An unsuccessful heavy tank produced in 1942 is worth in War Thunder? well, let's see! Here you can found the history , the advantages and disadvantages and if it's worth to buy it.

1. History

The VK 45.01 (p) commonly knows as the tiger porsche (or tiger (p) ) was a prototype of an heavy tank build in 1942.

This tank used two Porsche Type 101/1 engine both mounted to the rear of the tank.
Each of the engines had a separate generator ,which would power each of the two eletric motors one for each track.

Because the tank engines and transmission were very prone to break down or catch fire because of the quality of the copper avaliable to the Third Reich , was the reason why the Henschel vk 45.01 (H) (the famous tiger 1) was adopted for the production.

The tiger porsche chassis was chosen to be the basis of the ferdinand tank destroyed.

Only one tiger porsche were used in war as a command tank.

The tank used the 88 mm KwK L/56 based of the 88mm flak gun.

2. In War Thunder...

In War thunder the Tiger (p) is a rank 4 premium tank with a battle rank of 6.0 which can be buy for 6090 golden eagles (~32 € , ~28 £ , ~36 $ ).

It have only the standard camouflage.

It can carry max 80 bullet , here the list:

It was released in update 1.45 (American ground vehicles).

3. Advantages

• Incredible reverse speed (up to 30 Km/h).
  
  
• Strong frontal armor of 200mm.
  
  
• Trasmission is mounted in the rear of the tank so it's more difficult to catch a fire.
  
  
• Very accurate gun that gives you a very advantage in long range engagements.
  
  
• Pretty good hull traverse speed.
  
  
• Very good gun depression and good elevation
  
  

4. Disadvantages

• Good frontal armor but with lots and pretty large weak points and not impossible to penetrate for british and american guns.
  
  
• Huge and low armored sides.
  
  
• Poor penetration , that gives you lots of problem againts 6.3 tanks.
  
  
• Average top speed.
  
  
• Turret traverse is slower than the Tiger H1 and E.
  
  
• High battle rank , that's mean you can easly found enemy like Tiger 2 (p) , Jagdphanter , T44-122.... which can easly penetrate your frontal armor.

5.1 Gameplay: When you are the Tiger (p)...

When you are the Tiger you have to remember that you have a good armor but you are not immortal.

First thing you have to do it's find a good place where you can cover your weak spots.

Rocks or house are good for you, for example:


Here the enemy can't hit your hull weak spots and you can use better your frontal armor against american and british shells.
Remember that you have still a weak spots on the turret so be careful when coming out to shoot.

That's if you found a good match for you (max br 6.0) if you are versus 6.3 tanks it's better for you to play as an assist tank.
Don't rush in face of enemy and stay behind your most powerful allies, shoot only when you are sure to not be hitted and use your very good reverse speed and your gun depression to hit your enemy without being hit.

DON'T use your sides armor or don't count on it, an hit on your sides mean almost all the times dead so be careful about the minimap when you are in position or when you are placeing yourself.

Sidescreep it's useless too in this tank.

You have a good rate of fire and a good accuracy so try to aim at the weak points of the enemy tank (because probably you don't have enough penetration to hit him everywhere).

About the ammo... use most PzGr 39 ( i reccomend max 20 ) :

Take if you want a couple of HE shells too:



but don't use HEAT shells, they are simply useless.

5.2 When you are versus a Tiger (p)...

In 6.0 tank battles is not quite common meet a tiger (p) because is a strange tank....
But the majority of the war thunder players don't know how to knock out a tiger (p),here the weak point list:

• Commanders hatch,in this point (with a small gun like 85mm gun) you can easily kill the commander and the gunner,if you use a large weapon like 122mm or 152mm you can kill all turret members and you can hit the ammunition or the fuel tanks;
  
  
• In the lower plate of the frontal armor under the pilots optics,shoot here only with good guns like the 122mm gun or you can shoot here with composite or APCR shells.If you shoot here you can knock out the pilot and the machinegunner,if you are lucky you can destroy the ammo (35% of chance);
  
  
• Frontal armor in left and right corners,in this points you can easily destroy the ammunitions but if your enemy load a low quantity you must shoot at your left (the tiger (p) right);
  
  
• At cannon left side (your right),shoot here and you can kill all turret members and if you are lucky you can destroy the armor (15% of chance).
  Is not a difficult target but kill him before he can find a good position.Is an hard enemy for russian and german tanks but american and british tanks can penetrate quite easily the weak points.

6. Crew

Try to level up most your gunner skills to improve your already excellent accuracy.

Another good thing is to improve your crew repair skill and agility because your turret is a very good target for enemy.

Upgrade reload speed on the loader to maximise your damage and your driver tank driveing skill to be a little bit faster.

Anyway you can level up other skill too cause the last two are not a priority.

7. Summary

The Tiger porsche is a good heavy tank for who want a slow and thoughtful gameplay.

The good combination of the accuracy, rate of fire and frontal armor allow him to do 1 vs 1 easly againt same tier tanks but the low penetration value and the high number of weak spots in a higher battle rank make him only a pretty good tank

The bonus which gives thanks to the fact that is a premium tank (356% research 200% silver lions) will help you with research and allows you to get a lots of money!

nop, on war thunder is the ferdinand because it don't have the machine gun , the elephant is the version of the ferdinand with the mg 34 in the front of the hull , took this "nickname" because it was horrible versus infantry :)

in game this is called Panzerkampfwagen VI (P) , we named it Tiger p to shorten a little bit the guide , the vk 4501 (p) (or kitty tiger / kitty p like you call it) it's the prototype of the tiger porsche (like the vk 4501 (h) for the tiger H1 and e ) and it wasn't used in war , the tiger porscche porsche like i wrote was used in only one model as a command tank and all the hull were used to create the Ferdinad tank destroyer
