where you can grave an allied hero which allows them to tp out safely.




Shadow wave - Is a spell which sends out a bolt of heal towards nearby allied units. This ability also damages enemy units standing nearby. Unlike most heals shallow wave is physical damage meaning that it is able to go through units with magical protection such as bkb and deal lots of damage when there are a lot of units nearby.


Weave - Is a spell which buffs allied heroes that are in the radius of weave when cast. This buff causes allied heroes to gain armour every second for the total duration of 24 seconds. This spell can also be casts on enemy heroes to reduce their armour. This ability works well when cast before a fight begins so that armour can build up on allied heroes or diminish on enemy heroes.
Skill Build
Skilling poison touch at level one is the best way to play dazzle. This is because it allows for you to harass the offlaner and makes it hard for enemies to trade hits with you. When trading hits with dazzle you should spam poison touch whenever you can as long as you can trade hits with the enemy offlaner. If you play the early levels correctly you can fully zone out the enemy and are most likely going to force the offlaner out of the lane and into the jungle. Skilling shadow wave next is very important as it allows for you to sustain you and your carry. By maxing this skill first it allows for more units to be healed as well as increases the kill potential of heal bombing the enemy offlaner whenever he comes up to lane. Skilling shallow grave at level 4 is always essential. This is because it has the potential to save the lives of any hero and is one of the best non-ultimate spells in the game. Level up your ultimate whenever you can to ensure that you can buff your allies when a team fight starts. Finally getting your talents as soon as you can is crucial and there should be no reason to skill and ability over getting a talent
Talents

At level 10 it is better to get health as opposed to intelligence. Most guides would suggest getting the intelligence talent as opposed to the health. The reason why getting health is better is because the enemies are always going to be aiming you first in a team fight and having an extra 125hp can keep you alive. If by chance you do get the 10 intelligence that's only going to increase your mana pool by 110 and doing this will only give you mana for one more heal but since dazzle's mana pool is generally quite high this is not as helpful.

At level 15 getting the cast range is easily the better talent to pick. There is absolutely no reason why any person playing dazzle should get the +60 damage as you are always going to be in the back lines keeping your teammates alive so attacking with dazzle is not too useful. On the other hand getting cast range will mean that you can stay further back in team fights which allows you to have a higher chance to survive and by surviving you can keep healing your allies allowing them to stay in battle for longer.

At level 20 it is better to get the 25 DPS poison touch as opposed to movement speed. Movement speed is not a good talent to get because it only increases your speed by 25 which to me is useless since dazzle is generally a fast hero and most of the time can slow the enemies with poison touch or grave and tp to escape. Getting the extra damage means that over time your poison touch will do an extra 175 magical damage which is a lot better.

At level 25 it is almost always better to get the shadow wave heal than to get the poison touch slow. This is because during late game you would rather keep your allies alive than to try and slow enemies. Having a 1 second cd on poison touch may seem good as you can spam it on the whole of the enemy team but when it is that late into the game everybody would probably have a bkb so the slow wouldn't do as much as having to go close to enough to cast it would leave you vulnerable to the enemies.
Item Build
It is always important to get a set of tango, a healing salve and a clarity at the start of every game since it will keep you from having to go back to base to regen. As dazzle is best played as a position 5 support it is your job to get the courier and both wards. This will ensure that your team will have early vision in the early game and can prevent ganks from happening. This early game build can change depending on if the other support in your team buys any support items. If they do it is also useful at times to buy a smoke or a sentry.





In the early game it is important to get a wand as a first item as it gives a large boost of mana and health which can be used to keep you and your teammates alive. Mana boots is always a must have because you are going to be spamming spells every team fight so mana may be a problem throughout the whole game. an urn is quite a situational item depending on how much you are going to gank. If you are not going to be ganking a lot then it is advised that you skip this item. Medallion is almost never a bad pick as it gives a large boost of armour which can keep your cores alive as well as making the enemies squishy.

I can't say how important it is to get a mek on dazzle. It is one of the best items on him and can be rushed after getting mana boots and wand if desired. A force staff is always great to get as it allows you to force your allies out of harms way. If another teammate is getting a force staff early on it may be better to go glimmer before force staff. Guardian greaves is a core item to pick up after getting the rest of the items. It gives you an extra slot in your inventory for an extra item as it merges mana boots and mek together and is great for debuffing negative buffs.

