Kingdom Death Monster (KDM) Achromatic Edition (Scripted)

Description
NOTICE: THIS MOD IS LARGELY DISCONTINUED. IT WILL NOT BE UPDATED TO 1.5 OR OTHER EDITIONS NOR WILL THE ASSETS/SCRIPTING CONTINUE TO BE GUARANTEED TO WORK.

OTHER FILES ARE DIRECT BRANCHES FROM THIS VERSION: PRATTSKI'S ACHROMATIC UPDATE AND ARBIE'S COMMUNITY EDITION HAVE IMPROVEMENTS FROM THIS VERSION.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Yet Another KDM Mod. Priorities of this mod are: time saving scripts, pragmatic layout, performance, and a reasonably colorless theme to mirror the game art.

KDM is a tactical and strategic group cooperative game with heavy RPG mechanics and significant difficulty. Can be played with 1-6 players (4 is ideal).

------------------------------------------------------------

FEATURES OF ACHROMATIC VERSION/DIFFERENCE FROM OTHER MODS

SCRIPTING:

-Auto-Showdown/Auto-Hunt (+expansions): Select the desired monster and place on the setup pads. Scripts deploy the necessary components for the monster encounter.

-Auto Deck Refresh: Gear, Resources, and Character cards auto-clone themselves when drawn to ensure decks are stocked properly. Tokens on table allow you to change refresh frequency so it doesn't result in the wrong dillution of cards.

-Character Sheets + Settlement Sheet: Fully interactable. To edit text, click "Edit", enter text into description field of black spawned token, and click "Edit" again. To fill in boxes, just click them. To change counters, click the "+"/"-". Armor values are now auto-read into gear counters. Set cards adjust armor values automatically. Tokens add temp stats to character. Character card titles are auto-added to char sheet.

-Manual Browsing Machine: If using core, use state 1; if using expansions, use state 2. Select the book/chapter you need to view, then the page title. Includes overhauled expansion manuals.

CONTENT:

-Card deck images have all been significantly overhauled and optimized. Game should load into memory only decks that matter at the time. Much less unnecessary use of memory from unorganized decks or from unnecessary high quality images.

-Included in the Game Box (under the white pedestal): 1.5 version of some cards -- add and replace those components as needed. Promo cards: add as needed. People of the Stars and People of the Sun alternate campaign character sheets and settlement sheets. Replace base ones if using those alternate campaigns.

-Expansion contents: Core decks are currently core only. Add the bagged expansion contents to the base game as needed. Bags are located in the respective box for that expansion. leave the showdown/hunt related cards/components in the box or scripted feature will not work for that monster.

-When practical, vanilla art was used for boards and other components. Some custom content exists but only due to significant increase in practicality. Some vanilla art was modified in mild ways to meet practicality needs.

LAYOUT:

-Layout has been tweaked to suit my preferences. Game plays from left to right across board through the phases.

-Plenty of spare space close to the Players for storing/moving around characters as players see fit.

-Room for Player 5 and Player 6 mats if desired.

CORE CONTRIBUTORS
Nognoth
Contributed significant effort and time to the preceeding TTS mods of this game. I would've never known about KDM or the myriad of complexities of the game without his efforts.

maximo1984
Contributed significant effort and time to scanning an insane amount of images, as well as fully undertaking the daunting task of reorganizing the entirety of the deck images in the game and optimizing them.

Curnil
Assisted me heavily with scripting the character sheets, contributing some of the doodads you see on token stats and state changes.

pow.rogue
The monster modeler. May his efforts never cease and he finish the project of adding the rest....

TESTING

Dragonlord
Played through countless campaigns on a test version to identify all the problems and bugs. I still am not able to please all of his demands, but this is, by far, is a better mod due to his efforts.

Blaziruku for additional testing.

ASSETS
Some custom models and art are included in this mod; some of which I'm not sure where it came from to credit.
-Custom Ability cards fully fan-made by Orange.
-Custom Severe Injury cards fan-made by Leylos.
-Static objects from various on workshop: Skull, table extension, leather bags, pedestals, dice, tokens, candles.
-Style/fonts/layout of Char sheets and settlement sheets from BGG user: Sid.
-KDM 1.5 pieces from Nic.
-KDM Promo components from Rinion.
-Scripted Dice Rollers by MrStump.

The KDM Consultants
-Nog for being insanely obsessive.
-Sand for excellent insight and knowledge on the KDM mechanics prior to me even playing it.
-Dark for whimsical self deprecating humor and breaking things.
-pow.rogue for patience with drunken political conversations.
-Nic for never ending criticisms.

ISSUES

DISCLAIMER
Frankly, I made this thing for my friends and I. I only place it up on the workshop so others can enjoy. If your preferences differ from mine, then fix it and make your own version.

That said, if you run into an issue that breaks the game -- scripting or otherwise, check here for common issues. If it is not listed, let me know.

COMMON ISSUES

1) Placing Monster Trophy on scripted pad results in error: "already in hunt/showdown".
Delete all components that normally spawn from scripted setup (monster hunt cards, monster figure, monster AI, HL, and basic action, monster resource). Ensure the terrain card deck is put back together and the basic hunt deck is put back together. Activate the Admin console by clicking the button to the near of the table. Hit Reset Script Variables button. Follow printed instructions --> save game, load game. Try again.

2) Auto Deck Refresh is placing cards floating on top of the decks and not combining.
When using the search feature to search these decks, unfortunately the TTS engine does not add cards when they collide. Close the search window and pick up the card(s) laying on top and drop them again to force them to combine with the deck. Reshuffle as needed.

3) A guest in server is seeing the scripted char sheets display on another object (such as dice).
This one defies all logic for me. It doesn't happen often -- for host, try saving/loading. Maybe restart game/server. Might be memory related.

4) I have a Mac and can't see things/things are broken/memory errors/etc etc etc.
Solution: Play PC games on an actual computer.

5) I deleted an essential component -- how do I fix it, I don't want to restart my campaign?
Be more careful. Import from a fresh workshop version.

6) Workshop mod is updated, how do I keep playing my current campaign on the new version?
Go through the painstaking process of migrating your char sheets/gear etc to the new board.

7) Error is printing saying the game is missing a component.
Check for that component in the relevant box/bag. Check for any naming issues. If you haven't messed with it (not your fault), then let me know what component it was -- there may be a naming error.

Ok will, do. Thanks for the help!

I think there's a model object on the rightside of the settlement board with the gear decks; If there's broken links, or other issues that might be stopping this, then I do recommend looking at Arbie's 1.5 mod since it is an updated and improved iteration from this mod.

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but when putting down new settlements the gear decks for the corresponding settlements aren't appearing, where can they be found? Thank you!
Eskander  [author] Dec 4, 2020 @ 6:25pm
It was either a second page through changing the state of the object (hit 1 or 2 over the object or right click and hit change state); or try flipping it over (f key); I really don't remember much about this mod; of note, though, this mod is mostly deprecated -- it has been replaced largely by some other versions. If nothing else, take a look at Arbie's community 1.5 mod as it is mostly a direct fork off this version -- they updated it to 1.5 game rules and I think some folks chipped in to increase stability and add a few features.

can someone help me? I can't find the second page of the settlement sheet. There's the cover page where you write the name of the settlement and the players' names and the first page where you record quarries, years and things like that but I don't see the second page where you can keep track of the settlement's population anywhere. Is it in the mod or should I just keep track of them by hand?

@tinnesaile After the player performs his actions, he must turn the marker with the flashlight to symbolize that he has already performed his act.

This is very useful since the acts are not in order ...

Hey what is the purpose of the colored lantern tokens?
