How to play the panther D

In this guide, i'll be showing you how to play the panther D, along with its pros and cons, what to do and what not to do, including fighting enemies of different nations.

Introduction
Now, all of you may be wondering "Why do i have to play the panther D? it sucks!"

...

If you arent playing it correctly because it is labeled "Medium tank".

In reality, its not; mainly due to the poor turret rotation that a hamplanet on a moped can drive laps around the panther D while the turret turns.
A brief history lesson
The panther tank was concieved in 1938 to replace the aging panzer III and IV tanks, which were becoming slowly obsolete as time went on (but they both recieved upgrades, but the panzer III was hopelessly obsolete by '43 and the IV was aging, too.) And then the T-34's rolled out, and the Panzerkampfwagen V tank, or the "Panther" protoype was based off the T-34. One model, made by Daimler-Benz looked like a complete copy of the T-34 tank, hull shape and turret, and the one made by MAN, or Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG, which looked competely different. The MAN prototype was chosen over the DB prototype due to the ridiculous similarities between the T-34 and DM's prototype, which could lead to plenty of friendly fires. After the panther was hurriedly rushed off the production lines with many mechanical problems lingering, heavy losses were suffered, especially at kursk, the panther's first battle. It was a good tank, but the mechanical issues contributed to most of the losses. But as the war dragged on, 2 more models were made, A and G, A solving most of the mechanical issues the original had and the G with an "upgraded" turret (removing the shot trap and improving side armor in general). It is considered, by many historians as the best tank of WW2.

But that wont stop gaijin from pitting it against Post-WW2 tanks because of their ♥♥♥♥ BR system and matchmaking.
How to play
Now that you have this tank, instead of rushing and killing everything (Like the filthy wehraboo you are), you should try to snipe and be more of a Tank Destroyer than anything. You cant be a proper medium tank with that crappy turret rotation!

Now, flanking, sniping, and ambushing are the best things you can do, and since your gun has excellent performance, (better than the tiger H1), use that to your advantage. Snipe from far away, dont show your sides or rear, and just support your team (while your friendly tigers steamroll the opposition if they know how to play)

Emphasis on the reverse speed.... A WW1 tank can go faster than this. 'Nuff said. Aside from that, that is why you dont charge into a enemy spawn in this thing, because your "totally OP" side armor can eat shells (and ♥♥♥♥ them into your comparments and kill everyone inside), rear armor being the same, then you got the turret traverse which is so bad a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ maus will go circles around you while laughing at you. And the entire enemy team is spawning in to blast your ass back to the big bang where you will be annihilated by a KV-2 firing its "Dawn of Time" shell which forces you into a singularity and violently explodes creating the universe you were once in.

And dont do anything stupid.
Ammunition
Since this tank only gets 2 types of ammo, (You probably wont need APCR at 5.7, because your gun pens 187mm of armor at point blank range.) You should load mostly Pz.Gr. 39 and drop the HE completely (unless you are looking to make SPAA very sad.)

Pz.Gr. 39 : Your bread and butter. you'll be using this mostly, and it has good performance at every range, enough to pen a IS-2's turret even at 2 kilometers (but it has trolly turret, so expect bouncing).

HE : Practically useless because the shell is not very big. you can try using it.

I'd take 35 max, but you can take more/less if needed.
Enemies worth noting
Capitalist pig-dogs
M4A2 Sherman: Weak. shoot him anywhere you please. He can pen your side easily.
M4A1 (76) W: gun is strong enough to defeat your turret armor, but not your UFP or LFP. Shoot him anywhere and he will die.
M4A2 (76) W: Same goes with M4A1 (76) W, but dont shoot the turret armor because the 89mm of armor has another 89mm of armor behind the mantlet.
M4A3 (76) W HVSS: Same deal as the other 76mm shermans, but it can carry APCR and is better in terms of mobility than the other 2. Dont underestimate.
M4A3E2: Standard jumbo. Pretty much impervious to your gun. Try to flank it. It can carry APCR.
M4A3E2 (76) W: Horribly overtiered, poor guy. but like the M4A3 (76) W HVSS, it can also carry APCR. Try not to engage in a head-on attack.
M6A1: More of a liabiliy than anything. but shoot the hull cheeks. Just becareful with how many crew he has inside.
M19: When he flanks you, game over. spray him with your MG, hit the boxes around his "turret" with AP, or falcon punch him with HE.
M24 Chaffee: A very good light tank, but not for the likes of you. He can pen your side, so be careful about flanking chaffees.
T20: A prototype pershing. Shoot anywhere you please. (treat it like a better sherman)
T25: The final stage of the prototype pershing, treat it like a weaker pershing. Its gun can and will 1 shot you. armor is pathetic, however.
M26: The pershing. fast, powerful, deadly. too bad the armor is crap. Shoot it anywhere you please. (or shoot the turret mantlet)
M41A1 Walker Bulldog: Prepare ur anus. Fast, Light, deadly. enjoy APDS up your ass. But you can kill it in 1 shot anyways.
T92: Uh... its a special one. Shoot it anywhere you please.
T29: "fair and balanced". Try to flank it. or die trying.
T95: "I am invincible!" Try shooting his cupolas. but dont get in front of him.
M18: Trolololololololo! Shoot him anywhere, you should be able to heavily damage him.
M36: Armor is thick enough for your shell to explode after pen. carries same gun as the pershing, so be careful.
T26E1-1 Super Pershing: The patriot. dont bother fighting it from the front, its gun is comparable to a KT's and armor much superior to the likes of you.
M26E1 Super Pershing: Basically a pershing with a smaller super pershing gun (Same performance, but the T54 90mm gun reloads faster)
M42 Duster: Same tactic as the M19.
M18 Hellcat: Its already at your rear when you leave spawn. Shoot it at the driver area with AP, it should deal fatal damage, just like NASCAR/INDYCAR/F1/24 Heures Le Mans crashes.
M18 SUPER HELLCAT: a M18. With a M36 Jackson turret glued on it. No literal performance difference from the M18 aside from Nuke shell and longer reload time. (and crappier optics due to new update) (I THINK)
M36: horribly uptiered (really gayjin why is this piece of ♥♥♥♥ at 6.3) Shoot anywhere, armor is thick enough to detonate your shell inside the tank.

