Rule Through the Ages

Lead your empire without spending time in all of them micromanagement.

TLDR: Large changes to the game with the goal of allowing you to make interesting decisions ruling your empire in a game that will be much faster to play than Civ 5.

Game set up options:
No action diplmacy screens as notifications: Diplomacy screens that have just one button are notifications. Defaults to true.
Player Controls Units: Allows the player to control their own units. Defaults to false.
Show detailed tile info: Shows detailed information in the info panel for a tile like exact culture and religious pressure. Defaults to false.
No notifications about units. Defaults to true.
No notifications about starvation. Defaults to false.

Population, culture, and religion are tracked on a per tile basis and your people will automatically found cities when enough of them have gathered in a single tile. Cities production has been simplified to processes which convert production (citizen thought) into culture, faith, and research. More efficient productions choices are unlocked through the tech tree. Your culture will spread automatically bringing new lands under your control.

The tech tree has been overhauled and now conains 256 technologies, many of them new. In addition to the technologies you pick to research, your citizens will discover technologies automatically based on the focus of your civilization. If your people are farmers they'll discover technolgies like Irrigation and Fertilization, if they are traders they will discover Banking and Corporations. Trade units now spread your culture and religion to the land along their path making trade more important than ever.

There are fewer military units, but they improve automatically through technologies like Sword, Pike, Advanced Ballistics, and Laser Gun. Military units move automatically. There are no workers to manage since tile improvements are automatically built for you.

Civilization bonuses, religious beliefs, and social policies have all been updated as well.

It's a great idea for a mod and besides some of the frustrating aspects that can be worked around by practice, it'd be fun, if it worked.

I can get 100 or so turns into the game and then it just crashes and cannot be loaded again, incredibly frustrating for a mod that boasts a quicker play time than normal Civ with new and interesting mechanics, it certainly is quicker I suppose, because you can only play half a game.

Use to play this mod a lot years ago.. but last time i used it it crashed... ok.. then this caused a game breaking corruption that caused my game to crash on startup every time... Verifying files, uninstalling and reinstalling, even a disk check wouldnt fix the problem. Deleted saves and anything mentioning the mod from the game files didnt work either. Finally deleting the entire Cache folder fixed the problem...

love this mod but once you launch this mod and exit the game you now have to delete the cache folder to be able to play again I dont know why this is.

I'd love this if it didn't require brave new world.

Personally like the mod as it more accurately simulates revolutions and change in stateship, keep up with the good work. Though I don't really the policy tree I think it would have been better to keep the original policies but just change the effect. Or maybe a system with more ideologies throughout the eras, but ive heard modding in ideologies is hard. Good mod.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. There are some tutorial popups to explain (most of?) the new mechanics in the game. You might need to change your tutorial settings to see them.

The AI by default controls your units. There are generals that allow you to give some orders which the AI will then attempt to carry out (in addition to the actions it was already trying to take). There is also a pre-game setup option "Player Controls Units" which allows you to control your units as normal.

The main way to get units is by purchasing them. There are a few other ways it can happen, but in most games nearly all of your units will be purchased.

why can't my defense warriors perform ranged attacks while barbarians can? Why are the only commands possible automate or attack? Why can't I tell them to go back to city? SO many questions. For now only a miserable experience unless I can get some explanation. How can i get military units other than purchasing? Why isn't there a simple tutorial?

Sorry for responding late. The problem is it seems like that just some things cause it at random times. I'll just try reinstalling it maybe that will fix it.

@Kaiser Wilhelm II

I'm sorry you're running into crashes. What version are you using? The latest update (v9) fixed a crash bug.

To help me fix the problem, it'd be helpful if you could send me some files at rulethroughtheages AT chrisjohn DOT digital. In your Civilization directory there should be some .mdmp files. If you could send those to me I can try to figure out what is causing the problem. If you have a save file before a crash I can also try to load that to reproduce the problem.

@JonnyH13 (part 3)

In case you didn't know, enemy units in a tile will kill some population. So if you have towns everywhere and are having problems with starvation, it sounds like you are doing a good job defending your borders. You might find it more challenging to play on a harder difficulty level.
