Tiger from H1 to Tiger II Sla. 16
โดย B. Lamp
The goal of my guide is to give some insight on how to play the Tiger tanks and her variants, where to shoot them, what crew skills and modifications to get first and so forth! I will not update this post any further as I have stopped playing War Thunder

Introduction
Introduction

What I will be going through in this guide is the Tiger I H1, Tiger I E, Heavy Tank No. 6
Tiger II (P), Tiger II (H) , Tiger II Sla. 16 and eventually the Tiger II (H) 105

Sources

I will be getting my sources from personal experience, various wikipedias and the War Thunder forums.

Tiger (H1, E and the Heavy Tank No. 6)
The Tiger I

This tank will be your stepping stone to the German heavy tanks, it's the first 88 mm gun in the German heavy line

Tiger H1

Introduction to the Tiger I

This is the first Tiger tank you will get unless you bought one of the premium tanks.

I'm gonna be going over the thickness of the armor plates, not the effective armor as that's the penetration values shown on the Shell types, I might go over this at a later date

The tank has a crew of 5 people
Commander, gunner, loader, driver and machine gunner/radio operator

It carries 91 + 1 in the breech 88 mm KwK36 shells

First shell you get is the Panzergranate 39 which has 108.8 grams of TNT equivalent explosive filler.
Travelling at the speed of 773 m/s with a weight of 10 kg, it has 162 mm of penetration at 100 metres, you will be more than capable of one-shotting most tanks you can penetrate.
Shell stats will be shown right below this
Note in case of uptier make sure you carry some PzGr 39

Regular Panzergranate, the unlockable one has a muzzle velocity of 810 m/s.
Projectile mass is 9.5 kg with 150 g of TNT filler
Fuse delay and sensitivity is 0.8 metre delay with a 28 mm fuse.
Penetration values at differing metres

The engine power is lack luster for the 57 ton tank, even though it goes 45 km/h with an amazing gun, at least in my experience.

The shell I recommend using the most is the Panzer Granate, not the 39 as that has 60 grams less filler.

Tiger E
Now I personally do not have this vehicle, I got past it before it was introduced however I will give the information I have gathered of it.

It is a Tiger H1 with a better engine, better turret front as well, and it also gets the Panzer Granate 40

You never want to use the PzGr 40 however you should bring a few in case you can't penetrate something.

The turret is signifficantly tougher, it gets an MG34 on the top of the turret for SPAA and shooting at planes, carries the same ammo load as the H1, however it gets Simmerit pain I believe it's called, the base thickness is the same everywhere

I'm gonna quickly go over the Heavy Tank No.6
It's a Tiger E at a battle rating of 5.7 without the APCR of the Tiger E
However in personal experience I've had a lot of luck driving the Heavy Tank Number 6,
Tiger 2 P
Tiger II P

So what's so special about the Tiger II P that warrants its own section in my guide?
Well it's a completely different tank from the Tiger II H in some ways, personally I find the turret stronger, you can but not guaranteed bounce shells off the front of your turret, however the shell trap on the front of the turret will get you killed more than once.
With that shell trap one of 3 things will happen, 1. It bounces harmlessly off the top.
2. It bounces into the hull and knocks you out.
3. It goes straight through the gun mantle and will knock out half if not all the things in your turret

You want to get take 45 shells in total for the ammorack in the back of the turret to dissapear.

Parts I went for and think you should go for

  1. Parts
  2. Horizontal Turret Drive
  3. FPE
  4. Hl. Gr 39 or Adjustment of fire. Your choice
  5. Filter
  6. Crew replenishment
  7. Transmission
  8. Engine
  9. Then whatever you've got left

Experiment with the mixture of ammo you're taking, personally I only take the Pz Gr 39/43

Onto the ammo

Playstyle
The way I've seen many people play the Tiger IIs is by going hull down.
That is a very inefficient way of playing the things considering everything and their grandmother at your battle rating can go straight through your turret, I'll go over this later in the Tiger II H variants. However what you want to do is stay in ambush, wait for a target and kill it, or if you'd like you can go brawling as at that range you will be able to penetrate everything apart from a few tanks. Do keep in mind they can penetrate you just as easily.
If you insist on playing this tank hull-down get a friend or two into a custom battle and learn the limits of the turret
Tiger 2 H and Sla. 16
Introduction to the Tiger II H

It's a tier 4, 6.7 battle rating German Heavy tank, equipped with an 88 mm KwK43
With 77 shells in the tank

You want to get take 45 shells in total for the ammorack in the back of the turret to dissapear.
I used the same image for the ammo rack on the II H as on the II P as they have the same ammo layout and internal module layout

Tiger II H Sla. 16

This section is going to be a bit short as you should just take it as a regular Tiger II H with a better engine.
However the differences are as follows:

Tiger II H Sla. 16
Tiger II H
750 hp
700 hp
2x Mg 34
1x Mg 34

As you can see those are not signifficant apart from the horse power which can save you.

All the weaknesses of the Tiger II H are still valid.
Those being turret face as most tier IV tank armament goes straight through it, side armor and the relatively low mobility against other nations tanks.

However your frontal hull armor and your long 88 mm KwK43 can and will save you many a time.
The gun is accurate, consistently does great damage to anything you penetrate.
If your aim is good enough you will consistently hit and penetrate above 1000 metres.

Maybe I'm missing something but the Tiger H1 Normal Panzergranate has 285.6g TNT filler, not 150, otherwise though great guide.

you can actually take 55 rounds for the Tiger II's since the turret ammo rack carries 20 shells.

PanzerDivisiOn I beg to differ, whenever I play my Tiger 1s I get downtiered and the regular Panzer Granate is way better in my experience
Shōgun - Usami Fuji 6 พ.ค. 2017 @ 7: 15am
Teitr28 as a "everyday tiger H player" you should take Panzergranate 39 then Regular Panzergranate. As gayjin uptier tiger like 8 time out of 10 having a better pen is alway better and the Panzergranate 39 HE fitler does not do much as you can one-shot (or 2) anything at your Battle rating with your Panzergranate 39. Btw the Regular Panzergranate is from the flak 88 TD :)

So In Both Tiger LOAD only Panzergranate 39 ! Regular Panzergranate is shit DO NOT EVER USE IT

wait nvm it says in the german heavy line...

Mystique, this guide has got nothing to do with the Maus or any of her sister tanks, this is solely about the Tiger tanks and their variants, however I haven't gotten around to doing the guide about the Tiger 1 Porsche