These items are all luxury items. It is expected that none of these items will be picked up in a game. Aghanims has a really cool effect where all your teammates will be graved which is good against big team fight ultimates but in my opinion should only be bought if your most of your teammates get nuked down in team fights. Scythe is always a good pick up on any hero as it disables them from casting any spells but is also one of the most expensive items in the game making it very rare on dazzle. Rod of atos is one of the cheapest luxury items on dazzle and is very useful as it roots enemies and is great for securing kills. Orchid is another reasonably expensive item to purchase on dazzle and can be be game changing especially against heroes which use a lot of spells.
Items
A tango is always a good purchase on any hero and is one of the most cost effective regen items.


A healing salve is always good for fast regen to get back into lane asap. A salve can also be given to the carry in the lane if dazzle does not end up using it.


Dazzle is a very mana dependant hero so having a clarity would allow him to stay in lane and spamming spells on the enemy.


Self explanatory item. Great item on all supports and wins games for a team. Don't underestimate this cheap item.


Sentries are always great to buy at the start if you have spare coins. Getting an early deward can lead to potential ganks.


Having extra stats from these branches are always good and can be used to build core items later in the game like magic wands and a mekansm.


Carrying a smoke in your backpack can help for quick ganks at anytime. Getting this item early on is great since dazzle's slow can be deadly.


Mana boots are a must have item on dazzle as it allows you to keep casting spells in a team fight.


Wand is a great item on almost every hero as it gives a burst of health and mana for survivability.


A medallion is always a good pickup on dazzle as it gives an large amount of armour for keeping allies alive and can be used aggressively to negate armour.


An urn can be picked up if you are going to be ganking more but can be bought depending on how aggressive you are going to be playing.


Gliimer cape is a great item to pick up anytime as it is a cheap item to keep your let your teammates get away and has a nice magic resistance bonus.


A mekansm can be a great source of heal for your team and is a must have item. Can be used as shallow grave ends to allow teammates to receive a few more hits.


A force staff is always a great item to get. It allows for you to force an enemy out of harms way and can be used to force enemies into your team.


Guardian greaves are great because it provides mana and health while dispelling most negative buffs and also frees up an item slot.


An upgraded version of medallion. Gives more armour and evasion which is a very powerful pick up.


Atos is always a great item as it allows for you to completely halt an enemies movement.


Aghanims scepter causes dazzle's shallow grave to be AOE which allows multiple teammates to survive deadly combos.


An orchid is a great item as it silences enemy spells which may keep them alive and can be a game-changing item.


One of the most expensive items in the game but also one of the most useful. Completely disables enemy units and allows for great pickoffs.


Good Against
Dazzle is one of the best counters towards legion commander because any ally that gets dueled can be instantly shallow graved causing no duel victory towards legion commander and can also save the life of the teammate.



Dazzle is great against necrophos because he makes his ult completely useless when shallow grave is cast on a teammate. No matter how low a hero is reavers scythe with not penetrate through dazzles shallow grave.




dazzle is also a good counter towards venomancer. This is because venomancer is known for doing large amounts of damage after a teamfight is over cause heroes to fall long after a battle. Dazzle has the ability to keep multiple heroes alive with his shadow wave as well as allowing a hero to tp back while shallow graved to heal.
Bad Against
Axe is most likely the biggest counter towards dazzle. This is due to him having the ability to take down any foe that i beyond a certain health threshold which bypasses shallow grave.




Ancient Apparition is a great counter towards dazzle because he prevents dazzle from healing any allies and also when teammates are shallow graved they will soon die because of the lingering effects of ice blast.




Outworld Devourer is great against dazzle because as dazzle casts shallow grave on an ally OD can imprison the hero which causes it to be useless for most of the total shallow grave duration and causes damage after the hero is released making shallow grave useless.




Silencer is good against dazzle because when silence is cast during a team fight dazzle is completely useless having all his spells disabled for the total duration making him a walking target.
Works well with
Huskar + Dazzle is one of the most well known combos in dota. Huskar gains attack speed while he is low on health and having shallow grave on him while he is low prevents him from dying and also allows him to release an insane amount of damage due to his attack speed.



Dazzle is great with legion as he can prevent legion from dying in a duel by casting shallow grave ensuring that no duel damage is given to the opponent and allows legion to come out with a win.




Phantom lancer works really well with dazzle because these two heroes have a good potential to nuke down enemies. Phantom lancers phantom rush allows for a large amount of illusions to go on a single target and when dazzle shadow waves all the pl illusions an insane amount of damage gets released.


Broodmother has a great killing potential with dazzle because of all the spiderlings she is able to produce. When dazzle shadow graves the spiderlings a large amount of damage is produced which is know to wipe out enemies. This works well because the spiderlings are invisible so the opponents will not know what's coming until it's too late.

Oh and also if someone counters you with an axe pick don't panic, medallion, shadow wave and weave are good counters to axe, so axe and dazzle counters each other well.
