RNW Tile: Middle Earth

In 1 collection by Elzephor
RNW Large Tile Collection
9 items
Description
This mod adds a huge new tile to the RNW, modeled off of this map[i.stack.imgur.com] of JRR Tolkien's Middle Earth! Provinces in the areas covered in Lord of the Rings have lore-accurate province names, so you can explore and colonize all your favorite places from Tolkien's universe!

In addition to the regions covered in Lord of the Rings, the tile includes complex archipelagos, vast grasslands, tundras, savannas, and jungles. It encompasses the whole RNW area, giving you a true continent to discover!

This is the normal version. It will only spawn occasionally. To have it spawn every time, use the Demo Version instead.

Always spawns in the same orientation.

Specs

- 844 Land provinces
- 125 Sea provinces
- 40 Lake provinces
- 20 Wasteland provinces
- 16 Regions
- 148 Province names from LOTR
- 18 Important Natural Harbors
- 13 Important River Estuaries
- 9 Inland Centers of Trade
- Comes with its own climate settings

FAQ/INB4/HELP

Q: How do I use this?? When I open the game it doesn't show up!
A: Read the description: this is a random new world tile. That means you have to generate the random new world for it to appear. The random new world requires the Conquest of Paradise DLC to work, so this mod requires it as well. If you are running the normal version, you might not have it generate right away. Try a few more times and it will show up eventually. With the DEMO version, it will show up on every generation.

Q: I can't see the New World in the menu! It's all Terra Incognita!
A: In the single player menu (the menu after the main menu, but before you truly enter the game) click on the options tab, and set "terra incognita in lobby" to "no." You will then be able to see the random new world.

Q: Why is xyz not a desert/forest/grassland/etc?? It should be some other terrain type!
A: I can't control terrain types with that degree of accuracy. I've tried my best to tweak the climate settings enough to get something that approaches Tolkien's world, but there's only so much I can do. So Mirkwood will be drylands, and we'll just have to live with that.

Q: Why is this province too big? This area needs more/less provinces!
A: There is a strict limit on how many provinces a RNW tile can have, and this one meets that limit exactly. That means that if I add a new province, I have to get rid of another one. And that means combining provinces together. I've tried to strike the best balance I can with what I have to work with.

Q: Why are the colonial regions not named LOTR-accurate names?
A: The generator picks the name of provinces at random to stand as the name for each region. Because its random I can't control what region gets what name.

Q: Can you add in Gondor/Rohan/Mordor/etc as countries in their proper locations?
A: No, I can't. I could make it so that those countries were created, but they would be randomly distributed across the tile, which would be absurd.

Q: This map is wildly innacurate! You should use this map instead, it fits with the lore better!
A: My goal here isn't to create a 100% lore-accurate map, it's to make a cool RNW tile. I used this map[i.stack.imgur.com] as a base because it was the most detailed and interesting looking version of Middle Earth I could find. I'm not about to go totally redo the tile because there are other versions that are closer to the lore.

Requirements and Comptatibilities

- Requires the Conquest of Paradise DLC
- Should work with any other tile mod.
- Compatible with Random New World Improvements - BUT - the climate settings used with this mod will override the climate settings in Random New World Improvements. This means you will still get large deserts, whether or not you are actually playing with this tile.

Credits

Much of the map from LOTR was adapted from the CK2 Middle Earth Project and DKStranger's Lord of the Universalis mod.
Province names were sourced from my own copies of LOTR, as well as other maps from around the web.

why didnt you just delete the rest of the world and add the middle earth, and/or add the undying lands?

Is there a way we can put this map instead of America but not as RNW? That would allow us to spawn countries wherever we want.

you had a typo with Dol Guldur, you spelled it as dur goldur. Couple other typos and also why is mirkwood a dry land??? why is fangorn not a forest??? Why is dagorlad not a marsh? Some things could be worked on. Also high pass is in the wrong place... works pretty smooth though.

Got some music mods you all might enjoy! They work regardless of game version and are not dependent on each other: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1507647498