Commies and gaijin supporters
T-34-57: The gun can pen your turret front and your sides and rear, but you should be able to overcome the armor with little difficulty (thank you armor overmatch)
T-34-85 D-5T: A dangerous opponnent, can pen your hull front reliably. Armor is very weak, so take advantage. Or shoot the turret ring. avoid shooting the driver's hatch.
T-34-85: Same tactic as the D-5T, but the gun can load APCR and has 1 extra crew. Still dies easily.
T-44: a truly dangerous opponnent, Try shooting the turret.
IS-1: Tough armor. shoot turret or lower glacis. Or the hull cheeks if he is angled.
IS-2: Same tactic as the IS-1, just dont get in its sights.
KV-2: STALIN'S ANTI-MATTER PHOTON FUSION PULSE CANNON, dont get shot by it or you die. armor is susceptible to your gun
KV-85: Think of it as a weaker IS-1 :)
SU-85: Weak, but the gun can defeat you.
SU-85M: Updgraded armor, but not enough to withstand a hit.
SU-152: a anti-tank 152mm gun. Just like the KV-2, but reloads faster and can pen your UFP.
ISU-152: Same thing as the SU-152.
KV-122: Same tactic as KV-85, but take caution because it has the IS-2's gun.
PT-76: Annoying. shoot it anywhere you please.
ZSU-37: trolololo, shoot it anwhere.
IS-2 1944 mod: Danger! Danger! Lower glacis, turret cheeks, side armor, hull cheeks, but dont go toe-to-toe.
SU-100Y: Stalin's Box of Doom. Pen comparable to a tiger 2's main gun, but with even more HE filling (NEVER CAN GET ENOUGH CHOOCOLATE FILLING) (of doom). Armor is so bad that even a flakpanzer 1 can pen it! Shoot this thing anywhere you please.
KV-220: Sealclubber. Gayjin y u no raise BR on this piece of ♥♥♥♥ tank that does not know balance

Tea Drinkers
Comet: Britain's first tank that could go toe-to-toe with the panther. Armor is weak, but it has APDS.
Centurion mk 3: Autoloader gun! Yay! Shoot lower glacis.
Carnaeveron: Lower glacis.
Tortoise: Cupola, or shoot its gun continously.
Challenger: a failiure of a tank, shot it anywhere.
Firefly: Armor of a Br 3.7 tank, so shoot it anywhere you please. Dont underestimate, it packs a punch.
Avenger: A challenger that has less armor.
Crusader AA mk 1: Same tactic with M19.

GLORIOUS GERMAN MASTER RACE
Panther D: Its you! shoot yourself anywhere!
Panther A: Better than you in every way! Shoot cupola, turret or UFP!
Panther G: Same tactic as panther A!
Panther F: Why are the A, G, and F at the same BR??? shoot the turret front!
Tiger H1: if it shoots you, you die! shoot cupola or the UFP and LFP!
Tiger E: cupola and lower glacis arent even options now! Turret front or UFP!
Hetzer: Lower glacis.
Panzer 4 H: anywhere
Stug G: Anywhere
Nashorn: HE or AP in the right place. tiger 2 gun at 5.3
Jagdpanzer 4: Anywhere, really.
Pz/IV. 70: A up-armored jagdpanzer 4 with a panther gun. Shoot it anywhere but dont get shot at.
Dicker max: it can use COLLAPSING STAR, ROARING CANNON! (or the unlockable shell). Shoot it anywhere.
Stuer Emil: A upgraded dicker max. Dont get shot at. because maus gun at 6.0 is totally fair ))))))
Jagdpanther: MG port, the gun itself, UFP or LFP.
Ferdinand: lol rip (try the hull cheeks)
Ostwind: shoot it anywhere. but it can kill you fast if it flanks.
Tiger 2 (P) Turret is a good pick. But you should shoot first, lest he kill you.
Tiger 2 (H) You pretty much stand no chance. try shooting his side.
Panther 2: A upgraded Panther F. turret front is always a good choice
Pros and Cons
Pros:
  • Its has good armor, better than the Tiger H1's
  • A gun superior to most tanks in 5.7, save the nashorn's
  • Good mobility
  • Faster than the T-34-85
  • nigh invincible at a longer range
Cons:
  • Poor turret armor
  • very little ammo choice
  • VERY bad turret rotation
  • non-existent reverse speed
  • Side armor is pretty bad
  • must be forced to play as a TD most of the time

Guide to playing the Panther D:
Don't. Play the Tiger H1 instead. Same BR but better armour, better turret traverse, better reactive mobility and better post-pen damage.

I disagreed with this guide. when i started on this tank, i followed this guide and played like a TD. but when i got tired of getting destroyed by actual TD's and moved to be a medium tank, everything went much better. my good matches are like 6-1

SUN this guide aint bullshit because u can pen the kv2 where the turret ring lies and u can pen the turret sides and read and pen the sides of the main chassis and light the tank on fire in the process because the kv chassis housed its fuel tanks on the sides.
