Offering my own Quake config as template - feel free to use it as example/guide into realm of CVars.

Few things that I should mention:

1) I play on 75hz refresh rate (My screen supports 120hz, so make sure you check your monitor for max. possible refresh rate) alter graphics in .cfg file until you have stable FPS count

2) X, Y & Z axis has been altered by me, therefore either set them on default or use cg_drawgun 0 - that will hide weapon model and altered axis will not affect sensetivity etc.

3) Ensure that your USB polling rate is 500Mhz for better mouse response, "new generation" of mices often have their own software to change USB polling rate - use it.
N.B. So far in Win 10 you can't change USB polling rate in same way it was possible in older versions of Windows - to use my MWO (Microsoft Wheel Optical Mouse) at it's full potential I'm still keeping Windows 7, also I noticed that in Win 10 Quake have tendency to crash due to Gfx card driver, there is as many variations of solving that as Quake players.

4) Most likely you will have to adjust Brightness & Contrast on your screen, I'm using my own setup along with Gfx settings in .cfg file.

This .cfg was built for better performance (less lag, better visibility of enemy etc), please keep that in mind.
