Report a translation problem
It might be hard coded (robes=yes, all armors=no) or it might be a property of the base item. All individual items belong to a base item class, which gives them their base properties, limitations, etc. Properties from the actual item come on top of that.
You can ask on Deadly Stream, there's people there who know more about this than me.
As a game mechanic those limitations do make sense to me, there has to be a benefit to using robes, it can't only be a cosmetic choice.
