Grillby (Undertale)

Grillby is a fire monster, and owner and proprietor of Grillby's. He is a silent character, and doesn't speak up unless he finds it necessary. His best customer is Sans, who visits the bar daily and even owns a tab.

This character was a difficult one. The fire wasn't easy to make, let alone try and get it to 'work' in the Source engine the way it did. Despite ending up way off from my original iterations, I think this worked out as best as it could. The fire texture is animated, so that it scrolls across the main mesh. It also uses an "onion layer" mesh, placed on top of the original and given a gradient effect so that the base of the fire stays hot white and gradually becomes redder towards the top. I've learned many new cool tricks from making this character and I consider this a great learning experience overall.
